Lost-Found Stars of the Classics Era FAQ
What Is L-FSCE?
Lost-Found Stars of the Classics Era (aka L-FSCE) is a project that serves as an 'ongoing' supplement to the existing GWF Classics Sets. As an ongoing process, L-FSCE is designed to enhance the quality of i. The Official FG Message Board, ii. Promoter Online and iii. CotG Online.
i. L-FSCE Forum: this section will host quarterly board contests, the L-FSCE Video Library and supplemental material that is designed to help people who are committed to playing out the 13 Year Golden Age of the GWF.
ii. Promoter Online: with each issue of the Promoter Online, subscribers will have access to PDF versions of the wrestlers in the L-FSCE set. The set has been structured in such a way that releases can and will will be made on an ongoing basis. Subscribers will also have access to fully expanded bios, charts and other supplemental material.
iii. CotG Online: on a periodic basis, wrestlers from the L-FSCE will be made available for future use with CotG Online. This will occur 'sometime in the future'.
How Does L-FSCE Work?
L-FSCE reverse engineers the concept of the wrestling landscape as it existed in the 13 years of 2074-86 on a 'galactic' level. This process moves the GWF Classics Sets from a 'closed system' to an open system. Doing this introduces into GWF Classics an element similar to the territory system of the National Wrestling Alliance and the national expansion era of the World Wrestling Federation. Under this paradigm many smaller promotions exist 'outside' the GWF at a lesser level. Each of these Feds have unique styles and impressive pieces of talent on their roster. As a GWF promoter you will have the creative option of 'bringing in' talent from the outside to whatever extent doing so fits the niche you envision for your Fed.
In contrast to the traditional top down 'writer says/player follows' approach, each promoter will have full latitude in customizing their booking strategy with regards to time (when to bring in talent), duration (one shot, strategic run, full time) or even to pass on using a particular wrestler entirely. This has the advantage of avoiding the problem of 'roster creep' (where an 'official' roster size may grow too large to be functionally practical for the needs of the Promoter).
Those focused exclusively on playing out GWF Classics 'without' use of this set will not find any game history that has been officially re-written. This is an optional supplement to the original material, not a formal revision of events. L-FSCE has no interest in canon for canon's sake.
Components
* Statistical Transparency: in contrast to standard CotG Game Editions that are formatted with 'official' debut dates and set annual rosters, the talent in this set will be presented with a Booker's Strategy Report. This is a conceptual tool designed to allow Promoters to compare and contrast how each wrestler from the L-FSCE could best fit into their Fed 'before' introducing them. (ie. Wrestler X may not be a good fit for your plans in mid 2080, but could fit well into the mix of the first quarter of 2081). Booking a promotion over a 13 year period is quite a challenge, this guide helps to add a 'thinking man's element' to the debut process.
* Old School Card Mechanics: these cards have been designed to be compatible with the other GWF Classics retro sets. There are no Add 1 Moves. You will not find three finishers on Level 3 Offense. There is no one who is statistically 'better' than Omega. These cards are fully playable with the previous cards of the era.
* Multitude of Styles: the focus of the card content is on wrestling moves and combat sports. This includes elements of contemporary WWE Main Event Style, Lucha Libre, King's Road, Memphis Southern, New Japan Juniors, UWFi, World of Sport, Muay Thai, Vale Tudo, Jiu Jitsu, Sport Grappling and even Comedy. Offensive arsenals do not contain 'magic' or 'sci-fi' elements. The focus is on real world athleticism.
Moving From Static to Dynamic
One of the goals of L-FSCE is to embrace and preserve an 'open system' for players looking for a chronological start point for the GWF. This will allow the Classics Era to avert the drawbacks inherent in being confined to a creative dead end. One of the drawbacks to having CotG sets released sequentially in a serialized format is that time relegates past editions to a state of gridlock.
Booking is a forward looking process, yet players entering 'older sets' do not enjoy the same potentialities of those players who are using sets that evolve in real time. The story arcs have already been written, 'official' rosters/future events are already set in stone and 'what comes next' has already happened. In the context of a game that has imagination & creativity as a core selling point, a rigid adherence to preserving 'canon' can all too easily become an impractical albatross, stifling the potential of the very material such visions are intended to serve.
L-FSCE is a resource that is designed to allow the GWF Classics 'brand' to retain the same elements of 'surprise' and 'possibility' that players of 'real time' GWF, aCe and POW editions experience. Players old and new can jump in and use it as a supplement to any other existing GWF Classics set. Its composition isn't limited or 'set' by game year, talent is released into the 'era' for each promoter to chose among & use as they please.
The release of new wrestlers into the L-FSCE will be an ongoing process. There is no 'end' to a discovery process focused on an infinite periphery. In the same token, no two GWF Classics Feds ever need to look 'the same'. The format is not designed to produce 'cookie cutter' results, it is solely up to each promoter to decide how much depth and history they want to build into the experience.
Grassroots Creative Development
L-FSCE is a collaborative effort that would not exist without the contributions of some very generous and gifted members of the FG Community. These are people who took time out their busy schedules to develop characters, create bios, oversee artwork, draft preliminary stats and design videos for each of the wrestlers in this set. They did so with no other compensation than the knowledge that it would benefit the project and the community. It is their diverse visions and unique talents that have made this set possible.
I want to publicly thank Lord Rahl for his invaluable help in spot checking & grading each of the cards. Werner Mueck for his stellar artistic contributions. Lucas "Mr. Beefy" Morris for his impressive A/V skills. Creative Team Members: Aaron 'Chewey' Chiu, Andrew Comte, Big Bri, Cory Olson, Curt Ligot, Graymar, Jim Karantonis, Joe Scully, Jon Knapik, Ray DeGarmo, Tommy Brownell & Troy Xavier. Each one is truly a class act!
The Future
Going forward opportunities will arise for others to contribute to the project. Look for quarterly contests on the Official Message Board which will focus on the development of new wrestlers, territories, specialty matches and various other elements that can further enrich the process.
I have always believed that the greatest asset FG possesses is the creativity & ingenuity of its community members. I'm confident that the output of the contributors to L-FSCE will stand as testament to that, and I invite you to consider contributing to this project's continued development.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy what is to come!
