COTG BUSINESS MODEL
This is a rather simple method of reproducing the business and
financial aspects of the GWF. Even though the game is set many
years into the future, and on an interplanetary scale, we will
still be using the U.S. Dollar as the unit of currency (for
simplicity).
The system has many components to it that relate to each other,
but they are all SIMPLE to calculate.
The history the business model will begin at the inception of
the GWF. Galactic Technologies Inc. (GTI) has set aside $4 million
to start and fund the new Galaxian Wrestling Federation (GWF). The
first card has been scheduled for January 30, 2074. This brings us
to our first issue: How much to pay the wrestlers?
WRESTLER PAY
The wrestlers earn their money in two ways. The first is obviously
match performance, and the second is through merchandising. Right
now, we’ll deal with match performance.
WRESTLER “DRAW”
To determine how much a wrestler earns from a match, first you must
determine how much his DRAW is. DRAW is basically how many fans a
wrestler is putting in the seats on a given card. Here are the
guidelines for issuing DRAW:
*New fans refers to Draw rating
DRAW CHART
RESULT NEW FANS EARNED TV SHOW NEW FANS EARNED PPV
WIN 20 40
LOSS 10 20
WINNING SINGLES/TAG TITLE
250/200 500/400
RETAINING SINGLES/TAG TITLE**
125/100 250/200
*Multiple wins of the Galaxian Heavyweight Title DO NOT ADD to
the total. So, if the wrestler has won the Galaxian Heavyweight
Title 3 times but does not currently hold it, he only gets
250 DRAW.
**This doesn’t accumulate for every card; it remains constant as
long as the wrestler holds the title. Basically you add the 125
or 100 on every card that the wrestler holds the title, and after
he loses it, you quit adding the 125 or 100.
DRAW AMOUNTS FOR PPV’S ARE DOUBLED
EXAMPLE: Omega has 23 wins and 5 losses. He also has 1 PPV win.
He has won the Galaxian Heavyweight Title twice and currently
holds it. His fan base is as follows…
RESULT NUMBER FANS
WINS (X 20) 23 460
PPV WINS (X40) 1 40
LOSSES (X10) 5 50
PPV LOSSES (X20) 0 0
MAJOR TITLES 2 750
TOTAL FAN BASE N/A 1300
All DRAW numbers for tag teams are split 50/50 between the two
members. If one member is wrestling in a singles match, then
their DRAW is calculated from half of their Tag Team DRAW.
If/when a tag team splits up, each member takes half of the
Tag Team DRAW with him in his singles career.
PAY SCALE
Wrestlers are paid $5 per DRAW for all regular matches, win or
lose (winning and losing will alter the DRAW to the favor of the
winners, so the pay rate will remain the same for both winners
and losers). Let’s take another look at Omega…
Let’s say Omega defeats Morpheus via pinfall. Omega’s current
DRAW was 1300, but it’s now 1320 because of the win.
1320 X $5 = $6600 for the night. Morpheus’ current DRAW was 1000,
but now it is 1010 because he lost. 1010 X $5 = $5050 for the night.
AS WITH DRAW ITSELF, ALL PAY RATES ARE DOUBLED AT PPV’S, so
if the Omega-Morpheus match had taken place at a PPV, Omega’s
DRAW would have risen from 1300 to 1340 because of his win.
1340 X $10 = $13,400 for the night. Morpheus’ DRAW would
have risen from 1000 to 1020 because of his loss.
1020 X $10 = $10,200 for the night.
Special Matches also have different DRAW rates (for TV cards;
remember to double them at PPV’s):
Castor Chain Match: $6 (per DRAW)
Cosmic Cage Match: $6
Brass Knuckles Match: $6
Dog Collar Match: $7 points
Elimination Tag Team Match: Points Awarded (per DRAW)
Falls Count Anywhere Match: $6
First Blood Match: $5
4 Corners Match: Points Awarded (per DRAW)
Indian Strap Match: $6
Iron Man Match: $10
Last Man Standing Match: $10
Lumberjack Match: $6
Stretcher Match: $8
Stun Rod Match: $6
Texas Bullrope Match: $7
Triple Threat Match: $8
2/3 Falls Match: Points Awarded (per DRAW)
BATTLE ROYALS
15-Man or above W-$10, 1RU-$8, 2RU-$7, all other $5
10-14 Man W-$7, 1RU-6, all others-$5
*Every participant also earns an additional .10 per DRAW
for every man he eliminates
MERCHANDISING
To help the wrestlers and the company earn more money, a merchandise
stand will be set up at every card (TV & PPV). Every 3 cards, the
top 5 wrestlers (tag teams will count as a single entity here) will
be able to have a T-Shirt designed that will be put up for sale
at the merchandise stand for the next 3 cards. This “Top 5”
is determined by seeing who earned the most new fans during the
previous 3 cards (it is NOT based on any cumulative or career
spanning DRAW). The GWF wants the most popular wrestlers at
any given time to “move” merchandise, thus making the company
more money.
Every T-Shirt must have a specific design (Example: For Screw,
a “Screw You” T-Shirt would be put up for sale at the stand).
To determine the number of T-Shirts sold over the course of
3 cards, roll on the following chart for EACH T-Shirt before the
1st & 4th card of each section (at the beginning of each month):
*Increase rolls by 2 for the Galaxian Heavyweight Champion and 1
for the Galaxian Tag Team Champions.
MERCHANDISE CHART
ROLL RESULT
2-3 The company "takes a bath" on the product. The company
loses 1 X Wrestler's DRAW No loss to the wrestler, but the company
discontinues the product (the wrestler may not have any merchandise
for sale for 3 cards).
4-5 There is an unsold inventory of the product. The company
loses .33 X Wrestler's DRAW. No loss to the wrestler.
6-7 Total Sales = .167 X Wrestler's DRAW
8-9 Total Sales = .33 X Wrestler's DRAW
10-11 Total Sales = .5 X Wrestler's DRAW
12+ Total Sales = 1 X Wrestler's DRAW
* The sale price for ALL T-Shirts is $20. It costs $10 to
manufacture a T-Shirt, therefore, a $10 profit is made on every
T-Shirt that is sold. So, let’s use Omega for an example again.
At the beginning of the month, he rolls on the chart above, and
gets an 8. After adding 2 (because he’s the current Galaxian
Heavyweight Champion), he ends up with a 10. This indicates
that the total number of Omega T-Shirts sold would be
1.5 X Wrestler DRAW, which would be 1.5 X 1300, which equals 1950
T-Shirts sold. Now, multiply 1950 X $10 (the profit made on
every T-Shirt) and you get $19,500 in total profits. Omega
gets $9750 and the GWF gets $9750 (but don’t forget that the
other $19,500 should be recorded as “Merchandise Expense”).
The GWF will also sell a GWF “Logo” T-Shirt at every card.
Use the average DRAW of all the active wrestlers on the 1st or
4th card of the section to calculate the profits for the
next 3 cards. The GWF gets half of the profits, and all of
the active wrestlers on that card SPLIT the other half.
Let’s say the average DRAW is 800 and a 10 is rolled on the
chart above. 1.5 X 800 = 1200, 1200 X $10 = $12,000 in total
profits. The GWF gets $6000 and all of the active wrestlers
on that card split the other $6000 (with the other $12,000
being recorded as “Merchandise Expense”). So, if all
19 GWF wrestlers preformed on that card, then each of them
would get $315 (although $315 X 19 = $5985, the remaining
$15 goes to the Galaxian Heavyweight Champion; think of it
as a little bonus; only give this bonus if the division doesn't
come out evenly, meaning, there’s decimals in your split figure).
For PPV’s (The 6th and final card of a section), a PPV T-Shirt
will be sold starting on the 4th card of a section (it will be
sold for 3 cards, including the PPV itself). Calculate the sales
of this by using the average DRAW of all the active wrestlers on
the 4th card of the section to calculate the profits on the PPV
T-Shirt, but Add 1 to the chart roll.
DETERMINING ATTENDANCE
It’s really simple; all you do is add up the current DRAW of
all active wrestlers on the card. There’s your attendance.
However, this figure needs to be plugged in to other equations
in order for the company to operate efficiently.
ARENA RENTAL
This cost varies depending on the size of the arena. The goal
is for the GWF to start its journey by holding their cards in
smaller arenas, than, as the federation grows in popularity,
larger venues will need to be rented out to accommodate the
growing number of fans. For the arena names, locations,
capacities, rental fees, and ticket prices (per seat), see the
Arena List.
To calculate the profits for an arena rental, first calculate
the attendance*. Multiply the attendance by the ticket price.
That is your total box office sales for the night. Then
subtract the Arena Rental Cost from the total box office sales.
Your end figure will be either your total box office profits
(or losses) for the night.
Let’s look at an example. Say we want to hold a card at
The Wolf’s Den on Wolf 359, and the combined current DRAW
for all of the wrestlers on a card is 19,000. The Wolf’s Den
charges $15 per ticket for admission, so here’s the equation:
19,000 X $15 = $285,000 (total box office sales)
-$113,610 (Arena Rental Cost)
$171,390 (Total Box Office Profits)
*FOR ALL PPV EVENTS, MULTIPLY THE COMBINED CURRENT DRAW BY
1.5 TO DETERMINE ATTENDANCE, AND FOR THE “BIG CARD” OF
THE YEAR (WRESTLEMANIA-TYPE EVENT), MULTIPLY IT BY 2 (MEANING
THAT MORE FANS WILL WANT TO ATTEND THE PPV’S).
MATCH RATING
The profit or loss of advertising revenue and HoloVision ratings
of each show are based on the quality of the matches, and the
overall quality of the program, entitled “Turbo”. The matches
will be graded on the following scale:
MATCH RATING CHART
RATING TV RESULT PPV RESULT
DUD -$20,000 -$40,000
1/2 OR * -$10,000 -$20,000
*1/2 OR ** NO CHANGE NO CHANGE
**1/2 OR *** +$10,000 +$20,000
***1/2 OR **** +$20,000 +$40,000
****1/2 OR ***** +$30,000 +$60,000
In order to establish a fair system, all Match Ratings will be
based on the fatigue tokens that each wrestler accumulates
(including the final PIN, DQ, or Countout). The total is
divided by 2 and that is your Match Rating.
EXAMPLE: Omega and Morpheus square off. Morpheus hits the
TRIP TO HADES twice on Omega (2), while Omega throws Morpheus
out of the ring where Morpheus sustains an “Add 1” from a
possible Countout (1). Omega then hits a surprise Indian Death
Lock and goes for a submission (1). Although Morpheus escapes,
Omega quickly hits the TOMAHAWK THRUST and gets the pin (1).
The total fatigue points accumulated in this match is 5.
Divide that 5 by 2 and you end up with a **1/2 Match Rating.
Tag Team matches and Triple Threat matches are divided by 2 as well.
Battle Royals automatically get **
For Elimination Matches, treat each fall as a separate match.
For Special Matches in which a PIN Rating of 12 is necessary for
the win, use your own judgment when determining the Match Rating.
For all title matches, add 2 to the fatigue total BEFORE you
divide by 2.
For all feud matches, add 1 to the fatigue total BEFORE you
divide by 2.
AS SEEN IN THE CHART ABOVE, ALL MATCH RATING PROFITS AND LOSSES
ARE DOUBLED FOR PPV’S (IF YOU HAVE A GOOD OR A BAD MATCH,
EVERYONE WILL SEE IT).
Rather than calculate the profit or loss from each match, it’s
better to do it at the end of the night. Add up the ratings of
every match and THEN calculate the profit or loss for the entire
card.
HOLOVISION RATINGS
HoloVision ratings are another determining factor of your
federation’s fan base. We will buy the ratings as the federation
grows. The initial investment of HoloVision ratings will be
for advertising, broadcasting equipment, airtime on the network,
and the hiring of non-wrestling personnel (referees, announcers,
office staff, ring crew, cameramen, technicians, transportation,
etc.). Additional investments will need to be made to maintain
these assets.
Each .1 of a HoloVision Rating is costs $10,000. We want to
launch our first show with a base HoloVision Rating of 2.0, so
that will cost $2 million. Until we purchase more HoloVision
Ratings, every show will start out at a 2.0 base.
The Final HoloVision Rating for a card is a combination of the
base rating and a percentage of the Match Ratings. To calculate
this figure, add up all of the Match Ratings from the card,
then divide by the number of matches on the card to get your
Average Match Rating. Divide that by 10 and then add that
to the base HoloVision Rating and you end up with your Total
HoloVision Rating for the night.
EXAMPLE: You hold a card with 8 matches and the Total Match
Rating is 24 stars. 24/8 = 3 stars. Divide that by 10 and
you get .3. Add that .3 to the 2.0 base and you end up
with a 2.3 HoloVision Rating for the night.
Additional HoloVision Ratings can be purchased in increments
of .1 for the cost of $10,000. You may make these purchases
at the beginning of every month (the 1st and 4th cards of a section).
PAY-PER-VIEW RATINGS
PPV’s are calculated in “buy rates”. Buy rates cost much less
than HoloVision Ratings, and are figured by first multiplying
the base rating (still 2.0 to start out with) by .25, and you
end up with .5. Now, let’s say that the total Match Rating
from the PPV is *** (3 stars). Multiply that 3 by .05 (.15) and
add it to the .5 from the first part of the equation. Your
total will be .65. Here it is in mathematical form:
(2.0 X .25) + (3 X .05) (.5) + (.15) .65
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

PPV’s are calculated in “buy rates”. Buy rates cost much less
than HoloVision Ratings, and are figured by first multiplying
the base rating (still 2.0 to start out with) by .25, and you
end up with .5. Now, let’s say that the total Match Rating
from the PPV is *** (3 stars). Multiply that 3 by .05 (.15) and
add it to the .5 from the first part of the equation. Your
total will be .65. Here it is in mathematical form:
(2.0 X .25) + (3 X .05) (.5) + (.15) .65
