Played COTG years ago, and really enjoyed it. But the time restraints I have, I could never keep up with the books, feuds, etc. so I just played with the stuff i had. Just recently I purchased the LOW boxset and the additional wrestling cards, and want to start my own fed. Have a few questions Im hoping someone can answer for me. Thanks in advance.
Is there a set ranking system as far as determining #1 contenders?
What is the best way people have found to determine the first champions at the start of a fed? Thinking of a tournament, either single elimination style or some sort of round robin, but not sure if this is the best way to go.
Was on the web looking through all the LOW bootlegs etc, very cool stuff. Do these work well with the official cards, or are they more meant to be played as their own fed? Would like to mix maybe 20 or so bootleg guys in with the official guys, but dont want them to be overpowered or non-competitive.

I would say just look over the bootlegs you would like to use to make sure they're not too powerful based on what you want them to be. There's a lot of good stuff out there, along with some not so good stuff.
Often, the strength of the cards is influenced by what the bootlegger grew up watching (I still think Johnny Powers would have the only card where his entire offense was POWERLOCK (+6) - which might be slightly unreasonable).
Just look over the options, try to see if the bootlegs attempt to conform to the dreaded "card rules" - although some people aren't as picky about that as others. As long as they fit what you want to do, go for it.
As far as rankings go, I use a spreadsheet to keep track of W-L records and such, but only use it as a guide. My actual rankings are pretty subjective.

We've been using good bootlegs with the official cards for some time over in the LWA... as Tim said, the main thing is that the cards are of a relative strength that you're comfortable with... there are some guys that have 5 or 6 different cards out there. If you want to check it out, here's our board for the results and such: legendsboard44.proboards101.com/index.cgiI've tried tons of different ranking systems, from the massively scientific to the very simple.. all work to some extent, and have flaws to some extent... I've always been happiest in my own feds by doing it how the do in it real wrestling... by 'feel' and story. The one we're currently using is as follows: You get points for wins:
2 for a win on a local card 4 for a win at a LWA event 6 for a win at a LWA PPV 10 for a win in a LWA Title match
In addition: +1 for wins in a special match, or for a secondary local title +2 for wins for a primary local title +1 to all wins over talent from another terrtitory Points are halved for DQ finishes (1/2s always rounded up) -10 for losing a match for a LWA title -5 for being inactive for the month (only applies if wrestler would be ranked)
(Note: All Title Bonuses will only be given once a week)
All the numbers are even so there's no fractions
The points a guy accumulated will be divided by the # of losses they have to get their rating #... My hope is that will offset the benefit of playing alot.
I've also decided the distinction between 'local' house shows and local tv is too fine to bother with.
The -10 for losing a title match is to cycle people more, so the top guys don't live on top.
Ranking will be once a month now...
Rankings are calculated using the last three months of stats, as well as a wrestlers career rating.... each of these 4 elements are given equal weight in coming up with a 'cumulative score' for the wrestler.
Anyone wrestling less than 3 times in a month will have that month's rating calculated as if they wrestled three times (To prevent guys being protected)
I've also used ELO ratings before (like alot of online game sites use... things like Pogo or Yahoo games)... they give you good results, but are kinda math-heavy.

Thank you all for the great tips, will start my fed(s) this weekend. Just ordereded the updated charts, so will have to start out with the old charts. Using the Rahl ratings to help divide the guys up initially into feds, along with personal relationships, feuds etc. Thanks again for all the help. The ranking formula looks pretty self explanatory, which I like. The less paperwork/math for me the better. Hopefully I will have my newbie fed posted on here once i get it rolling..

Welcome aboard King!
You will find that LOW is an amazing game and very fun. And folks within the LOW ranks are very obliging to help a new fellah out. Cannot wait to see your fed results.

Started my fed recently on Brew City Wrestling post. Going pretty good, having fun so far. Decided to just start with the original boxset, and then decided to mix in Duggan and Sabu out of the 2nd set in. I bought all the sets at one time, but want to mix the other guys in as I go. Do people generally mix whole sets in at one time, have "contract" matches to get them into the fed, or just gradually mix them in with story angles? Gonna bring The Crusher in ASAP also, since it is Brew City Wrestling , and need to bring a few more hardcore guys to compete for the Xtreme Championship, but other than that not sure yet

Well, when I first started playing Legends, Hardcore had just come out, so I bought all three at once. I picked my favorites from those sets as my core roster. Since then I've gradually added wrestlers for the new sets as it goes.

I think most people pick the guys they're most interesting in using.... it's not like GWF where there's a timeline and official angles and such.
