In a joint pay per view event between Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling the N.W.A. proudly presents to you
BATTLE STAR 2009
12/24/09 Live at the Charlotte Bobcat Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina
Fans we are proud to bring to you some of the hottest action that the N.W.A. has to offer. Let's get down to ringside for our first match.
1. Delirious picked up a win over Mike Quakenbush by Disqualification
Mike Quakenbush controlled the first few minutes of action. Quakenbush had Delirious pretty much out on his feet. Quakenbush connected with the Quakendriver and the fans thought that was the end. Amazingly Delirious kicked out of the pin attempt. Delirious then picked up the offense and was clearly frustrating Quakenbush. Quakenbush hit another Quakendriver and went for the pin, when Delirious kicked out one more time. The end came when Quakenbush was uncharacteristically frustrated by not being able to pin his opponent. Right in front of referee Teddy Long Quakenbush rammed Delirious right into the steel ring post, giving the referee no choice but to disqualify Quakenbush. After the match on the way to the back Quakenbush was visibly upset and refused to shake the fans hands on the way to the back.
2. J.D. Michaels w/April Hunter beat Ricky Landell by count out.
This match was a close match to call. Both men were back and forth exchanging big moves against one another. About mid-way through the match Landell went for the pin and April Hunter distracted the referee. This allowed J.D. Michaels the chance he needed to take over and control the rest of the match. Michaels hit his top rope elbow drop and Landell rolled out of the ring. Hunter jumped up on the apron and started to unbutton her top two buttons of her shirt distracting referee Tommy Young and half of the crowd. While Michaels had Landell on the outside he picked him up and delivered a devastating piledriver on the outside. Michaels rolled back in the ring and Tommy Young counted out Landell.
3. Road Warriors w/Paul Ellering destroyed The Vachons
The Road Warriors were back in the area after an extensive tour of Japan and other territories throughout the United States. While in Japan the Warriors won a huge tag team tournament. Animal started the match out for his team against Mad Dog Vachon. If the fans were hoping for a great battle between these two teams they were disappointed. Animal locked Mad Dog Vachon in the camel clutch and would not let up. Butcher Vachon tried to interfere but was caught off by Hawk. Mad Dog Vachon had no choice but to give up. The match was over in about one minute.
4. Claudio Castagnoli picked up a huge win over John Pesek
John Pesek was hoping to pick up a win here on the big P.P.V. Pesek has yet to pick up a win here in the N.W.A. Castagnoli knew that if he could win this match on P.P.V. that it was sure to get him noticed by the promoters. Castagnoli attacked Pesek right after receiving the instructions from referee Scrappy McGowen. Castagnoli did not let up. During the whole match Pesek maybe got in two offensive moves in. Castagnoli ended the match and put away Pesek with his Ricola Bomb. After the match Castagnoli challenged the winner of the t.v. title match between Rick Rude and Barry Windham to face him and defend the title.
5. The Mongols w/Capt. Lou Albano defeated Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens w/Bobby Heenan by disqualification
The Mongols are coming into this match after a successful run in Stampede Wrestling, the Canadian run promotion. While they were up there they won the tag team titles before finally losing them and coming into Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. Ray Stevens and the rest of the Heenan family have clearly not been on the same page. Bobby Heenan has berated Stevens numerous times on t.v. as well as in the locker room. You have to wonder how much more can Stevens take. Nick Bockwinkel told Stevens to stay focused going into this match so that they could get themselves in line for a tag team title shot. Both tag teams were tagging in and out giving neither team the real upper hand. The fans could not decide who to cheer for in this match as both teams were receiving an equal amount of boos and cheers. Geto was in the ring with Stevens when the action spilled outside of the ring. On the outside of the ring Beepo was laying in the punches on Bockwinkel, Albano and Heenan were more or less slapping each other, and Stevens and Geto were brawling as well. Referee J.R. Jackson was losing control of the match fast. J.R. Jackson was trying to get Stevens and Geto Mongol to come back in the ring when he saw Steven pick up and deliver a nasty piledriver onto a steel chair. Jackson called for the bell and awarded the match to The Mongols by disqualification. After the match Heenan was in the ring with Stevens and was shouting and him. Heenan reared back and slapped the taste out of Stevens mouth. Stevens had about as much as he could take and lifted Heenan up by his lapels. Nick Bockwinkel ran into the ring and delivered a running knee smash into Stevens back. Bockwinkel ran Stevens into the steel ring post busting him wide open. Heenan and Bockwinkel delivered the boots to Stevens. The crowd rose to their feet when sprinting from the back was none other than the returning Jimmy Snuka to save his former partner.
6. Ted Dibiase beat Larry Zbysko w/Sherri Martel
N.W.A. Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title Match
It took a few minutes to get this match underway as Larry Zbysko kept jaw jacking with the fans. Everytime that it would look like Larry was about to climb into the ring a fan would shout something at him and he would leave the ring to yell at the fan. Ted Dibiase was getting very frustrated by these stall tactics. At one point Dibiase grabbed the house mic and asked the fans to please be quiet so he could let the butt kicking commence. Once Larry entered the ring Dibiase controlled the action. Dibiase would not let up on Larry Z. Larry was begging Sherri to please do something. At one point Sherri jumped onto the ring apron and was arguing with referee Tommy Young over what she saw as a slow count. While the refereeās back was turned Ted Dibiase loaded up his black glove. When Larry turned around Dibiase connected with a huge right hand with the loaded glove knocking out Larry Z. Sherri tried to put Larryās foot on the bottom rope but it was too late and the referee counted the 3. This marked the first time that Ted Dibiase won the Mid-Atlantic title. Larry Zbysko told the referee that Dibiase had something in his glove but Dibiase had already left the ring and the referee told Larry his decision was final.
7. Bryan Danielson beat Adrian Street
Street Fight Match
NWA Junior World Title Match
This was one of the most anticipated matches on the card. The bad blood between these two is well documented. Danielson had promised the fans not only would he win the Junior title but in the process he was going to make the āExoticā one himself bleed. As was expected the action spilled out of the within the first couple of minutes. Both men were brawling with one another up and down the aisle. At one point Danielson went for Cattle Mutilation on the outside but Street was able to counter. Street grabbed the ring bell and connected right against the skull of Danielson splitting him wide open. Street took the action back into the ring and went for his London Bridge leg lock, the same move he won the title from Danielson with. This time however Danielson would not give up. Danielson threw Street out of the ring and ran him right into the steel post. Danielson grabbed a chair from a ringside fan and hit Street so hard with it, he dented the chair. Both men at this point were bleeding buckets. Neither man wanted to lose this match and gave the fans their all. The end of the match came when Street charged into the turnbuckle and Danielson moved and rolled up Street with a school boy and picked up the win and the title.
8. Rick Rude w/Bobby Heenan picked up a win against Barry Windham by count out.
N.W.A. Television Title Match
Rick Rude came into this match very confident that he was going to make short work of Barry Windham. Barry Windham started out this match with a very fast pace. He clearly had Rude thrown off of his game plan. Everytime it seemed that Rude would hit an offensive move, Windham seemed to have a counter for it. Heenan was outside the ring beside himself, as he could see champion was about to lose the match. The end came when Rude threw Windham to the outside of the ring and distracted the referee Teddy Long. While on the outside Heenan kicked Windham hard in the ribs. Rude went to the outside to continue doing damage to Windham. Heenan called the referee over while Rude connected with a beautiful Rude Awakening on the outside of the ring. Rude went back into the ring and unfortunately for Windham he could not meet the refereeās ten count giving Rude the win.
9. Diamond Dallas Page pinned One Man Gang w/Larry Sharpe
N.W.A. National Heavyweight Title Match
Sharpe had been promising for weeks that Gang was going to walk out of this match with the National title and in the process put DDP on the shelf. Gang controlled the match from the onset with big power moves. Page clearly did not have any counters for the big man and his power. Gang threw Page to the outside of the ring and connected with a big 747 splash to Page who was laid out on the concrete. Gang rolled Page back into the ring and went for another 747 splash that Page moved out of the way of. Before Gang knew what hit him, Page landed a diamond cutter. Larry Sharpe pulled Gangās foot under the bottom rope, breaking the refereeās count. Gang took back over control and hit another 747 splash. Page somehow mustered the strength to barely kick out just as the referee was about to slap the mat for the 3rd time. Gang went for a big bodyslam when Page slipped out and nailed Gang with a big diamond cutter. Larry Sharpe was arguing with a fan at ringside and didnāt see until it was too late and One Man Gang was pinned.
10. Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette beat Heartbreak Express w/Larry Sharpe
N.W.A. United States Tag Team Title Match
Coming into this match the Heartbreak Express were on a huge winning streak. On a previous card Sean Davis along with One Man Gang managed to injure the ribs of Dennis Condrey. Condrey had vowed revenge for his injury. Dennis Condrey started out the action for his team again Phil Davis. Phil and Sean Davis cut off the ring and tagged in and out keeping Condrey in the ring. Finally Bobby Eaton was able to come into the ring. Bobby Eaton stood toe to toe with the big man Sean Davis. Bobby Eaton hit Sean Davis with a stinging right hand, and had the big man Sean Davis rocking and reeling. Bobby Eaton finally knocked Sean Davis off his feet. Eaton went to the top rope and hit a huge flying elbow drop from the top rope. Eaton hooked the leg of Sean Davis and went for the pin. Phil Davis tried to break up the pin but tripped coming into the ring, the refereeās hand slapped the mat 3 times and the Midnight Express had their hands raised in victory.
11. Steve Corino pinned Curt Henning w/Bobby Heenan
If Steve Corino loses this match he will not receive another shot at the United States title
N.W.A. United States Heavyweight Title
Steve Corino came to the ring with his game face on. Curt Henning has held the U.S. Title for almost a year now. Henning has also already defeated Corino on two different occassions. Corino knew that this was his last chance to try and win the title. Corino laid into Henning from the opening bell, hitting with big chops and right hands. Henning was desperate to try and gain some offense. Corino would not let up on Henning. At one point the action spilled to the outside and Corino hit a huge superkick on Henning. Bobby Heenan was arguing with the referee and while he was, Corino hit Henning with a chair shot so hard that the people in the cheap seats could hear it. The end of the match came when Corino delivered a devastating powerbomb to Henning on the outside of the ring and rolled him back into the ring. Heenan jumped up on the ring apron and Corino hit him with a big right hook, turned around and hooked both legs and picked up the win.
12. The Dream Team w/Larry Sharpe won by disqualification against Rob Van Dam & Sabu
N.W.A. World Tag Team Title Match
This match was a rematch from the Donald J. Major memorial cup tournament finals. During that match RVD & Sabu won the cup and the million dollars. The Dream Team had picked up some big wins coming into this match and were determined to walk out of the arena with the tag belts. RVD started the match out against Brutus Beefcake. RVD was hitting Beefcake with everything in his arsenal. RVD was putting on a wrestling clinic. The team of RVD & Sabu were tagging in and out wearing down Beefcake. Beefcake finally made the tag to Greg Valentine. Valentine proved why he was the work horse of the team. Valentine had RVD in the ring and wore him down. At one point Valentine had RVD in the figure four, and RVD was about to quit before Sabu broke up the move. RVD rolled out of the ring and grabbed a chair. Right in front of the referee RVD hit Valentine with the chair giving the referee no choice but to award the match to the Dream Team by disqualification. Beefcake and Sabu both entered the ring and the two teams brawled all the way to the back
13. Ivan Koloff defeated Harley Race
Russian Chain Match
N.W.A. World Title Match
Ivan Koloff did not know who his opponent was going to be for this match. President Jim Crockett Jr. had told Ivan that he would not know who his opponent was until his challenger was announced coming into the ring. Ivan Koloff demanded that the match at least be a Russian Chain match so that he would have some sort of ability to combat whoever his opponent was. Ivan Koloff made his way down to ringside with his chain wrapped around his neck. Ivan got on the house mic and was telling the fans what a travisty this match was for a couple of reasonās. He said the first reason was because the stupid American N.W.A. President Crockett was trying to take his title away from him by not allowing him to know who his opponent was so he could prepare for his match. He said the second travisty was the fact that he was the World Champion and should be announced last. Ivan threw the mic at Gary Michael Cappetta. Gary then announced the challenger for the World Title was Harley Race. The crowd let out a huge roar as Race made his way down to the ring. Race climbed into the ring and had his wrist attached to the chain. Koloff gave the referee J.R. Jackson a hard time about his opponent and the fact that he had to be connected like a barbarian to this stupid American athelete Harley Race. By the time the referee called for the bell Koloff jumped Race. Koloff tied the chain to his fist and peppered Race with a series of hard punches. Both men went back and forth with each other, hitting each other with the chain in the process. The action spilled out of the ring and Koloff wrapped the chain around the ring post and ran Raceās head right into it splitting Race wide open. Koloff dragged Race back into the ring and went for the pin, Race somehow managed to kick out. Koloff threw Race back outside and wrapped the chain around the post and ran Race into chain covered post. This time when Koloff rolled Race back inside he wrapped up Raceās legs with the chain and picked up the pin to retain his World Title.
****What a fantastic way to celebrate Christmas Eve****
****In what was truly uncharacteristic Mike Quakenbush lost his temper and it cost him a big match. You have to wonder if some of his recent losses are starting to get to this young man
****We will have to keep an eye on J.D. Michaels as he picked up a big win against Ricky Landell. Then again we have seen J.D. Michaels pick up some big wins in the past only to lose his momentum
****What a way to welcome back The Road Warriors. They are showing a side of them that we havenāt seen in a long time. Letās hope the Legion of Doom decides to stay here with us for awhile
****Claudio Castagnoli picked up a big P.P.V. win against John Pesek. There was so much hype for the debut of John Pesek and all he has seemed to do is not live up to the hype
****You have to ask yourself what is going to happen to the Heenan Family now that they have kicked out and embarrased Ray Stevens. Something to keep in mind is that they do not call Ray Stevens āThe Cripplerā because he takes it easy on people. This feud should prove not to be for the weak at heart, as you can bet there will be plenty of blood spilled.
****Ted Dibiase seems to be back on track to making another serious run for the World Title. Do not let yourself be fooled in thinking that the Mid-Atlanitic title is prestigous, as you can bet that Dibiase will use this as a springboard to earn himself another World Title shot. If only he didnāt have to use that loaded glove, he would be that much better
****Barry Windham proved to everyone tonight that he is going to be a force to be reckoned with as he almost had won the t.v. title. You can bet that there will be future title shots coming his way
****Bryan Danielson regained the N.W.A. Junior World Title, but he did it at what cost? Both Danielson and Street spilled buckets of blood and their feud seems far from over. You have to ask yourself what is it going to take to end this feud between these two. Their matches however have been some of the best on the cards
****Diamond Dallas Page retained his National Title against One Man Gang. You can bet that Page will be feeling the beating he received when he wakes up the next morning. We will have to wait on word to see if Pageās ribs are broken or not
****The Midnight Express were able to retain their U.S. Tag Team Ttiles against the cocky, young team of The Heartbreak Express. You can probably bet that this is not the last time that you will see these two teams meet. Larry Sharpe was already in the back claiming that his team got cheated and was demanding a rematch against The Midnight Express. Larry Sharpe also stated that the injury that Dennis Condrey suffered was just the start of more injuries to come
****In what could have been his last shot at the U.S. Title, Steve Corino made the best of his oppurtunity. Steve Corino pinned Curt Henning and showed the fans just what he was made of. The U.S. Title was one of the only titles Corino hadnāt won yet. In the back Steve Corino promised to be a fighting champion and let the fans know that there is only one singles title he hasnāt held yet and that was the World Title and that they could count on the fact that he would soon be the World Champion
****The tag team match for the World Tag Team Titles was kind of a let down to the fans. Most fans figured that RVD & Sabu would steamroll over The Dream Team. The Dream Team however proved why they are the number 1 contenders to the tag team straps. In the back RVD & Sabu let the fans know that when they meet The Dream Team again that they had a surprise up their sleeves to counter that weasel Larry Sharpe. When told of their comments Larry Sharpe told the press that it didnāt matter who they brought in, because their was no one that could possibly help them keep their belts the next time
****In the main event Ivan Koloff proved what kind World Champion he is. He was able to defend his title against a former World Champion. Koloff beat Harley Race and showed the fans just what he was made of. Race had the advantage going into the match, however he was not able to capatilize on it. Ivan Koloff seems to have a firm grip on the World Title this go around. We will have to wait and see who can beat the big man known as The Russian Bear.
Well fans thank you very much for tuning into this huge Pay Per View. Make sure you continue to watch the N.W.A. Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and Georgia Championship Wrestling on your local television and cable stations. Until the next time we see you, So long everybody
