(Note: Some of these quotes might not be completely verbatim since I wasn't actually recording the show, but if not then they're all pretty close)
Here is my personal review about PWG's Speed of Sound show that I attended last night while sitting once again in a front row seat:
Before the Show: There definitely wasn't as many people here this night (my guess is about 300) compared to last month's PWG show Threemendous II (I heard about 500 attended that show- and I forgot to check to see if Smashing Pumpkin's Billy Corgan was in attendance like he was last month with us at PWG's Threemendous II.)
Excalibur (PWG's masked commissioner who also does the lead commentary for their DVDs) got into the ring and talked about how at Threemendous II the fans showered the ring with cups and pitchers of beer. But then he said: "But that wasn't the problem. The problem was that this room is only about 80 feet wide and most of you couldn't even make it to the ring. Apparently PWG fans have arms like Tyrannosaurus Rex." Excalibur then went on to ask us not to throw all our beer in the ring once again (for the record, I didn't throw any of my beer in the ring last time- I drank it instead
).
I think some of the reasons for the lower turnout compared to Threemendous II was that Threemendous II was one of PWG's biggest cards of the year as their anniversary show and because many fans were instead looking to attend next week's Dragongate at PWG show.
First Match: Cutler Brothers defeated Brandon Gatson and Johnny GoodtimeSecond Match: Human Tornado defeated Shane Haste, Charles Mercury, and Jerome "LTP" Robinson in a Four-Way Match- Human Tornado pinned Haste for the victory.
- Joey Mercury got seriously cut up beneath his chin and he was gushing blood at the end of this match.
- If you buy this DVD, you'll probably see me walking past the ring right across from the camera at one point with my cell phone to my ear. Cman, who showe up late due to car trouble, called me during this match. But I really couldn't hear Cman because I was too close to the ring so I got up from my front row seat to move closer to the door so I could try and talk to him. I was really glad to see Cman got there for the next match!
Third Match: Scott Lost defeated Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana - Before this match, Cabana picked up a little kid at ringside who was one of his fans. Then Lost got on the microphone to say "Colt Cabana, you had no right to touch that little boy."
-As usual, Cabana was hilarious and performed a good match, but Lost won the match.
Fourth Match: PWG Tag Team Champions the Young Bucks defeated The Dynasty International (Joey Ryan and Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson) - This match was billed as a non-title match. But Joey Ryan goaded the Young Bucks (who are still heels even though they didn't get as bad a reaction as last time) into making this a title match. At first one of the Young Bucks (I think it was Matt Jackson) grabbed the microphone to ask "Is that what the PWG fans want, to see us put the title on the line tonight?" and then the fans were shouting yes he said "Definitely not." But then the Young Bucks agreed to make it a title match and they won when Ryan got pinned via MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.
- This match definitely wasn't as good as the match last month when the Young Bucks lost in a non-title match to 2 Skinny Black Guys, but it was still really a really good tag match IMO.
Intermission (10 minutes): Some things here I can't talk about until Filsinger Games announces it. But I did once again talk to Chris Hero who was working the PWG merchandise table. Since last night might be the last PWG show I can go to for awhile and because Chris Hero is my personal favorite LOTF wrestler, I wanted to buy one of his DVDs and Hero personally recommended to me a 2 disc set of his matches that is highlighted by a tables and ladders match against CM Punk from IWA Mid South back in 2002. Cman bought the same DVD set too.
- At intermission I also bought a Young Bucks t-shirt. But it took awhile to find one in my size because they mostly had large and bigger sizes and my size is medium.
- Afterward, I bought one $2 cup of Bud Light at the bar before returning to my seat in time for the second half of the show.
Fifth Match: Chuck Taylor defeated El Generico in a street fight match to claim the #1 contendership for the tag team championship. - Great match. At one point, the action went into the bathroom where El Generico apparently shoved Taylor's head into the toilet as Taylor came out drenched in water around his head.
- At one point Taylor smashed a garbage can hard against El Generico's head right in front of me as I was standing up (it was as close to me as my computer screen is to me as I type this up). I was standing up because just a few seconds earlier the action outside of the ring was out of my viewpoint and I wanted to see what was going on when suddenly the action was right in front of me. So I know I definitely unintentionally made it on DVD at that point (but unlike this one drunk lady who had two empty pitchers of beer and many other empty beer cups under her seat-her floor area was really wet from booze- who got up and stood in a turnbuckle corner acting like a manager- for some reason that stuff by the fans seriously turns me off- I really wasn't trying to be noticed. In fact, I really sort of prefer not to be noticed.)
- At one point in this match, El Generico grabbed this purse from a lady sitting just a few seats away from me and smashed it against Taylor before returning her purse. Then later, while they were battling on the stage, Taylor grabbed a set of headphones and did some commentary as he beat up El Generico. Taylor won after he smashed El Generico through a table.
In the Ring: Before the next match could start, Excalibur and the ring announcer were both pushing brooms to sweep the broken pieces of table out of the ring. During this time, some fans started up a loud sarcastic chant of "This is awesome." As I told Cman, I don't think that will make the DVD but he had a good point in saying it would make a really funny outtake/extra. ;D
Sixth Match: Brian Kendrick defeated Bryan Danielson- Kendrick, who came out to a standing ovation, appeared to be wearing his same attire (the white leather jacket) he recently wore in the WWE.
- As Cman previously mentioned here, Kendrick came out to chants of "Welcome back!" and Danielson had chants of "Please don't go!" There were competing chants of "Lets go Bryan" and "Lets go Brian." ;D
- At one point during this match, Kendrick was outside of the ring lying on the floor right in front of us and Danielson dived right on top of him taking out our seats in the process (but me and Cman were smart enough to move out of the way ahead of time).
- Also at one point in this match, at the other side of the ring there was a fan holding a pitcher of beer shouting loudly at Kendrick and Danielson when Kendrick threw Danielson into the ringpost and Danielson rebounded against the fan spilling his pitcher of beer on top of both of them.
- Kendrick won after he hit Danielson in his sack and rolled him up in a small package.
- Afterward Danielson got on the microphone to address the claims that he sold out. Danielson said that is exactly what he did because that what happens when you take money to leave a place that you love as much as PWG. Danielson also said he would like nothing more than to wrestle here in PWG in front of us for the rest of his career, but he said he has some big medical bills coming up and he has to leave but he plans to make his last PWG match next week his best ever.
Seventh Match, the Main Event: PWG Champion Chris Hero defeated Roderick Strong.- Good match, but I actually liked last month's main event match of Hero vs Joey Ryan in a Guerrilla Warfare match even better.
- Afterward, Hero talked about next week's show where he said he's going to wrestle Danielson in Danielson's last PWG match and beat Danielson so bad that he (Danielson) will forget he ever signed a WWE contract. This time, Hero didn't get any beer thrown at him.
After the Show: As I previously mentioned here on this thread, we met Danielson, Taylor, and Matt Jackson and they all signed our LOTF cards (Chris Hero signed our LOTF cards on the previous show). Also, there is some really awesome news concerning Filsinger Games coming your way soon- but of course I can't talk about it now even though I really wish I could. getting to hang out with Matt Jackson at the bar for a minute or two after the show was really awesome!
