I can't be the only one who doesn't use storylines to determine matches on shows.
What I do is have the champion face the number 1 contender and if the number 1 contender wins he gets a title shot.
Also, I have the winners of the previous show's matches determine who fights who. The winners of the other matches face off and the cycle continues.
How do you guys do it?

I don't run a CotG fed currently, but in my EVOLVE Wrestling fed I do use WINS-LOSS Records and most of the time that decides my number one contenders. I do though use storylines as well, so its a mix of both...

Although I have nothing against feds that are entirely statistic based, it just wouldn't work for me... I don't spend alot of time on record keeping in either my GWF Into the Now fed or my OutBreak Indy fed... My shows are almost entirely storyline driven... Nothing too epic going on, but alot of minor plots that seem to intersect quite a bit... As for my rankings, I just use the online rankings tracker and then make minor adjustments that seem to make sense for the angles that I'm currently running - So, truly nothing mathematical going on here... That's what works for me as a player... As a reader, I can honestly say that I enjoy following feds of either type as long as there is something to catch my eye... If someone does an exceptional job of running a stat-based fed... Great job!

I don't have storylines in my fed. I keep the heels & faces as exactly as they were in reality (from what I can remember) and just put matches together for the fun of it.

You're not the only one. I would love to do storylines, but I just don't have the time and my brain would hurt from it (LOL). I run my feds in supercard format treating wrestling as a legitimate sport. I've always wanted to be a little different and this lets me do that. Sometimes faces will face each other, sometimes heels will face each other. I do live segments during my cards and if the history is there, sometimes I'll do a face-to-face confrontation or a post-match brawl, but that's about it.

I real life, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) actually has almost no story lines whatsoever. IMO it is one of the reasons PWG's matches are on average better than the matches of any other fed in the country.

I run the matches I want and that works just fine for me.

I have guys with animosity towards each other, mostly derived from the backstory in the booklets but occasionally just from guys having a really competitive match or a DQ or what have you. I don't have story lines beyond whatever is in the feud table ,or maybe just "x wants a title shot" but never really "angles." The only real homemade story I have is Rowdy Roddy Piper being backfisted into 2120 by Eddie Kingston in a match in 2015. He leads a stable of time displaced wrestlers called "Old School." Besides that,I'm very by the book. I do have number one contender ship matches, but the super cards usually feature guys putting the belts against their rivals. The undercard is usually just random faces vs. random heels ,but in my fed any match that ends in doubles goes to the feud table,so any story lines that develop are completely organic.
That's GWF. In my Chikara fed,I use the Chikara point system and then have big tag matches with like 5 rudos vs 5 technicos for the main. The big rivalry there is Randy Savage vs. Daniel Bryan. The tags are usually Ultramantis or Quack taking some faces against the BDK.

I used to run all story likes in my feds, but now I only do story lines with the GWF title.
