It's just a matter of preference. Now the GWF operates under different rules from aCe and POW. I think you can get the aCe and POW stuff without subscribing. The GWF you have to subscribe to use them I think but again there are others who know better than I would.
I'd go with NB but hard to beat 2087 I admit.

Thanks all, the online version carries all the same expansions and such as the other? I mean wouldnt that end up costing a fair bit more as from what I see there is a subscription as well? Dont get me wrong that subscription is a modest price but it all adds up. And thanks for the update relating to Australian shipping COTGonline doesn't offer every game edition but it has packaged together game editions to act as jump on points. There are game packs for the original GWF (2087) and then the Invasion era(2088-2090) and then the New Beginning era (2119-2122), both of which are great places to start. My advice is to go with New Beginning...nothing like being current. ~ :-Xsk

The online sets come at a discount to the hardcopy sets, although they are bundled together. When you factor in the subscription costs its pretty much a wash. The real decision is whether you want to play online or with physical cards and dice.

now that I'm thinking about it, if you have the funds, maybe you should buy both New Beginnings and 2087.
I started with New Beginnings and I felt a bit overwhelmed with all the history. About a year later when I ordered 2087, and saw all of the themes and names in the beginning set, the stuff in New Beginning seemed alot clearer and it was much easier to relate to since the framework for alot of the factions, names, and histories in New Beginning all sort of start in 2087.

Personally, I like starting with Early Classics...but New Beginnings and 2087 are both much cheaper buy-ins to get you started, so if you DON'T like the game, you're not out nearly as much money.

Technically, I had never been to these boards before, but thanks...=)
Good thing I kept such detailed notes for my Early Classics fed...made playing for the first time in about a year easy.

Tommy, can you hear me? Nice to see your name again.
I'm doing Early Classics now myself (I'm in Year 3, or late 2076). It's a lot of fun to fill in the old days.

Good to see you back, TB! Hopefully, I can get back to reading your EC results soon... you and BigBri had two of the best EC feds going for a long time and you've both been on hiatus way too long.
