Hey everyone. I just restarted my fed again and am having trouble deciding on when to crown my IP champion. I'm about a third of the way through 2087 and I'm thinking about holding two round-robin tournaments of 4 wrestlers each with the winners facing each other over the next few game months, but I started the year with the tournament for the Galaxian title and this tournament will become an annual thing. Not for the Galaxian title, just a tournament to start off the year. So my question is should I go ahead and decide the IP champion now, or wait until the beginning of 2088?

The conventional wisdom is to wait until 2088 or 2089, but I say to go ahead and do it now, and here's why: it will give some guys a shot at singles gold who, once Invasion comes and goes, will either be permanently married to the tag team ranks (Actagon, Proteus, Brute, Massacre) or will be shuffled to the bottom of the rankings because the new talents are simply so much better (Commander Sam, Ghengis Khan, Executioner, Killer Queen).
Some of my favorite memories from when I still played a GWF fed involved Actagon taking a run at a singles title while Proteus was out with a long-term injury. Ditto for Massacre (2087 card), while Brute and Spike held the tag team titles.
Lord Nexus/Krakan/Massacre/Actagon would make an awfully interesting round robin bracket, I think, maybe with Massif/Exo-King/Commander Sam/Comrade Terror in the other bracket. The winners face off for the IP title, while Star Warrior, Thantos, and Wolf remain "above" such petty nonsense and go after the big belt.

I would have said wait until 2088 or 2089…but Poisoned Shadows makes a great case for having the tourney now (great post BTW P.S., this one and the other one about Actagon’s singles run). By the time 2089/90 rolls around, guys like Commander Sam, Khan and even Actagon (if your not careful) get lost in the shuffle a bit…so why not give them their potential moment in the sun now?
Its very refreshing to see intelligent and friendly conversation here…
More please!

I don't even recall when i started the I-P title, but i would say wait for the right time, maybe work it into a storyline somehow.

My question isn't so much about the timing of introducing the belt, but I think that deciding the belt at the beginning of the year tournament would add more prestige to the tournament. Sorry for the confusion.

Ooooohhhhh....
In that case, yes--I'd say it would make the tournament more prestigious. You could even make it an annual thing, where the winner gets an automatic IP shot, or even put the IP champ in automatically, and have the title on the line in EVERY match the champion (or new champion, if he gets beat) is in.
It would certainly shake things up.

Hmm, the tournament is an interesting idea. I think I might have to do that. Great idea Poisoned Shadows.

i started with the NB and immediately done tournaments running upto the first main event for all my titles . Whats happened though is in the final Tauran v Valour , Tauran has won via dq and that has upset Valour and turned him a tad nasty haha . Not only have i got a champion but i have turned Valour heel and potentially started a tasty new feud with lots of "special" matches .

In 2087 I crowned all my champions (Galaxian, Galaian Tag Team, & Interplanetary) at my first pay-per-view.

I started playing again a year ago and ran my fed as the EGW (Extreme Galactic Wrestling) using mostly the NB set. I grew tired of this and had the carry-over GWF stars (from the origional set and some classics) led by my personal fav, Comrade Terror, start a resistance which turned into a federation war - won by the GWF. my fed became GWF again and I had to crown new champions as the GWF did not recodnize the EGW titles. Here is how i did this, maybe one of my ides will help you:
Had a 32-man double elemination tourniment for the Galaxian title
Had a 20-man battle royal with the final two having a singles match for the IP title
Had an 8-team "tag team turmoil" match for the Tag Titles
I found these 3 different methods helped keep the crowning of my new champions fresh as tourniments can grow tired after a while if you have too many of them too frequently.
