Although it seems a little too complex, I thought I'd bring my ideas to you guys. I'm not sure if someone has done this or not before... but I'm working on a project that will require a Nielsen Rating to measure a show. Please let me know if someone has done this before, and if so point me in a right direction. If not please be kind in your comments and help me make this work and or less complicated.
NIELSEN RATINGS CHARTS:
Rules:
- Each hour of show time customarily has 3-5 “Slots.”
- Each “Slot” can be a match or a segment.
- Depending on how many times you want to roll dice, you may roll once per show and get your show total or roll per “Slot” and then find out your show average.
- Refer to the “Roll Requirements” to continue.
Roll Requirements:
- Each “Slot” will generally have one of three reactions from the audience; they can love, hate or be somewhat impartial (mixed reaction) to what transpires.
- For each “Roll Requirement” a “Slot” meets, roll two dice once on the “Reception Chart” and add the number of met requirements to the total of your roll.
ROLL REQUIREMENT:
- Champion Appearance or Call Out
- Hot Feud
- Title Match*
- Popular/Pushed Wrestler (You only receive one credit if multiple popular/pushed wrestlers are involved)
- Controversy (Return/Departure)
- Exciting Match* (Back and forth, multiple tokens per wrestler, ect.)
- Special Match/Super Card
- Original/Rare Storyline (Envelope Pushing)
- It’s Up To You Promoter (This is for anything missed on this listing that you feel can add ratings to your show)
*These requirements refer to matches only.
- Roll 2 Dice
RECEPTION CHART:
- Once you find out how the fans have reacted follow the next two charts.
- If favorable, roll on Chart 1 (adding the number of requirements to the roll total as well) and add your result to Chart 2.
- If unfavorable, roll on Chart 1 (adding the number of requirements to the roll total as well) and subtract your result from Chart 2.
- If indifferent, roll on Chart 2 (adding the number of requirements to the roll total as well).
- Roll 2 Dice
RATING CHART 1:
- Roll 2 Dice
RATING CHART 2:
- Depending on what you are rolling for, the final number (Chart 2 + Chart 1 results) will be your Nielsen rating for your show or “Slot.”

*EXAMPLE*
The Undertaker has recently come back from a long break and has appeared on Raw, out of the blue, to challenge Triple H. to a title match. Triple H. accepts, and the match will take place later on in the evening.
- Roll Requirements met = 3 (Wrestler Return, Champion Call Out, Popular Wrestler)
- The Promoter rolls a 7 on the Reception Chart (they rolled a 5 and a 2). They then add 3 to the number (For the Roll Requirements), for a total of 10 on the chart. The Promoter realizes that the segment went over with the fans and now they roll on Charts 1 and 2, adding his roll requirements to that as well.
- The Promoter takes two dice and rolls a 5 on Chart 1 and adds 3, for a total of 8. (Which is a 0.6 Nielsen rating). They then look at Chart 2.
- The Promoter takes two dice and rolls a 7 on Chart 2 and adds 3, for a total of 10. (Which is a 3.0 Nielsen rating).
- The adding the two charts together, the segment draws a Nielsen rating of 3.6 during the Undertaker’s call out challenge to Triple H.
