Disappointed that Destroyer did not bring his A game to the tournament. Would like to see Richards claim the cup. I agree in that The Destroyer didn't provide much opposition to Don Muraco unfortunately. It was a pretty solid win for Muraco. As for Richards, stay tuned...

First round action of the PWI Invitational was unpredictable and that's how a gooud tourney should be. Dundee over Lewis was the shocker to me and the Richards/Firpo match up was the most intriguing to me going in. Cannon and Riddle also pulled off nice wins. I'm with Crimson Cross in wanting to see at least Dick Hutton winning it all. A Hutton/Richards final would be great but they have two formidable New Age Horsemen to get through first. looking forward to the next round! Thanks for the comments, Aceldamas. You are right in that unpredictability can really make a tournament fun and Bill Dundee over Ed Lewis was definitely a shocker. Richards vs. Firpo was pretty fun. I was also shocked when Riddle got by Mad Dog Vachon as I thought it would go the other way. Next round coming soon...

Gotta say that first round had some cool results with Don Muraco and Dick Hutton both moving on and part of my prediction of those two winning it all, is still alive. I only got 3 picks correct and here are my picks... Bill Dundee vs. Don Muraco Rick Rude vs. Dick HuttonCurt Hennig vs. Davey RichardsArik Cannon vs. Matt Riddle I'm still looking to see if Muraco or Hutton can go the distance, but Hutton winning it all would be cool and him winning over The Destroyer was top notch... Thanks for your comments and predictions, Crimson. The next round is coming up soon so we will see how you do with your predictions...

Semi-Final Round:
7) “Ravishing” Rick Rude (with J.J. Dillon) defeated “The Magnificent” Don Muraco (with Jimmy Hart) (Pinfall – Rude Awakening)
8) Davey Richards defeated Matt Riddle (Submission – Ankle Lock)
Match Highlights: The quarter-final round opened with “Superstar” Bill Dundee (World of Sport) taking on “The Magnificent” Don Muraco (Pacific Coast Wrestling) who was accompanied by his manager Jimmy Hart. The referee ordered Hart to leave ringside as per the tournament rules but Hart protested loudly using his megaphone. With Hart refusing to leave, Dundee snuck up behind him and tossed the obnoxious manager over the top rope onto the MLG ramp leading back to the locker room. The crowd cheered that as Hart was then dragged off by LOW officials. Muraco was upset over that and tried to take it out on Dundee but the “Battlin’ Aussie” was ready for him. Dundee more than held his own against the larger Muraco and had the crowd fully on his side. Things took a bad turn when Muraco used the controversial Asiatic Spike on Dundee leaving him gasping for air. The finish came a short time later as Muraco planted Dundee with the Hawaiian Hammer to score the pin and advance to the semi-finals.
One of the most controversial matches of the tournament thus far saw “Ravishing” Rick Rude (Capitol Wrestling Alliance), accompanied by his manager J.J. Dillon, win a disqualification decision over Dick Hutton (Golden Age Wrestling). Dillon gave Rude some advice before leaving ringside and it looked like it may have worked. Rude had a hard time putting Hutton away scoring near falls with the piledriver, top rope kneedrop and swinging neckbreaker. Hutton’s resilience frustrated Rude who took it outside the ring and attempted to use a chair. Hutton blocked that and took the chair away twice slamming it across the back of Rude. That action caused the referee to call for the DQ allowing Rude to advance to the semi-final round. Hutton protested the call but it was to no avail giving the New Age Horsemen at least one shot to make the finals.
Manager J.J. Dillon returned to ringside with New Age Horsemen member Curt Hennig (Capitol Wrestling Alliance) as he took on the “Lone Wolf” Davey Richards (Pacific Coast Wrestling) in what was a highly anticipated match. Hennig had an epic bout with Bullet Club member Adam Cole in the first round and looked to repeat that here against the very capable Richards. Dillon sized up Richards before leaving the ringside area and the match was underway. Richards was on point throughout this contest and had Hennig on the defensive hitting key moves like the Alarm Clock and the superplex. Hennig was also busted open when Richards ran him into the guard rail during a battle on the floor. Hennig refused to give in, though, and even battled his way out of the Ankle Lock late in the match. It took everything Richards had to pull this one out which he did when he pinned Hennig after a Multiple Suplex Assault. The victory sent Richards on to the semi-final round and ended the possibility of Hennig against Rick Rude in an all New Age Horsemen final.
The final quarter-final round match saw “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon (Extreme CHIKARA Wrestling) taking on Matt Riddle (Kings Road United). This was a great bout that saw both men nearly win it early. Riddle scored with the cross armbreaker on Cannon but he got to the ropes for a break and then Cannon bounced back hitting the Anarchist Hammer for a big near fall. Riddle took over after that with a flurry of strikes and a fisherman’s buster for a near fall. Cannon then struck back with a charging clothesline that drove Riddle out of the ring. Cannon followed him out and roughed him up but back inside Riddle made a surprise counter and locked on the Bromission, a twister-style submission hold. Cannon struggled to escape but he was unable to and he tapped out giving Riddle the win via submission and sending the talented young star on to the semi-final round.
The semi-final round kicked off with a huge battle as “Ravishing” Rick Rude of the New Age Horsemen took on “The Magnificent” Don Muraco of the First Family. J.J. Dillon and Jimmy Hart, the respective managers, got into a heated verbal exchange during the ring introductions before being escorted to the back by LOW officials. That set the tone for what was a roughhouse battle between two powerful wrestlers. Muraco held control early and scored near falls on Rude with a vertical suplex and a neckbreaker. Rude struck back hitting his finisher, the Rude Awakening, but somehow Muraco kicked out of the pin. Rude vehemently argued with the referee before he got back into it and hit a clothesline on Muraco for another near fall. The two continued trading blows until Rude took charge in the later stages and, after a big suplex, he caught Muraco with a second dose of the Rude Awakening and scored the pin. Rude cemented his spot in the finals at WrestleCade 12 with a very impressive win.
The main event, and the conclusion of the semi-final round, was an incredible battle pitting the “Lone Wolf” Davey Richards against Matt Riddle. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as the two men engaged in a heated bout exchanging holds and counters throughout. Richards blistered Riddle with moves like the multiple suplex assault and the suicide dive. He also used both the Cloverleaf and the Ankle Lock in succession for submission chances. Riddle likewise scored big with moves like the Brostroyer and the running knee strike, the latter of which knocked Richards out of the ring and nearly resulted in a count out decision. He also connected with the Bro 2 Sleep and the Bro 2 Sleep and Bridging German Suplex combo for big near falls. Richards impressively survived the Bromission by getting to the ropes and then regained control nailing Riddle with a folding powerbomb. That left Riddle in a vulnerable state and Richards slapped on the Ankle Lock again this time resulting in a submission victory. Richards won it and claimed a spot in the finals opposite Rick Rude, but first he shook hands with Riddle drawing a big ovation from the sold-out crowd.
In other action…
In the first of two championship matches on the night, the unhinged pairing of “Crazy” Mary Dobson & Courtney Rush became two-time SHIMMER tag team champions as they won the belts from the Canadian Ninjas (Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews). Perez, a spunky native of Ontario, was a huge crowd favorite here but by the end of the match things were looking bleak for the six-time co-holder of the SHIMMER tag team titles. This was an even contest between the two teams until it took a turn for the worse when Rush sprayed her controversial blue mist into the eyes of Matthews. Perez argued with the referee but was then blindsided by Rush and knocked off the ring apron hitting her head on the guard rail. After an exchange, Rush distracted the official as Dobson put on her hockey mask and blasted Matthews with a Headbutt that resulted in a snake eyes pin. Just like that it was Dobson and Rush regaining the tag titles which incredibly have changed hands five consecutive times without a successful title defense by the champions.
Winning back the SHIMMER tag team championship was not enough for Dobson and Rush, though, as they continued assaulted Matthews post-match as Perez was laid out at ringside. Perez finally recovered and tried to get into the ring when Dobson nailed her with a hockey mask headbutt. Rush then took Perez out to the ramp and gave Perez the F5 on the hard-wooden surface. Perez was out of it and had to be helped by paramedics as Rush and Dobson headed to the back. Matthews recovered and ran to her partner who was still down and not responding. They eventually got a neck brace on Perez who began showing signs of life and took her off on a stretcher with a distraught Matthews following close behind.
“Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe of LOW All-Star Wrestling was hoping to relieve The Mountie of the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title, but he came up short. The Mountie, who was accompanied by his manager Sherri Martel, was surprisingly cheered by the crowd likely due to his being a native of Canada. The Quebec native pummeled Sharpe early and stunned him with the Shock Stick but pulled him up at the count of two. Sharpe, who lost SSA, Inc. to Martel in Pacific Coast Wrestling, really had an axe to grind with both her and The Mountie in this one. He fought hard, including kicking out at two after The Mountie came off the top rope with a flying bodypress, but never seemed in a position to win it. A referee distraction by Martel led to another Shock Stick assault by The Mountie which this time resulted in the pin. It was a successful version five title defense for The Mountie and Martel celebrated by digging her heel into the chest of the defeated Sharpe. She also gestured around her waist and screamed out that she was going to take the Ring Angels title away from Mildred Burke at WrestleCade 12.
Injury Report: * Portia Perez suffered a severe concussion injury at the hands of “Crazy” Mary Dobson and Courtney Rush and she is expected to be sidelined indefinitely. SHIMMER promoter Dave Prazak issued a statement afterward denouncing the actions of Dobson and Rush and said that he would address the situation when SHIMMER returns to The Eagle’s Club for Volume 52 in Berwyn, IL (Card #1207)
