LWA – Generations Update (August ’17)
It’s been a great opening month for the upstart brand of the Legends Wrestling Alliance with lots of exciting talent and great matches.
The singles division has been especially hot since crowning it’s first champion, Bryan Danielson. Danielson only held the title a short time as he was soon defeated by Jay Lethal. Lethal also held the title briefly before dropping it to Michael Elgin at the first Generations iPPV – Dawn Of A New Generation. Elgin has proven to be a tough customer since his early days on the Legends roster before the brand split and that was BEFORE he hooked up with Truth Martini! Time will tell just how long he will be able to hold onto the brands most coveted strap.
In the tag division… the ragtag tandem of Kevin Steen & Lance Hoyt (dubbed by the fans as Monsters of the Mat) steamrolled the competition in the tag title tournament. They held onto the straps for most of the month before they were finally beaten by The Briscoes at Dawn Of A New Generation. Dem Boys everything Steen & Hoyt threw at them and managed to take the straps. Steen was quite upset with Hoyt for being pinned and viciously assaulted him thus killing a dominate partnership. Hoyt looks to get his hands on his former partner very soon. Bryan Danielson/Mike Quackenbush vs. The Roughnecks rivalry has been a violent one. Though it may be done on the Generations brand look for it to carry over to the Legends brand as Danielson, Quack, and Brodie Lee have all been traded just after the Dawn Of A New Generation iPPV. At the iPPV Danielson & Quackenbush were victorious but I doubt this rivalry is far from over. The question is who will join Lee’s side once they arrive on the Legends roster???
Sami Callihan has been impressing everyone at the Generations brand with his absolutely fearless attitude. He has had several great matches since the start of the brand especially with Johnny Gargano. The G-TV Title Triple Threat Match at Dawn Of A New Generation between Callihan, Gargano, and champion Claudio Castagnoli stole the show. All three combatants beat the absolute hell out of each other before Gargano had to finally be carried out on a stretcher due to not being able to continue. The match continued for a few more moments with Callihan taking the champ to the extreme with several suicide dives and even the STRETCH MUFFLER. In the end however, Castagnoli would hit a Roaring European Uppercut to (barely) retain the title. Look for Callihan to rise in the ranks in the near future and don’t be surprised if he captures the G-TV title or even Generations title!
Another impressive star has been Rickey Shane Page and his deadly elbow! RSP has managed to put many a competitor down with his finisher. He has come within a hair of winning gold by nearly defeating Bryan Danielson for the Generations Title in the tournament. RSP has what it takes and could definitely go all the way but he’ll have to get past #AllEgo Ethan Page first!
