I bag on TNA a lot and for good reason so to be fair got to give them props when due (I think this is the first time actually)
Robert Roode won TNA's version of the 12 Large Summit and will face the pill popping, drunk driving Kurt Angle at the big PPV for the belt (assuming Angle is not in jail or dead by then).
In the WWE Roode would head to FCW, eventually be brought up and maybe win the US Title assuming all went well for him. In TNA he's the best they've got. He has (or at least at one point seemed to have) potential. Can TNA utilize it? Or would it only come out with help from the WWE machine?
I guess we're going to find out. It's kind of hard to watch TNA "try" to present this guy as Star Warrior all of a sudden without any real build up. Maybe I'm wrong but it didn't seem like they built him up very well in this tournament thing. Seems like all of a sudden he was just in the final four out of nowhere? Then they give him the total babyface star treatment and everyone just kind of stood around not sure what to think. Either way, what's done is done and he's in position to be the first TNA original to hold the belt since Hogan and Bischoff came aboard.
TNA doesn't have a lot of options. I think they gotta put the belt on him. Put him over Angle, Anderson, Sting, RVD, Hardy all those guys. Give him a super strong reign that lasts all year where he beats all these old WWE guys and really emphasize that he is a TNA original. And either keep him a face or turn him heel at the PPV when he wins the belt. But whatever he is when he wins it keep him that. No stupid swerves or joining stables either. Just one dude, with the belt beating everyone clean all year. They're going to get 1.1 ratings no matter what they do. Might as well try to build a new guy while you're spinning your wheels.
