I’ve been putting some finishing touches on my new 1977 Memphis bootleg set (hoping to finish next week). Anyways, decided to do some art of some Memphis guys from a pic I came across. They aren’t from the 70s, but the 80s. Just a fun mid card team that had solid runs in several territories in the late 80s.
So how about this: I always want people to learn about Memphis “rasslin”, so here you go. Here are five Memphis trivia questions. The first ten promoters to correctly answer them (via PM, not on here please) , I’ll send you this team FREE of charge. Yep, just feeling generous. Will they be main eventing or contending for your tag belts? Naw, probably not. Will they provide a solid undercard team that can be fun? Oh definitely!
So here are the questions:
1) While Jeff Jarrett is desperately trying to stay relative in today’s wrestling climate, it’s hard to believe he’s been involved in the business for THIRTY YEARS! So the question is, how did Jeff “break” into the business, what was his “claim” to breaking in (no, not that he was Jerry’s kid)
2) While the heel authority figure is extremely passé now, it’s been said that the heel authority figure originated in Memphis. Who exactly was this heel authority figure?
3) In the mid 70s, an imposing figure came upon the scene - Plowboy Frazier. It was said Jerry Lawler and his manager Sam Bass saw him with a harness around his neck and actually plowing a farm field. He eventually became a lacky for Lawler and Bass until Jerry Jarrett showed him something that caused him to turn on Lawler and Bass. What did Jarrett do?
4) While Jimmy Hart became one of wrestling’s well known managers, when he first started, he was simply a back round lackey for Lawler. Lawler then suffered a major injury that set the wheels in motion for Hart to become the centerpiece of the promotion until Lawler was able to return. Hart uttered a famous line on TV which set in motion Lawler’s babyface turn and set off a feud that last five years. What was Hart’s famous phrase?
5) When Jerry Jarrett decided to split from Nick Gulas in the spring of 77, Lawler and many others told Jarrett they were jumping with him. Jarrett thought he had the support of everyone, but two key figures, who first agreed to jump, decided to stay with Gulas. While they returned to the Jarrett fold, it took a few years before those wounds healed. Who were the two key figures that decided to stay with Gulas
Good luck! How about we end it on Saturday at 11:59 pm or until ten winners have entered.
