Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Card 04 – WWL @ Mid-Hudson Civic Center, Poughkeepsie, NY – January 22nd, year one
Johnny Valentine v. Red Bastien Valentine is easily one of the most hated competitors in the WWL after taking out Bobo Brazil with his son over the past few cards. Bastien is always incredibly popular so the atmosphere at ringside is electric as Bastien takes a pounding for most of the contest. Twice Bastien kicks out after an ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER before mounting an epic comeback. With the fans cheering each move, we get not one but two flying head scissors spots before back to back ATOMIC DROPS give Bastien the upset comeback win. Hot opening contest gets things going. ****
Frank Gotch v .Giant Baba Both these men are looking to climb into the number one contender’s position and show some respect with a handshake to get the action underway. Gotch soon finds out that although on the mat, Baba may not be a giant but it is not easy to keep a Giant on the mat. Baba uses a series of head butts to take control of the action but Gotch catches a break on the floor when he is able to reverse a whip and Baba’s leg hits the ring step hard. Baba comes up hobbling and Gotch is all over the injury with a GOTCH TOE HOLD. Baba makes the ropes but Gotch applies a second GOTCH TOE HOLD for the win. A handshake ends the action officially as the fans show their appreciation for the sportsmanship. * ½
The Destroyer v. Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov Breznikov and Sheik were anything but happy when the Destroyer uses a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK to gain the win for his team over the Foreign Legion last week and both men demanded a singles match with Destroyer. Sheik gets on the mic and cranks up the heat with his thoughts on America and The Destroyer. Sheik immediately goes to work with a series of suplexes and a Boston Crab. Outside, the assault carries on and Breznikov gets some blows in as well upsetting the fans. Back in the ring, Sheik lands a deathjump smash and then traps Destroyer in a CAMEL CLUTCH from the impressive victory. *
Valiant Brothers (Jimmy Valiant & Johnny Valiant) & Captain Lou Albano v. WWL Tag Team Champions Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) & Paul Ellering The fans are treated to Albano v. Ellering right from the start and Albano manages to outclass Ellering including a Sicilian slam for a near fall. Johnny Valiant tags in but allows Ellering to tag in Hawk who turns the momentum with a series of suplexes and clotheslines. Animal joins Hawk for a double clothesline on Johnny Valiant and the Hawk hooks the leg for the three count while Ellering and Animal block the pin save attempts from Jimmy Valiant and Albano. Clear impressive wins for the Tag Team Champions. * ½
Killer Kowalski w/Captain Lou Albano v. Dick Hutton Hutton has been turning some heads early on in the year including battling Kowalski to a double disqualification a couple weeks ago. Kowalski was able to overpower Hutton early on including a full nelson suplex that looked very painful. Hutton battled through a CLAW HOLD and was able to get back into the action including a Cowboy backbreaker the nearly ended it. Hutton continued to press the attack before tying up Kowalski in an ABDOMINAL STRETCH for the huge victory. * ½ King Kong Bundy w/Virgil v. Harley Race Virgil accompanies Bundy to the ring and still has a soft neck collar on after his alleged injury at the hands of Harley Race two weeks ago. Bundy’s size dominates the early action but Race compensates by running Bundy into the ring post. Bundy, now busted open, is not the same for the balance of the action and although has some limited offense is not really a threat to Race who puts the big man down for three with a spinning neckbreaker. *
Greg Valentine v. Jimmy Snuka The crowd is solidly behind Snuka who takes several minutes to greet his fans on the way to the ring. Snuka had the fans roaring early when a leap frog and chop dropped Valentine for a two count before Snuka mounted the corner for a SUPERFLY LEAP but it was too soon for the finisher and The Hammer was able to roll clear. Valentine and Snuka traded moves, punches and chops before Snuka began to press the attack once again. A leap frog and chop dropped Valentine for another near fall and a powerslam gained another before a backbreaker was enough to give Snuka the victory. * ½
WWL World Title Match Nick Bockiwnkel (ch) w/Bobby Heenan v. Buddy Rogers The fans are buzzing during the introductions and it is unclear who they hate more. The Nature Boy is able to avoid a charge to the corner leading to a very early two count. Rogers keeps on Bockwinkel with dropkicks and a jumping knee smash. Bockwinkel is able to avoid a running tackle and start to go to work himself. Rogers is sent into the ropes and on the rebound catches Bockwinkel with an inside cradle. 1, 2, 3 we have a new champion! Heenan cannot believe it as the fans has witnessed history made. * ½

Hmm. I wonder if Rogers and Bock went a best of seven series what the outcome would be?

Thank you for the suggestion mwjergs. I was hoping that Bockwinkel v. Rogers would have some legs and it certain has so far. I do not think a best of seven showdown is in the future for these two but I cannot rule out a best of three falls match. I also have a Madison Square Garden supercard scheduled down the road and Bockwinkel against Rogers in a cage would pack the house. Card 05 – WWL @ Memorial Auditorium, Worcester, MA – January 29th, year one Sandman v. Playboy Buddy Rose Rose draws great heat demanding to be announced at 217 pounds. Sandman is out to a solid ovation but struggled early on with Rose’s experience and mat skills. The action went outside and Sandman soon took over. Rose came back but Sandman was able to counter a hip toss and use a simple body slam to stun Rose. Sandman then cracked Rose with a SINGAPORE CANE and picked up the win. * The Destroyer v. Ox Baker The was a really intense battle from the outset. Baker’s power ruled the early action and he picked up a pair of near falls along the way. Destroyer battled back with a mat attack targeting the lower body including a single leg Boston Crab and a figure four leglock (ch). The momentum went back and forth and featured plenty of brawling outside until Baker uses a chair to nail Destroyer across the back to earn a disqualification. Baker continues his assault on the floor but is stopped by Giant Baba who arrives to break things up. *** Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov v. Frank Gotch The heat for Sheik and Breznikov is off the charts and the fans chant USA at both men. The action is very tight from the outset with both men knowing their counters. Gotch begins to go to work but is frustrated by Sheik’s counters for the most part. Sheik takes control outside running Gotch back first into the ring post but he could not get the submission with a CAMEL CLUTCH. Gotch nearly gets his own submission with a crossface and arm bar before the Sheik loads up his boot and Gotch is a bloody mess. With the fans getting behind him, Gotch makes a comeback but his loss of blood begins to take a toll. Sheik gets the best of Gotch at ringside again and finishes him off with a CAMEL CLUTCH. A huge win for Sheik. *** Jimmy Snuka v. Johnny Valentine The ovation for the Superfly is off the charts. Snuka connects with a vicious chop early on and Valentine seems to like it. The match goes to the floor and both men tear apart ringside. Snuka takes it too far when he cracks Valentine across the back with a chair shot and is disqualified. Snuka keeps coming and Valentine is quick to bail from ringside. * Red Bastien v. Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré George tosses out pins to the crowd and draws huge heat while preparing for action at ringside. Despite both men’s skills, this one breaks down early and they spend plenty of time brawling on the floor. Dupré gets involved to help out George and the referee calls for the disqualification. Bastien is fired up and chases both Dupré and George from ringside much to the pleasure of the fans. * Harley Race v. Ted Dibase w/Virgil Virgil is still wearing his soft neck collar as he comes to ringside with the Million Dollar Man. After an exchange of counters the action goes outside and DiBiase is able to get control of the action. Back in the ring, Race becomes trapped in the ropes which allows Virgil to choke out Race while DiBiase deals with the referee. However, the official sees Virgil’s action and makes the disqualification call. DiBiase is not pleased with Virgil and tears a strip off of him as they leave ringside to a chorus of boos. Three quick matches in a row with disqualification finishes has not made the fans happy. dud Giant Baba v. Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov A long and plodding pace between these two powerhouses was anything but entertaining. Volkoff did wake up ringside with five consecutive throat drops on the ropes but the offensive flurry did not lead to a pin attempt. Baba controlled most of the action otherwise slowly picking up near falls along the way. Breznikov attempt to cause a distraction was unsuccessful but Volkoff still managed to kick out after a piledriver in any event. The finish came when Baba nailed Volkoff with a Baba Chop and covered for the three count. ** Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) (ch) w/Paul Ellering v. Valiant Brothers (Jimmy & Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano The Warriors quickly cut off Jimmy Valiant from his corner and go to work with power moves leading up to a DOOMSDAY DEVICE but Johnny Valiant makes the save. The Valiant Brothers are finally able to work a tag but Johnny Valiant remains in the ring for just moments before Jimmy tags back in. The frequent tag plan backfires and Jimmy Valiant gets trapped again. Johnny Valiant saves his brother from a second DOOMSDAY DEVICE and Albano causes a distraction to prevent the pin after a third DOOMSDAY DEVICE. Valiant is literally out on his feet when the Warriors crush him with a fourth DOOMSDAY DEVICE and Albano jumps into the ring. The referee calls for the disqualification but it does not really matter as this one was all Warriors from start to finish. * ½

WWL Champion: Buddy Rogers 1. Nick Bockwinkel 2. Iron Sheik 3. Jimmy Snuka 4. Frank Gotch 5. Harley Race 6. Dick Hutton 7. Giant Baba 8. The Destroyer 9. Red Bastien 10. Killer Kowalski
Card 06 – WWL @ Washington Avenue Armory, Albany, NY – February 5th, year one
Sandman v. Killer Kowalskiw/Captain Lou Albano The fans were expecting an all out brawl in this one and that is exactly what they got. Kowalski controlled early on but once the action went to the floor Sandman took the advantage. Kowalski kicked out after a HARDCORE DDT. The action went in and out of the ring until Sandman was eventually disqualified for running Kowalski face first into the rails at ringside. Both men brawled their way to the back. * ½
Destroyer v. Greg Valentine Destroyer continues to look for traction in singles action but was in tough against The Hammer. Destroyer managed to catch Valentine in figure four leglock (ch) but Valentine came back during a brawl on the floor. A falling elbow hammer lead to a near fall before Valentine picked up the win with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK of his own. After the match, Destroyer was clearly frustrated kicking the ropes and snapping at a ringside fan before leaving. * ½
Harley Race v. Ted DiBiase w/Virgil The fans have really gotten behind Race in his battles against DiBiase and tonight is no different. Race has DiBiase on the run early on especially after a diving headbutt. DiBiase rolls to the floor and Race is out after him. Race takes out Virgil, who is still wearing a soft neck collar, with a head butt and then cracks DiBiase across the back with a chair shot. The referee calls for the bell. DiBiase crawls his way to the back while Race tosses Virgil into the ring, rips off the collar and gives him a PILEDRIVER much to the pleasure of the fans. Virgil does the stretcher job after the match. *
Johnny Valentine v. Jimmy Snuka The ovation for Snuka is off the charts as he comes to the ring. Snuka draws on the support and quickly gets the upper hand. A flying headbutt downs Valentine and Snuka then connects with a SUPERFLY LEAP (1) but cannot get the pin. Outside, Valentine runs Snuka into the ring post and is disqualified. Suddenly, Greg Valentine joins his father and it is a two on one beat down. Greg Valentine traps Snuka in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK while Valentine drops elbow after elbow onto the Superfly. Security arrives to break things up. Snuka needs assistance to leave the ring. (Snuka 8 card injury) * ½
Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré v. Frank Gotch The fans are still stunned after the attack on Snuka so the reaction for George is not up to its usual heat. George really is on point tonight and uses a face rake with Georgie pins to get the upper hand. An airplane spin followed by a Gorgeous Grip had Gotch reeling. George trapped Gotch in the ropes and Dupré decided to get involved in the action with a choke. The referee saw the interference and called for the disqualification. The fans are not pleased and fill the arena with boos. *
King Kong Bundy v. Dick Hutton Hutton has been on an impressive run the last few cards and looked to continue that momentum tonight. Bundy used his power early on to get the advantage but Hutton was able to reverse a whip on the floor and send Bundy into the ring post. Back in the ring, the action went back and forth. Hutton avoided a charge to the corner and Bundy shook the arena with his collision with the buckles. Hutton covered for a two count and dominated the balance of the match. It took two ABDOMINAL STRETCHES but Hutton was able to get the submission win. **
Giant Baba v. Ox Baker Baker took the early advantage in this battle of the big men brawling his way into control. Baba took a vicious beating in and out of the ring but the with the fans getting behind, mounted a comeback at ringside with a series of chops. Back in the ring, Baba connected with a back suplex for a near fall and then crushed Baker with a NECKBREAKER DROP for the pin. **
Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) (ch) w/Paul Ellering v. Foreign Legion (Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff) w/Nikita Breznikov These two last battled back in the second week of action and tore the house down in an all out war that also involved the managers. Fans are braced for more of the same but this time the straps were on the line. The Warriors come out on fire in this one and manage to cut of Volkoff from his corner. Volkoff takes an epic beating from both Warriors but Sheik saves him from a DOOMSDAY DEVICE. Hawk blocks Sheik’s pin save after a POWERSLAM from Animal but Breznikov is able to cause a distraction. The beating continues with Breznikov this time interfering saving Volkoff from being pinned by Hawk after a gut wrench suplex. Sheik is eventually able to get back into the action and has some moments on offense leading to a pair of near falls on Animal. The Warriors are soon able to get Volkoff back into the ring and he is obviously in no condition to fight and Hawk ends it with a vertical suplex. Dominating win for the champions. **

Card 07 – WWL @ Coliseum, New Haven, CT – February 12th, year one
Dick Hutton v. Playboy Buddy Rose Rose demands to be announced at 217 pounds and shows off his athletic skills with a series of jumping jacks before quickly running out of breath much to the delight of the fans. Perhaps he should have conserved his energy as Hutton nailed a shoulder throw and followed with a Cowboy backbreaker to end this one in just two moves. dud
Frank Gotch v. Gorgeous George w/Cherie Dupré This was a rematch from last week when George looked very impressive against Gotch but dropped the decision by disqualification. George works the crowd for solid heat as he prepares for action on the floor with the assistance of Dupré. This one was quite good. George was able to get the upper hand early and picked up a near fall after an airplane spin but Gotch countered a deathjump crossbody with a perfect power slam for a two count and then transitioned immediately to a GOTCH TOE HOLD. George hung on but Gotch continued to work the leg including a painful rolling knee bar and two more GOTCH TOE HOLDS. A distraction by Dupré saved George who eventually was able to get back into the match countering a body slam attempt. George goes for another airplane spin but cannot only get a couple of rotations before his leg gives away but he still manages to get a two count. Gotch comes back and applies another GOTCH TOE HOLD and this time George has no choice but to submit. ****
Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov v. Red Bastien Sheik gets on the mic and tells the fans what he thinks about America and Red Bastien drawing great heat. Sheik battles through the massive USA chant and nails Bastien with a belly to belly suplex. Sheik loads up his boot drawing even more heat and nails Bastien in the head. The crowd is all over the referee as he drops for the three count. The fans toss trash at the Sheik and Breznikov as they quickly escape to the back with a shocking victory. dud
Johnny Valentine & Greg Valentine v. Bobo Brazil (inj 1) & Jimmy Snuka (inj 8) The ovation for Brazil and Snuka is off the charts but both men have their legs heavily taped and clearly are not one hundred percent. Brazil carries most of the action for his side early on as he battles both Valentines. Snuka does get in against Johnny Valentine and hits a flying headbutt that has the fans on the feet. Johnny Valentine and Brazil tear up ringside with a wild brawl and the Hammer gets into the match with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but Brazil is able to make the ropes. Brazil later catches Valentine on the top and tosses him to the mat earning huge ovation. Snuka hot tags and mounts the corner for a SUPERFLY LEAP but Valentine rolls clear and tags in his father. The momentum goes back and forth. Snuka ends up brawling with Greg Valentine at ringside and send Valentine into the ring post. Valentine is busted open the referee calls for the bell disqualifying Snuka. All four men brawl after the bell until several wrestlers come out to break things up. **
Killer Kowalski/Captain Lou Albano v. The Sandman This was our second rematch from last week after these two had a wild brawl in the opening contest in Albany. Kowalski wrestles a smart match avoiding brawling and keeping the action in the ring. Sandman eventually gets control and a White Russian Leg Sweep forces Kowalski to ringside. Sandman is out after him and runs Kowalski face first into the ringside rails earning a disqualification. Kowalski is busted open but still manages to go blow for blow with Sandman after the bell as officials flood ringside to pull the two men apart. *
The Valiant Brothers (Jimmy & Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano v. Giant Baba & The Destroyer Baba and Destroyer dominated the match from the outset as the Valiant Brothers had no answers to Baba’s power and Destroyer’s mat skills. They kept the action in the ring and picked up several near falls. Baba had the match won after a NECKBREAKER DROP on Johnny Valiant but Jimmy Valiant was able to make the pin save. Baba’s frustrations got the best of him as he finally tosses Johnny Valiant to the floor. Valiant was able to trip up Baba and drag him outside running him in to the ring post shoulder first. Back in the ring, Johnny choked out Baba with a tag rope leading to a near fall as the fans were all over the referee. The Valiant Brother then hit a TOP ROPE ELBOW on Baba allowing Jimmy Valiant to get the three count while Johnny Valiant stopped Destroyer’s save attempt. Huge comeback win for the Valiant Brothers who will be looking for another shot at the Tag Team Titles. **
Harley Race v. Ted DiBiase No Virgil with the Million Dollar Man tonight who is greeted with solid heat. DiBiase and Race battle back and forth but Race is able to counter a backdrop with a piledriver. Race dominates the balance of the action including a vertical suplex and diving headbutt. DiBiase is reeling and Race finishes him with a PILEDRIVER. *
WWL Title – Buddy Rogers (ch) v. Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan The crowd is split as the action gets underway. Heenan has Bockwinkel focused on the task at the hand and gets Rogers in position for a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER but Rogers backs to the corner. Bockwinkel goes back to the hold again but Rogers is able to get to the ropes. A FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK has Rogers and the fans howling but Rogers makes the ropes again. Heenan is losing his mind on the floor and Bockwinkel delivers his fourth straight finisher with a third BOCKWINKLE SLEEPER to reclaim the WWL Title. * ½

Card 08 – WWL @ Arena, Philadelphia, PA – February 19th, year one
Playboy Buddy Rose v. Red Bastien The fans are all over Rose who demands to be announced as weighing 217 pounds. The action very tight early on. Rose gets some heat against Bastien but with the fans behind him, Bastien battles back leading to an ATOMIC DROP for a two count. That is as close as Bastien would get as Rose overpowered Bastien including a brain buster that nearly killed his opponent. Rose nailed a powerbomb (ch) and collected a big win. **
Iron Sheik w/Nikita Breznikov v. Dick Hutton Sheik is out to massive heat and gets on the mic cranking it up even more. Things start out slow as both men exchange counters while the fans deliver a solid USA chant. Hutton kicks it up a notch and nearly get the submission with a lengthy ABDOMINAL STRETCH. Things then get ugly at ringside and the Sheik gains control. A loaded boot leaves Hutton a bloody mess and the fans are all over the referee. The loss of blood slows Hutton but somehow he manages to escape the CAMEL CLUTCH by making the ropes. Hutton draws on the fans support and battles back including a pair of Cowboy backbreakers and then gets the submission win with an ABDOMINAL STRETCH when Breznikov cannot cause a distraction. Hutton continued to look impressive as he moves closer to a shot at the WWL Title. *** ½ .
Giant Baba v. Frank Gotch There is lengthy Puroresu ceremony before the action gets underway following a handshake. Gotch came out on top last time these collided and Baba was looking to get his win back. He wastes no time and quickly powers Gotch to the floor. Gotch regains the ring but is met with a NECKBREAKER DROP. Gotch kicks out but an immediate second NECKBREAKER DROP gets the job done. *
Jimmy Snuka (inj 7) & Bobo Brazil v. Greg Valentine & Johnny Valentine The ovation for Brazil and Snuka is epic. Snuka and Brazil take their time greeting fans at ringside. Snuka has his leg bandaged while Brazil appears ready to go. Brazil gets the start against Johnny Valentine and they brings the fans to their feet during a brawl on the floor. Brazil maintains the advantage and attempts a submission with a bear hug. Johnny Valentine runs Brazil into the ring post and the referee lets things go. Back inside, Greg Valentine tags in and quickly traps Brazil in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK for the win (Snake Eyes). The action does not stop there as once again the Valentines attack. Johnny Valentine knocks the Superfly to the floor and then Valentine goes to work on the leg with a prolonged FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK on Brazil with Valentine dropping elbows for good measure. Security arrives and Brazil is once again injured (6 cards). * ½
The Sandman v. Killer Kowalski w/Lou Albano Although unhappy with the result of the last match the crowd explodes for the Sandman’s music. The match featured plenty of brawling as you would expect including prolonged exchanges outside that the fans ate up. Sandman took control during one of the those exchange and planted Kowalski with a HARDCORE DDT for a near fall. Sandman hit a Heinekenrana and followed with a second HARDCORD DDT for the crowd pleasing victory. * ½
Nikolai Volkoff w/Nikita Breznikov v. The Destroyer Volkoff sings the Russian Anthem to huge heat. Destroyer has his moments but the real story in this one is the big Russian’s power attack which leads to multiple near falls. We get several USA chants but Destroyer continues to struggle. Late in the match, Destroyer is able to trip up Volkoff from outside and rams his leg into the the ring post. The fans love it and Destroyer takes full advantage trapping Volkoff in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK for the win. **
WWL Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/Paul Ellering v. Jimmy Valiant & Johnny Valiant w/Captain Lou Albano These two teams have already clashed several times this year so there was going to be no real surprizes between the competitors. Both teams makes frequent tags until we get Animal in against Johnny Valiant. The power show was impressive including a back body drop and blatant choke. A flying shoulder ram puts Valiant to the mat and Animal follows with another blatant choke to set up a POWER SLAM. Valiant cannot kick out and the Warriors retain without any real difficulty. dud
Steel Cage Match – Ted DiBiase v. Harley Race Race has been battling DiBiase and his associates in some form or another since the beginning of the year and now they have taken their feud to the steel cage. DiBiase controls a majority of the action but Race is defensive enough not to allow DiBiase any really high level offense. It is clear that neither man wanted to use the cage as a weapon necessarily but it was a means to keep the likes of Virgil and King Kong Bundy out of the ring. The fans grow restless and really want the action to pick up but Race gets the upper hand and lands a diving head butt and simply walks out the cage door for the win. The fans are clearly not all that impressed but this feud comes to an anticlimactic finish. *

Card 09 – WWL @ Capital Centre, Landover, MD – February 26th, year one
Dick Hutton & Red Bastien v. Valiant Brothers (Jimmy Valiant & Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano We get a crowd pleaser to start the night off. The Valiant Brothers get some great heat on Bastien who wears the crimson mask after getting blasted with Jimmy Valiant’s foreign object. Hutton leads his team back picking up a pair of near falls on Johnny Valiant. He too suffers a blow with Valiant’s foreign object and the momentum turns. Bastien treats the fans to a pair of flying head scissors of Jimmy Valiant. As the match went on the action went back and forth. Just when it looked like the Valiant Brothers would get the win, Hutton was able to catch Jimmy Valiant with a side salto and then trap him in an ABDOMINAL STRETCH for the win (snake eyes) ** ½
Foreign Legion (Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff) w/Nikita Breznikov v. Giant Baba & The Destroyer The fans give it to Breznikov and his team especially when Volkoff gets on the mic and gives us his rendition of the Soviet Anthem. Real slow pace to this one early on with both teams wrestling defensively looking for the first mistake by their opponent. Things pick up when Volkoff catches Destroyer in the corner with an elbow to the chin. Sheik takes the fight to the floor but Destroyer turns the tables and whips Sheik into the ring post. Sheik is a busted open and Baba tags in and nails the NECKBREAKER DROP for the three count. * ½
Ox Baker v. Harley Race A battle of two of the federation’s toughest was next. Race appeared to struggle early with Baker’s size but he manages to counter a shoulder tackle to get the upper hand. A diving headbutt stuns Baker and Race plants him with a PILEDRIVER for quick win. dud
Bobo Brazil (inj 6) v. Johnny Valentine Brazil has spent most of this year rehabbing from injuries suffered at the hands of the Valentine family but the fans were solidly behind him tonight. Valentine gets the advantage in the opening minutes of the contest leading up to two ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHERS. Brazil answers back with a kick out both times before things get ugly at ringside. Brazil runs Valentine into the ring post busting him open. A pair of COCO BUTTS open up Valentine further. Valentine then eats the ringside rails but the referee lets the action continue. Back inside, Valentine has lost a lot of blood and Brazil strikes with another set of COCO BUTTS. Greg Valentine jumps into the match and attacks Brazil. The referee calls for the bell and disqualifies Valentine. Superfly Snuka arrives on the scene with a steel chair in hand and breaks up the attack before Brazil can be further injured. ***
King Kong Bundy v. Frank Gotch It is pure power against mat skills next. Gotch avoids a bulldog in the opening moments but Bundy catches Gotch charging to the corner with a still elbow in very next exchange. Bundy then strikes with an AVALANCHE for a two ½ count. Gotch is in trouble and looks like a rag doll in the ring. He bails to the floor but Bundy follows. Gotch is able to reverse a whip and Bundy goes into the ring post shoulder first. The referee calls for the disqualification and Bundy has a big win. Gotch is not pleased as he leaves the ring area. * ½
Jimmy Snuka (inj 6) v. Greg Valentine The fans give the Superfly a huge ovation as he comes to the ring. Superfly knows that the longer this one goes the more the advantage his opponent would have due to Snuka’s injuries. Snuka strikes fast with a backbreaker that does damage to both men but gets Snuka a near fall. Snuka then hits a perfect powerslam in the middle of the ring for the shocking win. The fans love it and Snuka could not be happier. dud
Texas Death Match – Killer Kowalski w/Captain Lou Albano v. The Sandman This one was a war from start to finish. Things became crazy very early on. Kowalski made liberal use of a chair at ringside and then trapped a bloody Sandman in a CLAW HOLD twice but could not get the submission or pin. From this point the action spilled in and out of the ring and both them made use a various objects on each other including chairs, the ring bell, a pipe, the ring steps and a length of rope that both men choked each other with. Both men bled buckets. Sandman appeared to have the match won after a blow with a SINGAPORE CANE but Albano made the save. The action went back and forth and even left the arena at one point when Kowalski rammed Sandman into a car. Back inside, Sandman began to push the advantage when the time limit expired (pin totals KK 10, TS 11). Both men dropped to the mat in a heap at the bell and needed assistance leaving the ring. Massive ovation for both competitors at the end of the match. *****
WWL Title Best of Three Falls Match – Nick Bockwinkel (ch) w/Bobby Heenan v. Buddy Rogers Rogers starts out strong and busts open Bockwinkel at ringside early on in this one. Bockwinkel is able to avoid being pinned however and mounts a comeback trapping Rogers in a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Rogers makes the ropes and slowly the momentum begins to change again to the point where Rogers is able to catch Bockwinkel in a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. Heenan is able to cause a distraction to save Bockwinkel and the action continues. It is back and forth with both men having moments in control. Bockwinkel wins a brawl on the floor and then takes Rogers back to the floor nailing him with a chairshot across the back. The referee lets it go and in the next exchange, Bockwinkel has the first fall with a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. The fans are all over the referee between the falls. Rogers responds early in the second fall nearly winning with a jumping knee drop. Bockwinkel comes back with a series of chokes on the ropes earning great heat and then traps Rogers in a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK to retain the title in two straight fall. ****

Sandman vs. Kowalski was off the charts, what a match. I also loved the main event and was hoping for three falls but congrats to Bockwinkel on retaining the gold against Rogers.

Opening the Book: The Feud for the Gold
I have really enjoyed the battle between Nature Boy Buddy Rogers and Nick Bockwinkel for the WWL Title. Once they started trading the strap back and forth I decided to just go with the flow and let the dice decide where the feud would take me. After bouncing the belt back and forth it seemed only natural to book a best of the three falls bout. My hope was that it would go three falls so I could then book a rematch or perhaps an Iron Man Match at the next card featuring a title defense (I have the entire year set up in advance with Tag Team and WWL title defenses assigned so there is an equal amount of each in each month) but Bockwinkel took the best of three falls in two straight so there were be no Iron Man contest (at least not yet). Card 17 will be my first Madison Square Garden show and I would like nothing more to have Rogers & Bockwinkel end their struggle at that show. Perhaps inside the steel cage or a loser leave town bout. The best of three falls match was not without its controversy. The interference/distraction of Bobby The Brain was key in Bockwinkel getting the win so Rogers does have a legitimate beef he could take to the championship committee. If Rogers is able to keep winning he may still find himself in the main event at MSG. The length of the feud between Rogers and Bockwinkel has shut out the balance of the WWL roster from the title and the list of contenders is growing. I have a shake up planned for the next card that will see a new challenger arrive (thanks to the federation management chart) that will be sure to upset some of the WWL locker room. What will be the reaction to the new challenger? Who will actually get the next shot a Nick Bockwinkel?
