TTX , Pariah , cruefan68 - So, there seems to be a swell of support for Affluence regaining the tag team titles. We'll see how they do on the next show. And Crue, I'm afraid I have to shoot down a Beretta/Cheeseburger rematch. That match was a real stinker aside from the highlights I posted. Usually when I call a match a draw it's because it got boring. Now it's time for some more action and further developments as we approach the end of the season and Final Battle. Thanks for following along everyone!
RING OF HONOR TELEVISION
2017 Season Episode 29 Silas Young def. Shane Taylor by submission Silas made short work of Taylor, tapping him out with a Stock Lock after a dominating performance. A dejected Taylor lingered in the ring a while afterward. ROH World Champion Adam Cole and Matt Taven were on a pre-taped promo promising Affluence would reclaim the ROH World Tag Team Championship from ANX next week on Ring of Honor Television. At the conclusion of the promo, Veda Scott stepped in. “What, Veda?" Adam groused. "You want us to do another take? I thought that one was great.”“No, it's fine," Veda replied with some exacerbation. "We need to talk about something else.”“Ooo. Sounds serious. Matt, can you give us a minute?”Taven took his leave. “Adam, your contract is up at the end of the year. We need to get you into the office to sign a new one.”“There’ll be plenty of time for that later. Right now, I need to concentrate on winning the tag team titles. We can ‘negotiate’ my contract after that,” Cole concluded with a wink. Adam stepped off camera wearing a smirk. By the set of Veda’s jaw, it was clear she was not satisfied with where things were left. ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIPJay Lethal(c) def. Will Ferrara by pin Ferrara earned this title match having defeated Lethal in a Proving Ground match in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago. Lethal got the jump on Ferrara with a cheap shot and went to work on his leg. Will withstood some strong offense but failed at a couple of attempted comebacks. Jay landed with Diving Dynamite and it was enough for the pin. In two weeks, The Road To Final Battle runs through Lakeland, Florida: The Young Bucks will face the All Night Express. If ANX retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship next week, this will be a Proving Ground match. Either way, if the Bucks win, they will earn a title shot for the tag team gold. Mark Briscoe vs. Damien Martinez War Machine vs. Adam Page & Joey Daddiego Also scheduled to appear: ROH World Champion Adam Cole, Matt Taven, Jay Briscoe, BJ Whitmer, Will Ferrara, “Notorious” Shane Taylor and more. Truthless (Chris Sabin & The Young Bucks) def. Dalton Castle & The Addiction by pin These two charismatic teams had the crowd split in their support. Matt and Nick Jackson double teamed Castle for the short duration of this match. At some point Sabin disappeared from his team’s corner. As the Brothers Jackson combined with More Bang For Your Buck, Sabin reappeared, crawling out from under the ring in The Addiction’s corner and grabbed Christopher Daniels and Kazarian by the ankles, preventing them from making the save as Nick covered Dalton for the pin. After the main event, Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino broke down the action, Kevin deriding Truthless’ tactics while Steve applauded their cleverness. During the discussion, BJ Whitmer purposefully made his way down the aisle and approached the commentary position at ringside. The crowd noise alerted Kelly and Corino to his presence. Steve sat calmly but looked ready to defend himself as BJ came close. Whitmer whipped out the infamous Golden Spike, startling Steve and Kevin. With steady deliberation, he set the spike down in front of Corino and held it there with the palm of this hand. “I have a message from the Taskmaster, Steve. He wants to know - what’s it going to be, Steve? Green or gold? Green… or gold?”BJ withdrew his hand, leaving the spike in front of Corino, and was soon on his way back up the aisle. Corino just stared at the artifact before him. “Don’t touch that thing, Steve!” Kevin warned his broadcast partner. “But, Kevin, this… this is the Golden Spike. This is a piece of wrestling history. Dusty’s blood is on it. Blackjack Mulligan’s blood. I mean… this is something special.”Kevin worriedly looked at Corino who was still enthralled with the object as the show closed.

BJ Whitmer bringing the Golden Spike to Steve Corino who then talked about its history was great!
Looking forward to the next show!

Oh c'mon aceldamas, we need our Cheeseburger vs. Barreta rematch All kidding aside, I enjoyed the last show and Steve Corino's glowing recounting of the history of the spike was a bit troubling. It will be most interesting to see which side he is on as I say you can never trust Corino. Good on Jay Lethal retaining the television title over Will Ferrara as Ferrara has been known to pull an upset in ROH.

The closing moments of that show were just about the best thing I have read on the board in some time. Better than the real thing!

TTX , Vegas , cruefan68 , bookerbill - Well, I have to say that the praise for the Steve Corino/Golden Spike segment was unexpected but much appreciated. It's always interesting to see what resonates with you fellow promoters. I never know when I have struck gold until someone tells me. Growing up reading the Apter mags, the Florida wars were always one of my favorite things to follow in the 80s. Kevin Sullivan's Army of Darkness vs. Dusty Rhodes and friends helped define my idea of a wrestling faction feud. Thanks for the comments everyone. More on Corino and the Golden Spike follows on this eventful episode.
RING OF HONOR TELEVISION
2017 Season Episode 30 Raymond Rowe def. Joey Daddiego by pin These two brawlers logged a slobber knocker as was expected. There was a lot of action outside of the ring and each man received their opponent’s finisher more than once. Daddiego’s tag team partner, Hangman Page, made a run-in preventing a potential match ending situation. Rowe’s partner, Hanson, came out to chase Page to the back. Down the stretch, it was Ray putting this one in the books with Death Rowe. Hanson returned, bringing Page back to the ring by a handful of hair. War Machine punished the Two Fisted duo for their tactics, crushing Daddiego with their combo finisher, appearing to injure him. Damien Martinez w/Kevin Sullivan def. Bobby Fish by pin Until recently, Fish has been fighting an uphill battle against Punishment after they put his partner, Kyle O’Reilly, on the shelf. Will Ferrara has since joined his cause and now the Briscoes were also involved. Bobby specifically wanted this match against Martinez, in hopes of getting vindication for himself and his fallen friend. Fish’s attempts at offense were virtually ineffective against the towering Martinez. His attacks rendered ineffective, Bobby was easily dismantled by Martinez’s power game. South of Heaven spelled victory for Damien. Kevin Sullivan climbed into the ring and BJ Whitmer joined his teammates in short order. As Bobby slumped in the corner against the bottom turnbuckle, Sullivan got a mic that Whitmer had procured from the ring announcer. “You know, Bobby, we are always up for a good fight and you’ve given us one. We can thank you for that. Though, up until now, you’ve never really been one of our targets. But things have changed, Bobby. You’ve made some bad decisions lately. And, well… you need to be punished for the choices you’ve made. Boys…”Martinez and Whitmer put the boots to Fish, incapacitating him. BJ jumped down to the floor and cleared the timekeeper’s table. Everyone knew what was coming. Will Ferrara raced down to the ring but Whitmer caught him with a lariat that almost separated his head from his shoulders. As BJ positioned the table, Kevin Kelly was on his feet at the announce position, begging for ring crew or security to do something. “Steve…” Kevin began, only to halt as he looked to his broadcast partner still seated. Steve Corino was preoccupied, fidgeting with the Golden Spike bequeathed to him by Punishment at the end of last week’s show. “Corino! Put that thing away! What are you doing?!” At that point, Bobby Fish met the fate of those who came before him. Martinez drove Fish through the table as he leapt from the ring apron with the South of Heaven chokeslam. Next Whitmer approached the announce position and Kevin Kelly bolted out of the way. BJ swept the table of its contents with Corino seemingly oblivious to what was transpiring. Whitmer pulled the table away, which finally got Steve’s attention, as he placidly looked up at Whitmer. BJ just smiled and moved the table next to the ring. Martinez and Sullivan were back in the ring and Whitmer tossed Ferrara in to them. BJ slapped the table, indicating that it was Ferrara’s turn. Sullivan looked to Ferrara then shook his head no. “He’s a good kid.”Disappointed, Whitmer took out his frustration by menacing the ring crew trying to attend to Fish. Sullivan wrangled his crew and they took their leave. Next week, ROH makes a stop in Lakeland, Florida on The Road To Final Battle: Mark Briscoe vs. Damien Martinez War Machine vs. Adam Page & Joey Daddiego ANX vs. The Young Bucks BJ Whitmer vs. Dalton Castle Shane Taylor vs. Kazarian Also scheduled to appear: ROH World Champion Adam Cole, Matt Taven, Jay Briscoe, Will Ferrara. A semblance of order was restored during the break and when the show resumed, Kevin and Steve were back on commentary. “Steve, what happened to you just now? How could you remain so calm through the chaos we just witnessed? Are you alright?”“What do you mean, Kevin? I’m fine. I’ve seen a lot crazy stuff in the wrestling business. Not a lot is going to surprise me.”“Steve, what did you do with that Golden Spike?!”“Huh? What? What’s gotten into you, Kevin? We've got a big match to call next. Maybe you should take a minute and compose yourself.”ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPAll Night Express(c) def. Adam Cole & Matt Taven by pin This highly anticipated rematch for the tag team titles did not go down without some controversy. Soon after the bell rang, The Young Bucks came down the aisle, clearly still put off that they weren’t taking part in this match. Kenny King and Matt Taven were fighting on the floor as the Bucks approached the ring. Not surprisingly, Adam Cole’s ego would not let their presence go unanswered. He hopped to the floor and picked up his ROH World Championship belt and made sure Matt and Nick Jackson knew their roles. ANX took advantage of this opportunity and hit Taven with the One Night Stand with Rhett Titus making the pin. The bell rang and Cole turned around to see what happened and his jaw dropped. The Bucks got a big kick out of this. Cole jumped into the ring and demanded an explanation, first from the ref and then from Taven. Adam continued to fume, particularly about the fact that the Bucks got one over on him. ANX crossed paths with the Bucks and both sides acknowledged that they would be seeing each other next weekend in Lakeland, Florida for a Proving Ground match.

Adam Cole losing because of the Young Bucks is not cool, Bay-Bay! Big win for ANX over Cole and Taven though. Steve Corino in a trance was great, as was Punishment Martinez unleashing more fury. You captured Kevin Kelly's reactions perfectly as I could just here him saying that stuff.

Ouch! Was really pulling for Affluence (Bay-Bay!) to take back the tag straps... The continuing saga of Kevin Sullivan and his Punishment faction is really pulling in the audience... Can't wait to see where it's headed!

TTX , cruefan68 , Pariah - Affluence may have a new thorn in their side in the form of Matt & Nick Jackson. ANX may be in the Bucks future but they better not lose sight of Cole and company in their rear view. Final Battle, and the end of the season, is two months away and the fate of ROH and Punishment hangs in the balance. There is plenty more to come between now and then so keep reading! Thanks for following along! Road To Final Battle 2017 October 28, 2017 Lakeland, FL Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino were barely able to finish the opening of the show before the Briscoe Brothers music cut them short. Jay Briscoe came out wearing a full face hazmat gas mask with goggles and filter canisters. After making the rounds with the fans in the front row, Jay got into the ring and pulled the mask up onto his head. He got on the mic and was fired up about Punishment and, in particular, Delirious. “Listen up, you crazy sumb***h! You done spit that red mist in my face two times now! Well, this time I’m ready for ya! So why don’t you bring your crazy ass down here so I can kick it from one side of this building to the other!”The fans were hyped up and so was Delirious as he ran out. Briscoe pulled the mask back down over his face and started swinging. Jay Briscoe def. Delirious by pin After a brief exchange of blows, the action spilled out to the floor where Delirious ripped Jay’s gas mask off. Briscoe quickly took over and Delirious withstood two Jay Drillers before being pinned after a wind up neckbreaker. Jay put his mask back on and pummeled Delirious out of the arena. Matt Taven def. Cheeseburger by pin Taven could have pinned Cheeseburger minutes into the match but chose to toy with him instead. After two Climaxes and a big splash from the top rope, ROH World Champion Adam Cole came out dressed in a suit and got his Affluence partner’s attention. Cole indicated for Taven to wrap it up. Taven gave Burger another Climax before pinning him. Cole got into the ring, his title belt slung over his shoulder. “Sorry to pull the plug on your fun, Matt but I have some business to take care of. First, Young Bucks? Who do you two idiots think you are sticking your noses in our business? You will answer for that. I promise you. As for this baby right here,” he said, slapping the gold face of the belt. “Who’s left? I’ve beat everyone. Ring of Honor, you’re going to have to find me some new challengers because… well, I might just get bored and take this title somewhere else.”Cole chuckled as the crowd booed him but his expression fell when music played and Will Ferrara came out. Taven laughed and asked “What’s this Melvin want?”Adam, however, was not amused. He was even less so when Ferrara challenged him to a match later in the night. Cole eventually accepted and the crowd rooted Ferrara on. Shane Taylor vs. Kazarian draw It took a while for either of these competitors to get a solid advantage. Even though both men had a good run on offense, neither was able to finish his opponent before time expired. BJ Whitmer def. Dalton Castle by pin Whitmer destroyed Castle in a matter of moments, blitzing him with forearms and finishing him with a vicious lariat. As BJ made his exit he paused at the announce position, regarded Steve Corino, then kept going, confidently nodding to himself. PROVING GROUND MATCHThe Young Bucks def. The All Night Express by DQ With a title shot on the line, Matt and Nick Jackson needed a good showing against the ROH World Tag Team Champions. The Bucks did not fail to impress. Their teamwork was flawless, hitting all of their spots, keeping Rhett Titus in jeopardy for a good portion of the match. ANX did not go without showing why they are the champs, though. After a good stretch of action, Kenny King broke up a pin attempt on his partner after Titus took a Meltzer Driver. As King was clearing house, things got out of control and he accidentally popped the ref with a right hand as the official was trying to regain order. This led to a disqualification despite King pleading for leniency. The Bucks won on a technicality but showed that they were worthy of a title shot. Adam Cole def. Will Ferrara by pin Before the introductions, Will Ferrara indicated that Adam Cole should put his ROH World Championship on the line for this match. Cole’s expression was one of mirthful disbelief. The crowd tried pressuring for the title to be defended but Cole was not having it. “A title match? What are you, crazy? You’re couldn’t beat the ROH TV champion, so you sure as hell couldn't beat me.” Cole turned to the camera to address ROH World Television Champion, and his Affluence teammate, Jay Lethal. “Jay, sorry buddy. But you know it’s true.”Ferrara kicked out of an early Panama Sunrise but Cole wasted no time closing this one out with a Florida Key. Two Fisted (Adam Page & Joey Daddiego) def. War Machine by pin Joey Daddiego came to the ring with his ribs bandaged after being injured recently by War Machine. This was essentially a one-on-one contest between Adam Page and Hanson. Daddiego’s injury likely limited his action but Raymond Rowe’s lack of participation went unexplained. Page smashed Hanson into the ring post before putting him away with a rolling neckbreaker. No Disqualification Mark Briscoe def. Damien Martinez by pin The main event featured the growing feud between the Briscoes and Punishment. Mark Briscoe grabbed the mic before things got started and, with rare gravity, called for a stipulation for this grudge match: “This ain’t going to be a wrestling match. This is gonna be a fight. Ref, listen up! This here match is going to be no disqualifications. Ya understand me?” The ref looked to Damien Martinez who smiled and nodded. The ref acknowledged that both parties consented and called for the opening bell. Mark Briscoe brought the Redneck Kung Fu this night as he ran roughshod over Martinez. A non-stop string of offense saw Briscoe put Damien’s shoulders to the mat for one near fall after another. Finally, a high flying Froggy Bow put this one in the books. The Lakeland fans went home with a positive win in the ROH battle against Punishment. Current Rankings:
ROH World Champion - Adam Cole
- Jay Lethal
- Will Ferrara
- Christopher Daniels
- BJ Whitmer
- Dalton Castle
- Matt Taven
- Mark Briscoe
- Chris Sabin
- Damien Martinez
- Jay Briscoe
