2014.01.12 – Alpha 1 Wrestling – Club 77, Hamilton, Ontario – Chaos Cup
Rob Van Dam & Mike Quackenbush v. Cowboy Bob Orton & Zero Gravity Champion Austin Aries Both members of the winning team advance to the tournament finals. Van Dam looks very impressive against Orton early on including a dive onto Orton at ringside that gets the fans to their feet. Back in the ring, both teams are able to make tags. Aries whips Quackenbush into the corner but Quackenbush avoids the charge to the corner and then rolls up Aries for the three count. Great pace and a real fun opener. *
10 Man Battle Royal Ivan Koloff, Kip James, BG James, Nikolai Volkoff, Val Venus, Brian Kendrick, Koko B. Ware, Johnny Kashmere, Cousin Luke, Larry Sweeney It is chaos at the outset as all ten men pick opponents to battle. Larry Sweeney is able to come off the top of the corner with a 12 LARGE ELBOW DROP on Koko B. Ware and the Birdman is the first elimination. Nikolai Volkoff over powers Brian Kendrick in one corner and muscles him out of the match. Ivan Koloff batters Cousin Luke in and out of the ring and then dumps him over the ropes for the third elimination as the heels continue to dominate the match. Kip James attempts to eliminate Nikolai Volkoff but Ivan Koloff comes up from behind and dumps the co-holder of the tag team titles to the floor saving his partner. B.G. James arrives and battles Koloff into the corner. As the action continues around them B.G. James plants Koloff with back to back PUMP HANDLE SLAMS before pushing Koloff towards elimination but Nikolai Volkoff arrives from behind and dumps James to the floor. The Russians have eliminated both of the Tag Team Champions! Volkoff continues to impress catching Sweeney with a choke slam and then sending him to the floor. Volkoff then turns his attention to Val Venus and dumps him over the ropes to the floor leaving the Russians against Johnny Kashmere. Kashmere battles hard against the Russians but he is eventually overwhelmed and tossed from the match. Volkoff and Koloff then stand together in the middle of the ring and Koloff cuts a promo declaring themselves co-winners of the match. Koloff then tells the fans that they have destroyed half of the locker room tonight before demanding a shot at Tag Team Championship at the next card. * ½
Submission Match - George Hackenschmidt w/Ivan Koloff v. Dan Severn The fans are all over the Russians as they make their way to the ring. Both men put on a display of counter wrestling for the fans after the bell with no real clear advantage. Hackenschmidt gets Severn into a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG but cannot get the submission. The action goes in and out of the ring. Severn goes shoulder first into the post. Later, Severn cracks Hackenschmidt with a chair across the back. Severn begins to pour it on and traps Hackenschmidt in WAKIGATAME but the big Russian powers his way to the ropes. Severn applies the hold a second time in the middle of the ring but Koloff interferes blasting Severn with his chain. The referee gets Koloff out of the ring but the damage is done. Hackenschmidt hits a single leg pickup and slam and then traps a semi-conscious Severn in a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG. Severn is non responsive and the referee calls for the bell. Hackenschmidt is onto the finals. ***
Trent Acid v. Paul London v. Tyler Black Plenty of early three way brawling in this one but the match ends quickly when London catches Acid with a dropsault and gets the three count. The fans really expected more from this one. Dud
Alpha Male Title Match - The Destroyer (ch) v. Johnny Saint An interesting matchup between two highly skilled technicians. Destroyer spends the early part of the bout begging off to the floor which draws great heat from the fans. Saint keeps his wits about him and dominates the action in the ring. Destroyer counters a deathjump with a boot to the face and works Saint with a single leg Boston Crab for a near submission. Saint catches Destroyer with an elbow to the face in the corner and regains control. Saint maneuvers Destroyer into an elevated surfboard. Destroyer powers out but Saint goes back to the hold again in the middle of the ring and submits. Johnny Saint is the new Alpha Male Champion! ** ½ Four Way Tournament Finals – Rob Van Dam v. Mike Quackenbush v. George Hackenschmidt v. Paul London. This one starts off with power vs. speed as George Hackenschmidt battles Lightening Mike Quackenbush. Hackenschmidt seems to struggle with Quackenbush’s agility but a corner clothesline has no impact on Hackenschmidt who takes over with a body scissors followed by a wristlock suplex that rocks the ring and eliminates Quackenbush. Rob Van Dam is in against Hackenschmidt and wastes no time in going after his opponent. Hackenschmidt slows things down with a twisting heel hook but Van Dam gets the action to the floor and gets the best of Hackenschmidt at ringside. Back in the ring, Van Dam hits the FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH to take the fall. It is London against Van Dam with the winner earring the right to face new Alpha Male Champion Johnny Saint at the next card. London looks like he will not last one minute in the ring against Van Dam but London proves hard to beat kicking out after two FIVE STAR FROG SPLASHES. The fans are really into the action and pop huge when London catches Van Dam on the top of the corner and tosses him to the mat. Van Dam just has too many weapons and hits a third FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH to become the number one contender. ** ½
2014.01.12 – Victory Commonwealth Wrestling – Lula Lounge, Toronto, Ontario
Jigsaw v. Ultramatis Black Jigsaw had the fans behind him from the opening bell. Great pace to this one from the start and Jigsaw gains the advantage with a series of soccer kicks followed by a missile dropkick. Jigsaw then hits a JIG ‘N’ TONIC for the three count. (dud)
The Mongols (Geeto & Bepo) w/Sir Oliver Humperdink v. D’Lo Brown & Konnan Konnan’s call and answer mic work goes over well with the fans. Konnan and Brown work well together and manage to keep Bepo Mongol in the ring and use their speed to avoid the Mongol’s power moves. Geeto is finally able to get into the match but really can do no better and quickly has to make his own defensive tag. Brown catches Bepo with a swinging side slam and gets the upset three count. Humperdink is not pleased and complains of a quick count to the referee after the match. *
Blackjack Mulligan v. Dangerous Dan Spivey Battle of the big men is next. Spivey looks impressive early on keeping the action moving at a good pace with a series of whips into the corner and into the ropes. Mulligan slows things down and begins to take over when the action is stationary. Mulligan drops Spivey with a series of right hands and then traps his opponent in a CLAWHOLD for the three count. * ½
Johnny Valentine v. John Tolos Both of these men have a long history of being jeered so the fans are split during the introduction. Tolos goes out of his way with some pre-match insults which turns the fans against him. The action is closely contested from the outset. Tolos stuns Valentine with a standing knee drop forcing the match outside. Valentine is able to grab Tolos and runs him into the ring post earning a disqualification. The action continues after the bell with both men brawling their way to the back. *
Tag Team Title Match: Heartbreak Xpress (Sean & Phil Davis) (ch) v. Super Crazy & Timber These two teams get plenty of time to thrill the fans with some hard hitting action. The Xpress are on the defensive for most of the early action with both Crazy and Timber keeping Sean Davis from tagging out. They are not however able to get close to pinning Davis before the momentum turns. Crazy gets cut off from his corner and take a beating in and out of the ring. Twice Phil Davis blasts Crazy with a foreign object. A bloody and battered Crazy avoids being counted out and then finally hot tags in Timber. The fans pop but the advantage is short lived. The Xpress dominate the balance of the action and put Timber away with THE HEARTBREAKER. ***
Ray Stevens w/Sir Oliver Humperdink v. Jimmy Snuka Superfly is out to a huge pop from the fans. These two have battled up and down the east coast of the United States in the past and waste no time tearing into each other. There is no clear advantage as the action goes back and forth in and out of the ring. Stevens gets the upper hand during a brawl on the floor and then hits a BOMBS AWAY for the three count ending the short but action packed match. **
Openweight Title Match – Diamond Dallas Page (ch) v. Masked Superstar Page comes to the ring through the crowd earning plenty of high fives and cheers. Once the bell sounds Superstar immediately goes to work. When a SPINNING NECKBREAKER does not put Page away Superstar loads his mask and delivers a head butt that busts open the champion. Page never really recovers from that point although he manages to kick out after two more SPINNING NECKBREAKERS but a COBRA HOLD gives Superstar the win and the title. **

2014.01.18 – Capital City Championship Combat – Vanier Columbus Club, Ottawa, Ontario - "A Better Tomorrow"
Exotic Adrian Street w/Miss Linda v. Red Bastien Street draws some sold heat from the fans at ringside during the introductions but struggles out of the gate against a fired up Bastien. Neither man can gain a pin attempt however as Street manages to keep his shoulders off the mat as the action goes in and out of the ring. Both men battle over a chair on the floor and Bastien wins the struggle and clocks Street earning himself a disqualification. *
Dupae Rupa & Claudio Castagnoli v. Osirian Portal (Ophidian & Amasis) The fans are on their feet for the reunited Osirian Portal. Rupa and Castagnoli look like giants in the ring against the Portal. Interesting matchup of power vs. speed. Rupa looks like a monster early on against both members of the Portal. Ophidian leads his team back including an impressive armbreaker DDT on Castagnoli followed by a rolling reverse prawn hold. Rupa and Ophidian mix it up the floor where Rupa runs Ophidian back first into the ring post. Rupa hit the BELGIAN WAFFLE on Ophidian and would likely picked up the three count but Amasis and Castagoli join the action starting a wild brawl. The referee cannot restore order and calls for the double disqualification. The Portal clears the ring and then dance for the fans. * ½ Eddie Kingston v. Don Muraco We get a solid “beach bum” chant and Muraco loses his mind with the fans. Kingston is able to capitalize and dominates the early action. A Backfist to the Future gets two and so does a Yakuza kick in the corner. Muraco is able to come back including a pair of impressive looking falling face slams and an over the shoulder breakbreaker. Muraco thinks is it over when he hits a HAWAIIAN HAMMER but Kingston gets the shoulder up and the crowd goes insane. Outside, Kingston gets the best of a brawl and then crushes Muraco with a LARIAT in the middle of the ring. 1, 2, kick out! The fans thought it was over. The action goes back outside and Kingston does serious colour off the ring post. Kingston is clearly dazed and Muraco plants him with a second HAWAIIAN HAMMER for the win. ****
Maurice Tillet v. Antonio Inoki The fans seem actually a little scared of the French Angel as he makes his way to the ring. Tillet gets the early advantage with his power but Inoki escapes a blatant choke and sends Tillet off the ropes. Both men attempt a clothesline on the rebound and crash to the mat. Inoki is up first and locks in an OCTOPUS HOLD. Tillet hangs on and then Inoki connects with an ENZUIGIRI for the three count. *
American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) & Jerry Lynn v. Naptown Dragons (Drake Younger, Dustin Lee & Scotty Vortekz) Lynn starts off the match for his trio and looks impressive against both Dusting Lee and Scotty Vortekz. The match goes outside and Lynn goes into the ring post and is busted open. Younger tags in and brutalizes Lynn at ringside choking him out with a cord. The fans are all over the referee. Lee tags in and hits the Die Hard Trilogy but Lynn kicks out of the cover. Lee and Vortekz then execute DOUBLE DRAGON and get the win. The Wolves never see any action. * ½
Pepper Gomez v. Boris Zhukov The fans are solidly behind Gomez during the introductions. Many expected Gomez to run away with this one but he struggles to find consistency early on allowing Zhukov to control half of the action. Gomez counters a clothesline with one of his own and both men go down to the mat. As both opponent get to their feet Gomez executes a MEXICAN CRADLE for the three count. *
C*4 Tag Team Title Match – Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) (ch) w/Jim Cornette v. Larry & Curt Hennig Cornette at ringside always means trouble and tonight was no different as it was tennis racket smash to Larry Hennig’s back that turned the early momentum of the bout as the Express had really struggled with Hennig’s power attack. With the fans all over the referee and Cornette the action in the ring was hard fought. Lane saved Eaton from being pinned following THE AXE from Larry Hennig. Later the Express caught Curt Hennig with a Flapjack for a near fall and then combined for a VEG-O-MATIC but Larry Hennig was able to break up the cover and keep his team alive. The end came with Curt Hennig hitting back to deathjump smashes on Eaton and then Larry Hennig connecting with an elbow drop for the three count. The fans celebrate as Larry and Curt Hennig are the new C*4 Tag Team Champions. **
C*4 Title Match – Fred Blassie v. Jim Londos The heat for Blassie is off the charts. Londos draws on the massif fan support and goes on a tear from the opening bell. Blassie is selling all over the place. They go outside and Blassie goes into the ring barrier head first. Blassie gets some limited offense in after a shoulder tackle coming off the ropes but Londos is able to counter a backdrop with a piledriver and takes over again. Blassie barely makes it to the ropes to survive a BOSTON CRAB. Londos follows with an AIRPLANE SPIN and with the fans counting with the referee 1, 2, Blassie gets his shoulder up at the last possible second. The fans are frantic for a second title change tonight. The bout goes to the floor and Blassie runs Londos into the ring post earning himself a disqualification. The fans are anything but pleased with the result as Blassie escapes to the back clutching his title belt. **

2014.01.18 – Pure Wrestling Association - Alpine Club, Kitchener - “Holiday Hangover”
Angelo Mosca v. Jim Powers Mosca comes out and cuts a promo running down Kitchener so we know that they people are backing Powers tonight. The story in this one was Mosca throwing everything at Powers and Powers refusing to go down. Four times Mosca trapped Powers in a SLEEPER and each time Powers found a way to stay alive. Powers finally broke through with some offense and even got the best of Big Nasty on the floor at one point but Mosca kept coming and the fifth SLEEPER of the match finally ended it. **
All Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus) v. Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay Briscoe) These two teams have some hellacious battles all over the North East and now bring their battle to PWA. The Briscoe are here to fight and cut off Titus from this corner early on and then execute the DOOMSDAY DEVICE but Kenny King is in for the save. Mark Briscoe follows with a deathjump clothesline doing more damage to Titus’ neck. The Briscoe hits a second DOOMSDAY DEVICE and again King makes the save. Jay Briscoe take the bout to the floor and nails Titus with a somersault plancha. Titus cannot regain the ring before the referee’s ten count and the Briscoe Brothers are your winners. * ½ Elite Woman’s Title – Sherri Martel (ch) v. Nora Greenwald Very closely matched contest for the Ladies Title. Both women exchanged counters and holds with no clear advantage. The pace was often slow but the women did kick things up including exchanging suplexes on the floor which got a big reaction for the fans. Greenwald hit a handspring elbow that the fans also seemed to enjoy. Martel finally was able to hit a TOPE ROPE SPLASH but Greenwald kicked out at the count of 2. The damage was done however and Martel finished her challenger with a simple suplex for the three count. ** ½
Pure Violence Title – The Sheik (ch) w/Abdullah Farouk v. Danny Doring The Sheik and Farouk draw incredible heat as Sheik completes his pre-match prayers. Hopefully Doring has some health insurance in place. Doring has had his own share of hardcore battles in the past and really takes the battle to the champion from the bell. Plenty of brawling all over the place. Doring uses a chair to bloody Sheik before the action leaves the building and goes outside. Sheik goes into a snow covered car. Doring then assaults Sheik with the ring bell. Doring then unleashes a series of high offensive moves in the ring including a Bareback and two G-Spot Sweeps but cannot get the win. Sheik finally makes his comeback taking his own turn using a chair as a weapon. Both men are a bloody mess at this point. Sheik applies a CAMEL CLUTCH but Doring is close enough to the ropes to force the break. Sheik then ends it with a FIREBALL. Pure violence indeed! ****
Number One Contenders Match – The Crusher v. Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan We get a solid “weasel” chant from ringside and Heenan is losing his mind. The opponents know each other well and waste no time getting down to business. Bockwinkel scores early with a Boston Crab that nearly forces a submission. Crusher is stunned and Bockwinkel capitalizes with a piledriver to become the number one contender for the Pure Wrestling Title (Cat’s Eyes). dud
Ontario Title – Adam Pearce (ch) v. Bryan Danielson Danielson is out to a solid ovation while Pearce seems content to take his time getting into the ring jarring with the fans at ringside. Danielson is all over the champion at the bell picking up a very near fall with his suplex arsenal. Pearce bails and Danielson dives onto him at ringside lighting up ringside. Pearce cannot recover and is counted out of the ring. Danielson is the winner but goes home empty handed. *
PWA Tag Team Title – Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) (ch) v. Valiant Brothers (Jimmy &Johnny Valiant) w/Bobby Heenan Heenan is once again tormented by the fans and their “weasel” chant. Once the bell sounds the Valiant Brothers are able to quickly cut off Jim Brunzell from his partner. Jimmy Valiant rams Brunzell’s head into the ring post and the Killer Bee does sick colour. Both Valiant Brothers work over Brunzell until Brunzell is able to counter a clothesline with one of his own sending Jimmy Valiant to the mat. Blair hot tags but his momentum is quickly stopped when Jimmy Valiant rams him head first into the post. Now both the Champions are a bloody mess and the Valiant Brothers capture the titles with a TOP ROPE ELBOW. The Killer Bees had no offense the entire match! * ½
Pure Wrestling Champion – Lou Thesz Ontario Champion – Adam Peace PWA Tag Team Champions – The Valiant Brothers Pure Violence Champion – The Sheik Elite Woman’s Champion – Sherri Martel

2014.01.25 – Pure Wrestling Association – Delf’s Martial Arts & Health Club - “Wrestling in Bradford”
Danny Doring v. Antonio Rocca No one gave Doring any chance in this one at all but Doring had other plans and came out with an explosion of offense leading to a DANACONDA and a near fall. Rocca really struggled with Doring’s attack as the underdog kept coming and coming often using his own speed to regain the advantage. Twice more Doring hit a DANACONDA but could not get the three count. In the end, Rocca pulled out the win with a victory roll but the fans were treated to a thriller to open the night. ***
All Night Express (Rhett Titus & Kenny King) v. Jimmy Jacobs & Necro Butcher The Express look impressive early on and have the fans solidly behind them. Jacobs turns things around and unleashes his railroad spike on King busting him open. The fans are all over the referee. Butcher takes the action to the floor but King is able to reverse a whip into the ring post. King hot tags in Titus who immediately plants a dazed Butcher with a MUFF DRIVER for the win. **
Finley v. Nigel McGuinness The fans settle in for what should be a classic. However McGuinness had other ideas and dominated the match from bell to bell. Finlay eats the ring post and does colour. Despite the blood loss, Finlay kicks out of a LAWBREAKER LARIAT and escapes a LONDON DUNGEON. McGuinness keeps on coming including back to corner to corner forearm strikes. Another LAWBREAKER LARIAT puts Finlay down for the three count. ** ½
Angelo Mosca v. Steve Williams Back to back hard hitting bouts have the fans on their feet. Williams connects with a football tackle early on sending Mosca to the mat. The move wakes up Mosca who tears into his opponent in and out of the ring. Williams goes shoulder first into the steel post. Mosca uses a series of running clothesline to send Williams to the floor again where Mosca rams him into the ring rails head first busting him open. The referee has seen enough and calls for the disqualification. Both men brawl their way to the back.*
Ontario Title Lumberjack Match – Adam Pearce (ch) w/jimmy Jacobs, Necro Butcher, Angelo Mosca & Danny Doring v. Brian Danielson w/Kenny King, The Crusher, Nigel McGuinness & Antonio Rocca The fans are solidly behind Danielson from the outset and he responds by taking the battle to Pearce. A suplex arsenal has Pearce reeling and Danielson throws him to the floor where he worked over by Crusher and King. The referee tries to get Pearce back into the ring and the distraction allows Jacobs to sneak into the ring and deck Danielson with a chair shot. Pearce is rolled back into the ring and quickly covers a semi-conscious Danielson for the win. (Cat’s Eyes). The faces are not happy and protest the decision but Pearce retains.*
Pure Wrestling Title – Lou Thesz (ch) v. Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan The crowd is still fired up from the last match when these two shake hands and get underway. Bockwinkel earned this title shot by destroying The Crusher last card and picks up right where he left off dominating the early action against Thesz. The champion manages to escape a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and Bockwinkel maintains control. Thesz cannot get anything going as Bockwinkel attacks in and out of the ring. A piledriver and a choke on the ropes both net Bockwinkel near falls and Thesz barely escapes an abdominal stretch. The fans can taste that history will be made tonight and it is when Bockwinkel finally downs Thesz with a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER to become the new champion. (** ½ )

2014.01.26 – Smash Wrestling – The E Zone, Toronto, Ontario - “Any Given Sunday 2”
Matt Striker v. Blue Meanie A little comedy to open things up tonight. Striker and Meanie trade holds and blows until Striker hits the Lung Blower that really stuns Meanie. Meanie kicks out of the GOLDEN RULE but is counted out the ring moments later after running knee strike on the floor. *
Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli) v. Samoan Island Tribe (Samu & Alofa) These two teams are given plenty of time to show their skills. The Kings take 75% of the action in this one with the Samoans proving very difficult to beat. Both Samoans take a giant swing during the match which brings the fans to their feet. Castagnoli nearly gets the win with an Alpamare Waterslide but Samu saves his partner. Later Hero executes the HERO’S WELCOME on Alofa but again Samu is there for the save. The Samoan’s battled hard with their chops, headbutts and thrusts but in the end the Kings proved too much as Hero ended it with the HERO’S WELCOME on Samu. ****
Rikidozan v. William Muldoon The fans are treated to a short Puroresu ceremony prior to the bell. The fans settled in for what promised to be a counter fest of the highest order but Rikidozan had other ideas and took the early advantage with a head butt and series of chops and slams. Muldoon was forced to the defensive and managed to kick out of HIPLOCK and after THUNDEROUS CHOPS. Rikidozan really looked impressive tonight and ended the match with a surprize figure four leglock (ch). **
Tracey Smothers, Bob Armstrong & Brad Armstrong v. Chris Candido, Justin Credible & Bobby Shane w/Tammy Brad Armstrong starts off against Credible with some early success until Credible is able to counter a knee drop and Candido tags in with a vertical suplex that really stuns Armstrong. Candido follows with a BLONDE BOMB for the three count as Shane & Credible prevent the pin save. dud
Les Thatcher v. Tiger Mask Both wrestlers really appreciate the Puroresu ceremony prior to the bell and there is a large contingent of international press covering the action from ringside. It is not often the Thatcher looks like a giant in the ring. Some awesome back and forth action in this one with both men countering each other to near perfection. Mask delivers his high impact action with kicks and dives while Thatcher grinds away every time he grabbed a limb. Mask managed to hit a jumping spin kick that set up a TIGER SUPLEX but Thatcher kicked out of the cover. The action goes in and out of the ring. Thatcher showed some agility of his own with a nice looking deathjump crossbody for a near fall. Thatcher really stepped up his attack tossing Mask to the floor several times and connecting with back to back high sunset flips before locking on the STUMP PULLER for the submission. ***
Brent Albright v. Danny Hodge A handshake gets the action underway. Albright had a significant size advantage and he made good use of it early on including an impressive looking half nelson suplex. Hodge is not one to back down however and showed his own toughness managing to reverse a whip into the ring post at ringside and later backdropping Albright to the floor is a solid looking spot. Both men end up tangling on the floor but Albright runs Hodge head first into the ringside rails and earns a disqualification. The fans are not happy with the call and neither is Albright who immediately traps Hodge in a CROWBAR earning some solid heat from ringside. **
Don Leo Jonathan v. Killer Kowalski A classic feud between two of the squared circle’s big men. Plenty of hard hitting action as you would expect from these two. Kowalski is the early aggressor and it is an impressive sight to see Kowalski manhandle the Mormon Giant rebounding him off the ropes several times as if Jonathan was a lightweight. Jonathan made a comeback and hit three consecutive atomic drops that had the fans roaring. The giant swing gets the fans to the feet and sends Kowalski crashing to the mat. Jonathan tosses Kowalski to the floor but Kowalski is able to drag Jonathan outside and runs him head first into the rails. The bell sounds and the night ends with back to back disqualification finishes. Both men brawl around the ringside area with Jonathan bleeding from the forehead until security arrives to break them apart. **

2014.02.01 – Great Canadian Wrestling – Harmony Hall, Oshawa, Ontario – “Cabin Fever”
Greg Valentine v. Kevin Steen Steen receives a solid Mr. Wresting chant as this one gets underway. These two get plenty of time and provide the fans with some excellent, hard hitting action both in and out of the ring. Valentine manages to kick out after a PACKAGE PILEDRIVER and at one point, Steen is able to reverse a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK earning a great ovation from the fans. Valentine is nearly counted out of the ring after a powerbomb onto the apron but manages to crawl back under the ropes. The action went back and forth until Valentine connected with a falling elbow hammer for the three count. Excellent opener. ***
Dennis Condrey & Tom Prichard v. Al Snow & Marty Jannetty These four men know a little something about tag team wrestling. Condrey & Prichard use well timed defensive tags to keep the momentum going their way. Jannetty & Snow are no slouches themselves and get Prichard in some trouble. Condrey saves Prichard after a SNOW PLOW and again after a deathjump cross body block by Jannetty. Prichard kicks out on his own after a superkick and is able to make the defensive tag turning the momentum of the match. Condrey and Prichard connect with the ROCKET LAUNCHER on Jannetty but Snow makes the save. Prichard then blasts Jannetty with a foreign object and quickly covers his opponent for the pin. The fans are all over the referee but Condrey & Prichard are your winners. *** ½
Tony Atlas v. Masked Superstar II The fans were buzzing during the introductions having already been treated to solid encounters and now getting to witness a battle between two real powerhouses. The action went back and forth as you would expect between these two. Superstar II was slightly stronger and Atlas was more than slightly quicker than this larger opponent. Atlas rocks ringside with a vertical suplex and later Superstar II uses a double arm suplex to get a one count. The big men take flight as Atlas scores a two count with a cross body block. Atlas goes to the top against but Superstar II rolls clear sending Mr. USA crashing to the mat for a near fall. Atlas gets tangled in the ropes and Superstar II hammers away with forearms and punches. The referee steps in and gets tossed aside by Superstar II. The official makes the disqualification call. Atlas gets free and exchanges blows with Superstar II sending him to ringside with a dropkick. ** ½
WILD Title Match – Penny Banner (ch) v. Jazz Jazz wastes no time going after the Champion from the opening bell picking up a near fall after a fisherman’s buster. Banner seems stunned by her opponent’s strength as Jazz tosses her to the floor. Back in the ring, Jazz goes to the top of the corner for a deathjump but Banner is able to catch her on top and tosses her challenger to the mat. Banner then executes a perfect SMALL CRADLE for the win (cat’s eyes). Jazz is clearly frustrated with herself after Banner is announced the winner and fans feel the champion may have gotten lucky tonight. **
Frank Gotch v. Harley Race The intensity in the opening handshake says it all. This one could be a classic. Race control the match early on and picks up a near fall after a swinging neckbreaker. Gotch scores with an Iowa backdrop taking the match to the mat and then goes to work with a series of holds and counters that has Race grimacing in pain. Race manages to score with a backdrop that sends Gotch to the floor. The match goes in and out of the ring which seems to favour Race but Gotch shows he can also brawl sending Race shoulder first into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Race again goes after the neck with swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Race then plants Gotch with a PILEDRIVER. 1, 2, Gotch gets the shoulder up and the fans cannot believe it. Race immediately follows with a second PILEDRIVER for the win (cat’s eyes!). ** ½ Tag Team Title Match – Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) (ch) v. PG 13 (JC Ice & Wolfie D) The pace to this one was off the charts from the outset. Both teams made excellent use of defensive tags and double team maneuvers to keep the crowd on the edge of their seat. The Bucks began to gain control of the action and had their challengers on the defensive for some time but the Jackson brothers were able to pick up one near fall. The end came with Wolfie D battling Nick Jackson. D hit a sitout powerbomb which set up the TILT-A-WHRIL. Ice made the cover while D cut off Matt Jackson from making the cover and we have new champions! ** ½
National Title Match – Randy Savage (ch) v. Warlord Savage is out to a solid reaction from ringside but looks small in the ring against the powerful Warlord. Speed is the difference maker early as Savage connects with a suplex followed by a neckbreaker clothesline. Savage hooks the leg and retains in just three moves! Dud
