I wonder what the "issues" were. You'd think since Lawler has worked for WWE for the better part of the last 20 years, WWE would've got ahold of the Memphis tape library sooner.
Pardon my ignorance but I thought Jerry Jarrett owned the Memphis library. Can someone help here?

My understanding is that both Lawler and Jarrett along with someone else operated the Memphis area for years. There was a following out between the three and there have been several legal battles between the three over the years.

The rights to Memphis are a total trainwreck. Cornette owns some, Lawler owns some, no one even knows who owns the USWA footage. I think whoever has the masters tapes are considered the rights holders at this point.

I know Highspots has a large selection of Classic Memphis Wrestling. The DVDs were put together by former Memphis/USWA commentator/promoter Corey Maclin. Maclin passed last year so maybe that opened up the rights somehow...?

I think the rights are so muddy that no one will sue you. There are websites that sell the tv as a regular DVD product.

Maclin was in charge of a lot of the TV production so he probably had copies set aside for 'safe keeping'.

Yeah, almost all the Memphis stuff out there is from a bootleg. They get away with it because the rights are in total disarray.

I think want the WWE could get would be the Monday cards which are in rough shape. I think the stuff they really want, the USWA, they wouldn't be able to get. I don't even know if they could get the CWA TV.
