As we head into this match, Junkyard Dog and Mr Olympia are the Mid-South Tag Team Champions defending the titles against Ted DiBiase and Matt Borne. The match is No Disqualification and the loser of the fall must leave Mid-South Wrestling for 90 days. Here is part one of the match:

The conclusion:
This would lead to the forming of the Rat Pack as well as the introduction of Stagger Lee (JYD under a mask).

Ahhhh Bill Watt's Mid South... This is what got me loving wrestling as a kid. That match is one of my first Mid-South memories along with Ted DiBiase turning heel on JYD. Great memories from an awesome promotion.

Watts had some great names come through Mid-South and Mid-South was where many guys really made their breakout like Magnum TA, Rock-n-Roll Express, Midnight Express, Hacksaw Duggan, Kamala, just to name a few.

More of Hacksaw Duggan as a heel. Here on Southwest Championship Wrestling against Bruiser Brody.

When Georgia Championship Wrestling first appeared in my area, Roddy Piper was top heel on the show. He would join Gordon Solie on commentary, he would attack baby faces from behind, badmouth Tommy Rich, Dusty Rhodes, Bob Armstrong and any other fan favorites.
Well, on a trip between shows, Piper stopped in at one of those all night convenient stores and ended up in a confrontation with a man threatening a couple of boys with a knife. Piper disarmed the man but received quite the slice across his chest in the process.
Then word got out what had happened. PWI reported on it. The local news where it happened got a hold of the story. Suddenly, Piper was done as a heel. Fans could not boo a guy who got stabbed while protecting young boys from a knife-wielding maniac.
So....
Piper would become a top face in GCW and then Mid-Atlantic before heading to the WWF, where the hero story was unknown, and return to being the heel he was so good at being.

Piper always had something special. I enjoyed his heel work more so then when he played face...but either way he was an incredible draw. Truly an amazing all around performer!
