Heartland Championship Wrestling proudly presents:May 2, 2020
Calihan Hall, Detroit, Michigan The show opens with the tune, "Knocked Down, Made Small" by Was (Not Was) playing overhead. EPICDAVE and VELVET SKY head to the ring together, smiling and waving to the fans. Velvet is decked out in a Miguel Cabrera jersey, bringing cheers from the crowd as she climbs between the ropes.EpicDave: Hey, fans! It's a perfect day for virtual sports here in Detroit. As the world anxiously awaits the return of baseball,
Heartland Championship Wrestling is proud to present the pay-per-view broadcast of
Heartland Havoc XCVII: Knocked Down! The superstars of
West Coast Championship Wrestling and
Heartland Ladies' Wrestling are teaming up today for an outstanding night of action.
Velvet: You got that right!
SHERRI MARTEL is going to be fighting to keep the
Heartland Ladies' Championship against
CHEERLEADER MELISSA. Melissa is going for her TENTH Ladies' Championship!
EpicDave: That should be a terrific match. The
Ring Of Honor Heavyweight Championship is also on the line in a Triple Threat Match!
CW ANDERSON holds the title, and both
JAY WHITE and
JAY LETHAL are gunning for him!
Velvet: And what I am really looking forward to is the
Money In The Bank Match! All those ladders, tables, chairs- and bodies flying everywhere. And the winner gets a title match for the ROH Championship!
EpicDave: Yes, it is going to be a spectacular show from start to finish. Three title matches, plus the Ladder Match and a whole lot more. We're gonna rock Detroit City, fans- so relax, grab yourself a cold one, and enjoy the show!
Heartland Ladies’ Tag Team Championship: #1 Contenders’ MatchREGENERATION X (ALLISON DANGER & LEVA BATES) vs. MADE IN SIN (ALLYSIN KAY & TAYLOR MADE)The opening matchup was a spirited contest with a title shot on the line. Danger and Leva had success with double-team moves against Taylor, but when Allysin Kay hit the ring she took over with a powerful Discus Lariat on Leva. Made In Sin kept the momentum, working together effectively and finishing off Danger with the Eighth Deadly Sin.
WINNERS: MADE IN SINVelvet: Wow! Taylor and Allysin looked great in that match- and they have earned a title shot against
SHAYNA BASZLER & NICOLE SAVOY. But Shayna and Nicole are the most awesome tag team in the Ladies' Division, and Made in Sin is going to have to be their absolute best to win the titles.
Heartland Ladies’ Championship: #1 Contenders’ MatchKELLY KLEIN vs. LUFISTOPlenty of fireworks in the Number One Contender's match! The brawling began even before the opening bell with a sneak attack by Lufisto. Lufisto nailed Kelly with a spinning backfist as the opening bell rang, and went right to a rear naked choke. Kelly powered out of the choke and the match spilled out to the arena floor. Kelly drove her knee deep into the abdomen of Lufisto, taking the breath out of the Canadian. Action returned to the ring, where Klein powered Lufisto to the mat with a side backbreaker, then delivered a textbook Fisherman's Suplex to score a clean pin.
WINNER: KELLY KLEINEpicDave: What a slugfest that was! Lufisto brought her best shots, but Kelly just overpowered Lufisto like nothing I have ever seen.
Velvet: That's why Kelly is so awesome- and still undefeated in Heartland Ladies' Wrestling. Whoever comes out of tonight with the
Heartland Ladies' Championship is going to have a rough match waiting for them when Kelly Klein comes calling.
EpicDave: All right, fans- next up, we will finally crown new
Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions. The team of
REDRAGON tried to steal the belts, but right has prevailed and reDRagon is out of the tournament. Two very similar teams of brothers have made it to the finals, and now the Crist Brothers and the Briscoe Brothers are ready to battle for the belts!
Ring of Honor Tag Team ChampionshipOI4K vs. THE BRISCOE BROTHERSChaos continued in the Tag Team Division! The Briscoes and OI4K went back and forth for several minutes of closely matched action. Mark Briscoe blazed through both Crist brothers until Dave finally bailed out of the ring. Mark went airborne with a somersault plancha which wiped out both Dave and Jake.
Velvet: Whoa! That was sweet!
No sooner did Mark get to his feet than
KYLE O'REILLY & BOBBY FISH appeared at ringside! Mark threw hands with both members of reDRagon as Jay dashed across the ring to defend his brother. But the fans were shocked when Jake Crist intercepted Jay with a kick to the head. Jay went down, and both Crist Brothers put the boots to Jay! Jake picked up one of the tag belts and walloped Jay across the side of the head! Jay was busted open, but came up swinging. Jay nailed Dave Crist with a stiff right hand, but Jake caught Jay from behind with a backstabber that put Jay out of commission.
EpicDave: What? What is going on here? OI4K is in on the attack!
Mark managed to nail both members of reDRagon with a double clothesline, then grabbed a steel chair and slide into the ring. OI4K scattered, and Mark tended to Jay Briscoe who was dazed and bloodied in the ring.
WINNERS (by disqualification): THE BRISCOE BROTHERSThe referee disqualified OI4K and awarded the belts to the Briscoes, but Jay and Mark threw the belts out of the ring and refused to be crowned as champions.
THE RING OF HONOR TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP REMAINS VACANT
EpicDave: Wow. I am not sure what just happened! Did OI4K just side with Team Takeover? Whatever just went down- OI4K has been disqualified but the Briscoe Brothers have refused to accept the belts. Once again confusion reigns supreme here in the Ring Of Honor Tag Team division. We'll need to find a way to sort this out- but fans- the show must go on. And the rest of tonight's broadcast will be live on the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network!
Heartland Ladies’ ChampionshipSHERRI MARTEL (c) vs. CHEERLEADER MELISSAThe ladies' title match was an exciting back-and-forth battle with lots of action inside the ring and out. Melissa roughed up Sherri with a Samoan drop and an Air Raid Crash, but Sherri fought back aggressively. Action spilled out of the ring repeatedly, and it was Sherri who proved to be the tougher lady when the brawling went to the arena floor. After stunning Melissa with a stiff knee to the gut, Sherri pitched Melissa back into the ring and connected with a Top Rope Splash for the pin.
WINNER: SHERRI MARTELSHERRI MARTEL RETAINS THE HEARTLAND LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP
EpicDave: Congratulations to Sherri Martel for a very tough victory!
Velvet: Right? Those two beat the daylights out of each other! I'm glad I wasn't in the middle of that beating!
EpicDave: Me too. But give credit to Sherri- she turned back the challenge of a former nine-time Heartland Ladies' Champion and will leave Detroit with the
Heartland Ladies' Championship still around her waist. All right, fans- spring is here, and it's time for our annual
Money In The Bank Ladder Match!Money In The Bank Ladder MatchADAM COLE * BRYAN DANIELSON * KENNY OMEGACODY RHODES * DONOVAN DIJAK * ACHThe Ladder Match turned into a faction war as Cole and Dijak worked together on behalf of Team Takeover. ACH was spectacular in the early going, drilling Cody with the Best 450 Ever. But ACH was unable to set up the ladder and the match continued. Danielson and Dijak battled it out as Cole tried to bring the ladder into the ring. Cody recovered to knock Cole out of the ring and the ladder fell harmlessly to the floor. Omega tried to set up a table, only two be interrupted by Dijak. Omega got the jump on Dijak and dropped Dijak with a DDT! Danielson brought a chair into the ring, but ACH speared Danielson and sent the chair flying!
Velvet: What action!
Omega caught Danielson with a twisting suplex, leading to a terrific series of moves and countermoves. Neither man could get the ladder set up, and Danielson flung Omega out of the ring and obliterated Kenny with a Suicide Dive! ACH and Cody got into a battle over custody of a steel chair, and a running spear from ACH took both men through the ropes. Cole took advantage of the situation, setting up the ladder! ACH tried to put Cole through a table in the ring, but Cole reversed the move and suplexed ACH through the table! With Dijak standing guard, Cole was able to scurry up the ladder and retrieve the contract and claim the victory!
WINNER: ADAM COLEEpicDave: Congratulations to
ADAM COLE, your winner of the
2020 Money In The Bank Ladder Match! It was an action-packed match, but Cole and Dijak worked together perfectly to set up the opportunity for Cole to climb the ladder and grab the contract. He has earned a title shot against the winner of tonight's Main Event!
Main Event: Ring of Honor Heavyweight Championship: Triple Threat MatchCW ANDERSON (c) vs. JAY WHITE vs. JAY LETHALIt was a battle for the ages in the triple threat match as all three men went for broke. There were no allegiances and it was every man for himself from the opening moment. Despite wrestling injured, Lethal was on his game. White was the aggressor for most of the match, launching himself with spectacular suicide dives onto both men. Anderson picked his spots, roughing up both men with stiff left hands. Lethal surprised both opponents with submission holds, which did plenty of damage in spite of not forcing either man to tap. Anderson took several brutal submissions from both White and Lethal and began to weaken. Anderson went after White on the arena floor, and Lethal took to the air and wiped out both opponents! Lethal rolled Anderson back into the ring and drilled him with the Lethal Injection! White was unable to get back into the ring, and Lethal made the cover for the win!
WINNER: JAY LETHALJAY LETHAL CAPTURES THE RING OF HONOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
After the match, ADAM COLE & DONOVAN DIJAK rushed the ring! Lethal was fatigued and it looked like he was in serious danger, but referees poured in from backstage and prevented the members of Takeover from attacking the champion. Velvet: Whoa! That was a close call for Jay Lethal!
EpicDave: Thanks goodness that we have a top notch security staff here in the Heartland. That could have turned ugly! But fans- congratulations to
JAY LETHAL- your new
Ring Of Honor Heavyweight Champion! Despite the leg injury, Lethal came through in the clutch and took advantage of the opportunity to grab the victory and the title! What a fantastic conclusion to an exciting broadcast if
