The Major League Wrestling Arena
Las Vegas, NV
(Second Third of show, First Third is posted above)
(Promoter's note: All match ratings are based on a 4 star rating system)Match# 5: Intercontinental Champion The Sheik (managed by Abdullah Farouk) defeated Mil Mascaras in a no DQ match.- Mascaras looked impressive in this match and repeatedly came very close to winning the Intercontinental Championship, but The Sheik (whose PIN went from 1 all the way to 10 in this match) kept managing to kick out right before the 3 count. Mascaras controlled about 95% of the action, but the end came when Mascaras threw The Sheik outside of the ring where The Sheik, with no possibility of getting DQd in this match, rammed the time keeper's belt straight into Mascaras' throat. The Sheik then threw Mascaras back into the ring where, directly in front of the referee, he unleashed a FIREBALL and the referee had no choice but to make the 3 count and award the match to The Sheik. Mascaras still doesn't win his first MLW title. ***1/2
At the Bar: At the bar inside the Gardunos restaurant that is part of The Major League Wrestling Arena, Yukon Eric is sitting with Cousin Luke and Ida Mae Martinez as they're eating chips and salsa while waiting for their meal to arrive.
- Martinez: "Yukon Eric, do you want some of my sauce?"
- Suddenly, they are approached by Rick Rude.
- Rude: "Ida, you still owe me one night with you. Why don't we start off with you giving me a lap dance right here in this restaurant?"
- Martinez: "I think I'm going to have to give you a rain check."
- Rude (taking out a small black book): "OK, but I have a book and every chick I meet goes into this book. And you're going into the book. But in your case, I'm afraid I'll have to file you under chicken poop."
- Martinez: "Oh yeah, and what if I did it?"
- Rude: "Well then I couldn't file you under chicken poop, now can I?"
(Anyone know where some of those lines came from?
)
- Martinez: "Rude, you conned me into making that deal with you and I never said it would be tonight at Summer Slam. Why don't you leave so we can eat our food?"
- Rude gets ready to leave but then suddenly grabs Yukon Eric and give him a RUDE AWAKENING right onto the restaurant floor before departing.
Backstage: Rob Van Dam is getting ready for his match against EAWA General Manager/EAWA Champion the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase when he is approached by the Double Axe Attack.
- The Double Axe Attack offer to accompany RVD to ringside to counterbalance the presence of King Kong Bundy and Virgil in DiBiase's corner and RVD accepts the offer.
Match #6: RVD (accompanied by the Double Axe Attack) defeated EAWA General Manager/EAWA Champion the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase (accompanied by King Kong Bundy and Virgil). - This match was RVD's in-ring MLW debut match.
- A great match and a match of the year candidate with numerous pin/submission attempts by both RVD and DiBiase.
- At one point, the EAWA Tag Team Champions the Valiants came down to ringside. Because they've always been fan favorites in Major League Wrestling, the Valiants' presence wasn't challenged by the Double Axe Attack. When RVD hit DiBiase with a FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH in the corner next to the Double Axe Attack and the Valiants, it looked like the match was over until the Valiants shocked everyone by jumping into the ring to interfere on DiBiase's behalf which, because of the extreme rules nature of all EAWA matches, the referee was powerless to stop. As the Valiants exited the ring on the side of Bundy and Virgil, Virgil gave them handfuls of cash as the crowd booed because one of their favorite tag teams just sold out to DiBiase. The Double Axe Attack then came around the ring and brawled to the back with the Valiants leaving Bundy and Virgil in DiBiase's corner and nobody in RVD's corner.
- Later in the match, RVD was suddenly attacked by the Iron Sheik. Taking advantage of the the Double Axe Attack no longer being at ringside, the Iron Sheik apparently was showing his frustration at RVD taking his title shot away from him at the end of last week's episode of EAWA and placed RVD in the CAMEL CLUTCH before leaving.
- Later in the match, RVD apparently had DiBiase pinned via Rolling Thunder, but Virgil placed DiBiase's foot on the ropes. RVD then went outside and threw Virgil a steel chair and gave him the Van Daminator and then did the same to Bundy!
- The match finally ended when DiBiase threw RVD into the turnbuckle and charged after him. But RVD got out of the way and DiBiase crashed hard into the turnbuckle and back onto the mat where an exhausted RVD fell backward and, while hooking DiBiase's leg, counted 1, 2, 3, in the air with his fingers in concert with the referee doing the same 3 count on the mat to win the match and win the EAWA Championship in his very first match here in Major League Wrestling! ****
Match #7: Road Warriors defeated MLW Tag Team Champions the Fabulous Kangaroos (managed by Captain Kangaroo) in a non-title match- The Road Warriors won when Road Warrior Animal pinned Roy Heffernan via the DOOMSDAY DEVICE as the Kangaroos suffer a rare defeat since winning the MLW Tag Team Championship almost 1 year ago at Unforgiven. ** 1/2
- This was just the 2nd ever one on one MLW PPV matchup between the Kangaroos and the Road Warriors who are now both 1-1 against each other with the Kangaroos victory over the Road Warriors taking place at No Way Out 2007.
- But despite their victory tonight, the Road Warriors do not win the MLW Tag Team Championship because it was a non-title inter-promotional match as Summer Slam is one of the few nights of the year where wrestlers from different brands can wrestle against each other (in this case the Kangaroos from RAW vs the Road Warriors from Smackdown).
End of Second Third. Third Third will be posted next and includes MLW Champion George Hackenschmidt vs Buddy Rogers, World Champion Bruiser Brody vs Frank Gotch vs Harley Race, and MLW Chairman Bruno Sammartino vs Nick Bockwinkel in a steel cage match!
