I will say its really hard to find good reference materials for guys. For LOTF3 I spent a while on each guy. You can tell which ones I had better references for. Eddie Edwards I worked on for hours and it was still tough to find a good one. I think overall Steve did an awesome job on the set.
I really hope this inst the last set Steve does for LOW and LOTF as he brings a lot to the quality of the set.

I don't have any of the LOTF sets yet but Mr. Stanley was responsible for Exotic Adrian Street as noted and that card is just awesome. Please reconsider staying aboard and don't let one negative review ruin a good thing. By the way, I will be purchasing the LOTF sets when I can find some spare cash

I have admired Mr. Stanley's art since WAY before he started working with Filsinger Games. Along with the amazing talent of Darryl Banks and the sizable contributions of Werner, we have the greatest set of artists working for Filsinger Games by a country mile. Bar none. Not even a topic for debate in my book. You guys who've been around a while know I've done a lot of fan art for Legends Of Wrestling (in fact, there's a whole site of it still up on Angelfire). Believe me when I say this quote sums it up beautifully. Reference: Since my job is to capture a wrestler's likeness, I work a lot from photographs. Keep in mind, not every wrestler has the best gallery of photography available. You can look for hours, if not days for images. Again, since I'm trying to capture a likeness, I'd like to work from the best shot(s) of the athlete the FG guys can find. Sometimes though, a particular wrestling pose just isn't available. Sometimes I work literally from postage stamp sizes pieces of reference. ( Is that a nose, or the guy's knee?) Sometimes shots are too dark, or too light, and as a result, I'm blind to some much needed details. Combine any one of these handicaps, along with not being all that familiar with a particular wrestler, and the product quality will fall into question. And Budget. If I had my choice, I'd shoot my own pics of the athletes, with the right light, right stance, with a quality camera and then spend a few days drawing each persona. Unfortunately though, I just don't have those kinds of luxuries. Bottom line: As an artist, you do the best you can, with the resources you're provided. ----------------- I have spent hours on end looking for the right reference shots for some wrestlers, or even anything usable at all. Often there's nothing good at all to use, and that is true times three for independent wrestlers who comprise the lineup for the Legends Of The Future sets. Most of the time they have nothing up but very low-res, amateur candids from matches, or very poorly lit posed shots. I feel for Mr. Stanley in this regard, as I know how frustrating it can be to just try to draw some of these guys FOR FUN. I cannot imagine how nerve-racking it must be to try to get it done as part of a paid job! Look at what some of the art we've seen in the past, and compare it to the work of Steve Stanley. In my mind you can't because there is no comparison. There've been some good drawings by good artists in previous editions, but to me Legends Of the Future this year looks MILES ahead of the previous two sets.

Mark, totally agree with Banks and Stanley being the top notch of the line for both sets. You summed it up well. I have spent hours on end looking for the right reference shots for some wrestlers, or even anything usable at all. Often there's nothing good at all to use, and that is true times three for independent wrestlers who comprise the lineup for the Legends Of The Future sets. What is strange about that, and I can agree, is it would seem with the technology available, there WOULD be better pics for today's guys. ...Legends Of the Future this year looks MILES ahead of the previous two sets. This quote is the best statement from this board in months.

allow FG to encourage other talents to pop in and lend their skills to the product. There's nothing wrong with that and it helps the product stay sharp. Anyway, some really good stuff to think about. That's all. I would like to see Stanley stick around for sure, but we all know that each artist brings something different to the cards and I've liked for the most part each artist who has worked on these cards from the first edition to the current and artists come and go like in the Comic Book business and we'll see new one's with FG as he have from day one with the FG product. But for now Stanley needs to stay on with LotF and LoW for the next several game editions...

Eddie Edwards I worked on for hours and it was still tough to find a good one. One technique that may help is to convert video images into JPEG or TIFFs. Most of these wrestlers have footage available on sites like Youtube. By searching out videos for the wrestler, you can usually find a lot of good shots from the entrance. Just play the video, pause it, make the image full screen and then capture it by hitting the Print Screen key. This will save the image you cherry pic onto your clipboard. From there: Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint, Edit and Paste. Then 'Save as' whatever name and format you want. Your universe is any digital image that you choose to convert. You could even play a Chikara DVD and do quick captures based on the entrances or anything else that looks good.

So, who do i see about Rahl Ratings for our latest set?
I've apparently not quite mastered it, as my numbers keep not matching the ones posted in the thread for the last two sets, so I've resolved not to bother with the new ones. I would still, however, like to know where they rate.
