Just a few days after winning the WS, Tony LaRussa retired today.
Never had a problem with the man, he just happened to manage 2 of the most hated teams for me in the Pale Sox and Cards.

A perfect time to go out on Top and he is a Hall of Famer for sure, I never had issue with him and I think he is just one of those Managers who is a Good Guy for most of his career...

Best way to go, out on top though apparently he was retiring either way.

I think it is a credit to the cardinals that everyone knew about this a month prior to the playoffs and were able to use it to band together and get on a roll instead of packing it in and taking the early vacation.

From 1981-1989, I lived in Tacoma where the local baseball team was the Tacoma Tigers- the AAA team for the Oakland As.
As a result, I was a fan of the As and their manager Tony LaRussa in the 1980s as I enjoyed seeing players such as Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Walt Weiss, Jose Rijo, Stan Javier, and Luis Polonia first play for Tacoma and then play with success for the As under LaRussa.
No better way to leave after 33 years then with a 3rd World Series victory, although I will personally always best remember LaRussa's 1989 title with Oakland. LaRussa also revolutionized the way bullpens are used today and should be in the Hall of Fame soon after he becomes eligible.
