Card 1.4: Downsview Park Hanger Sports and Recreational Facility, Toronto: Havoc in the Hanger
Match 1: Ricky Landell v. Dupea Rupa w/Eddie Fyne
Last card Landell picked up a big win over the Belgian Brawler and Fyne demanded an immediate rematch and Commissioner Cox signed the bout. Rupa gets the advantage early on with his power and picks up a couple of near falls after a series of modified chokeholds. Landell is able to turn things around when his Irish whips Rupa into the ring post and the match evens out. Rupa catches Landell on the top of the corner and tosses him to the mat but then misses his own deathjump smash seconds later giving Landell his first pin attempt of the match. Landell goes for the win after a FISHERMAN’S BUSTER but Fyne is able to cause a distraction keeping the match going. Landell hits a missile dropkick and ends it with a second FISHERMAN’S BUSTER. (Landell 7; Rupa 9) *** ½
Match 2: Heartbreak Xpress w/Larry Sweeney v. Young Bucks
The fans are all over Sweeney and the Xpress as they come to the ring. Nick Jackson starts off against Phil Davis and flips him to the mat with a headscissors takedown which prompts Davis to tag out right away. Sean Davis sends Jackson into the ropes and the Young Buck rebounds with a cross body block for a near fall. The Xpress again tag and Phil Davis uses a foreign object to stop Jackson in his tracks. The referee sees it however and calls for the disqualification. It looks like the Xpress want to give the Bucks a beat down after the bell but the Bucks recover quickly and clear the ring with a series of dropkicks. (S. Davis 6; P. Davis 3; N. Match 3: Larry Sweeney v. Jigsaw
Sweeney is back for his own match this time and draws great heat when he jars with the fans. This one belonged to Jigsaw from the outset and a series of wheelbarrow slams sets up a missile dropkick for the quick win. (Sweeney 5; Jigsaw 4) dud
Match 4: Team FIST v. Osirian Portal
These two teams know each other well after spending time together in Chikara. The fans are split on this one but turn on the Portal in the bout when Amasis uses a series of mule kicks to the groin and chokes on Icarus. The action goes back and forth. There is solid spot where Amasis dives out of the ring onto Gran Akuma at ringside. Ohidian takes two PEDIGREES but manages to get his shoulder up at the last second each time. The match builds from this point and Icarus gets himself in trouble against and Akuma saves him after an OSIRIAN SACRAMENT and an EGYPTIAN CONNIPTION. However, a second EGYPTIAN CONNIPTION is too much and gives the Portal the win. (Akuma 3; Icarus 8; Ohidian 5; Amasis 4) ****
Match 5: Brodie Lee v. Drake Younger
The fans are expecting chaos with these two hard hitters in the ring. This one does not go long but is intense. Younger hits DRAKE’S LANDING very early and the crowd explodes. Brodie kicks out at the last possible second. Brodie counters an elbow strike with a series of chops and hits a BIG BOOT out of nowhere for a near fall. Younger kicks out after a second BIG BOOT but cannot survive three in a row. (Lee 5; Younger 6) **
Match 6: Ontario Tag Team Title Match – AC/DC (ch) v. Backseat Boyz
The fans give both teams a solid reaction when they are introduced. This is a rematch of the tournament final from card number two in Kitchener. Claudio Castagnoli gets Johnny Kashmere in trouble early with a slingshot into the ring post which busts Kashmere wide open. Kashmere kicks out after an Alphamare Waterslide and the gets trapped in the ropes. Castagnoli goes to work on Kashmere with a series of punches and then shoves the referee to the mat when the official steps in to break up the attack. The referee disqualifies the champions. Castagnoli continues to hammer away on Kashmere while Trent Acid and Arik Cannon brawl on the floor. Acid gets the best of Cannon and then grabs a chair. AC/DC wisely retreat to the back drawing great heat. (Acid 4; Kashmere 5; Cannon 4; Castagnoli 3) * ½
Match 7: Lumberjack Match – Eddie Kingston w/ Jigsaw, Drake Younger & Naptown Dragons v. Delirious w/Brodie Lee, Necro Butcher, Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black
Delirious looks good from the outset and has Kingston reeling after 20 clotheslines in corner. Kingston is able to make a comeback with a press slam and then tosses Delirious out to the Naptown Dragons to do some damage. A few minutes later Kingston tosses Delirious out to the lumberjacks again and a wild brawl erupts at ringside. The referee has lost control and has no choice but to call the match and rule it a no contest. (Kingston 3; Delirious 3) *
Match 8: Ontario Championship Match – Mike Quackenbush (ch) v. Adam Pearce w/Eddie Fyne
Great heat for Pearce as he led to the ring by Elegant Eddie Fyne. This one is intense from the outset. Quackenbush’s speed is the difference early on and allows him to hit a tilt-a-whril back breaker followed by running palm strikes. Peace survives a QUACKENDRIVER I kicking out at 2 ½. Pearce regains control outside and then whips the champion with a strap. The fans are all over Scrap Iron who then plants Quackenbush with a JUMPING PILEDRIVER for a 2 ¾ count. Pearce then attacks the neck with three consecutive short-arm clotheslines before winning the title with a second JUMPIING PILEDRIVER. Fyne jumps into the ring to celebrate and Commissioner Cox arrives and officially presents Pearce with the Title Belt. (Quackenbush 6; Pearce 5) ** ½
News & Views: Scrap Iron Adam Pearce is your new champion after a hard fought win over Mike Quackenbush. Some were upset over Pearce’s use of the strap during the bout but the finish of the mat was clear in any event. No doubt Quackenbush will be looking a rematch in the near future . . . Young Bucks were not impressed after their match with the Heartbreak Xpress and have demanded another bout with the Xpress . . . Ricky Landell continues to look impressive and may be ready to move up the rankings . . . Delirious and Eddie Kingston continue their battle which has turning into an epic feud . . . Johnny Kashmere was an absolute bloody mess after the Backseat Boyz disqualification win over the Tag Team Champions and has demanded a one on one match with Claudio Castagnoli.
