Interesting topic. I actually dropped the sci-fi element of COTG years ago, after I moved the entire GWF to Earth, and had them compete in the present time (vs. competing in the future). It's been a lot of fun for me to "earthenize" the COTG wrestlers, many times giving them real names to go along with their nicknames.
For example, The Omega Family consists of the following:
-Chief Joseph Omega (i.e., Omega) -Daniel "Alpha Force" Omega -Terry "The Star Warrior" Omega -Ricky "Bloodline" Omega
A lot of times, I try and see what real life wrestler is most comparable to a COTG wrestler, and go from there. For example, I always saw Star Warrior as resembling Mid-South version of Terry Taylor, only better. Hence, I gave him the name of Terry.
For the Colossus's and Mandrill's of the world, I simply ignore the sci-fi elements of their character, and go on. It's pretty easy to do once you have the hang of it.

So Colossus is not half-droid? Mandrill isn't part ape? So do you just come up with your own look for them? Because the fact of the matter is, Madrill IS part ape and Comrade Terror looks nothing like a human. I don't know how you ignore the sci-fi ascpect of that. Do you just pretend that Thraxx and Zygon look like everybody else?
I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around people ignoring the science fiction of the GWF. The very idea of the GWF doesn't make any sense without it. Somebody might have to explain this to me.
So you would ignore Buck Steele's transformation into Genocide? Max Sheild's shield? Chaos' Alpha Power? Alpha Force's Ultimate Force? The entire Aethran culture? The Ani-Men? Blazing Skull? All of "The End" years through Revelations? An a million other specifically sci-fi elements that have defined the GWF over the years?
What does the "G" stand for in your GWF?

Wow. It was just a question, Steve.
KBB has "monsters."

You misunderstand me. I'm just having a little fun. You'll have to re-read my post and imagine a sarcastic tone and a laugh (I can see how it can be read as "angry"). Everybody runs their fed their own way, and I certainly am not going to take offense to how somebody I don't know runs theirs. My post was a little tonge-in-cheek. I personally just don't undertand what the appeal would be of the GWF (not COTG in general but the GWF), to somebody who doesn't like science fiction. I just don't know what's left of the GWF after the science fiction is stripped away. Like I said, somebody may have to explain that one to me. I appologize if my post reads differently--like I said, just having fun.

Purplesteve, you hit the nail on the head. Mandrill is not a half-ape...he's a hairy man. Colossus is not half-droid. So on, and so forth. I just drop the sci-fi out of it completely. But, there are aspects of the COTG wrestlers I love, so I don't want to scrap the whole character just because I envision them differently in my head. So, I just bring them down to earth, so to speak. ;D It just takes a little imagination. I haven't played by the book in years, to me, its a lot more fun making my own stories up for the characters. So, you're right, in that I'm not playing the COTG world the way Tom wrote it. But, I do like to use the COTG wrestlers, as using fictional characters can sometimes be easier, as you don't have all the real-life expectations of how a wrestler "should" perform. Oh...and in my world, the "G" stands for "Global".
