I know I'm not the only member of this board who listens religiously to both of Jim Cornette's weekly podcasts. I've been listening to Cornette for years now through his carious podcasts and its thanks to his 'promos' on classic wrestling that I got into pro-wrestling from the 70's and 80's in Memphis/Mid-South, The Carolinas and especially The Sheik's Big Time Wrestling in Detroit.
I love listening to Cornette. His knowledge of pro-wrestling history is about as impressive as it gets and he's not only always entertaining, but often insightful when it comes to classic wrestling (especially in the south). I will, however, admit that he may be a little behind the times when it comes to modern wrestling as I simply cannot agree with his opinion on certain matches over the last 5 or so years, especially the Omega / Okada NJPW series from last year.

I enjoy his insights and knowledge, but yeah I get tired of Cornette ranting about the current product. He acts as if there was no goofball stuff especially in Memphis (where it happened quite often) Even Mid South had him shoved into a birthday cake. One of the highlights of the last Galacticon was Mr. Jimmyface winning an auction for Cornette art and then tearing it up in front of everyone after a short speech.

Did he get any heat for that?

I listen to it for his road stories and booking philosophy and things of that nature. I agree with some of what he says about the current product but think he's a grumpy old man about a lot of it.

No real heat. He was defending FG people like Chuck Taylor and Joey Ryan. Especially Taylor.

It was definitely silly, but all in all it was a fun spot. I do however agree with him over the fact that they now do, or did, a slow motion spot every year. As a one off thing it was pretty cool, but when used over and over again it loses its novelty some.

I can't defend Ryan's 'dick spot'. I actually really hate it and agree with Cornette on it.

His grumpiness annoys me sometimes, but all in all, its actually part of his charm. He came from afar different era in the business and his opinions and viewpoints reflect that. I appreciate his honesty and for not BSing people and letting everyone know where they stand with him right off jump street.

I have not listened to Cornette's podcast. While I appreciate classic wrestling, I am a bigger fan of what wrestling has evolved into over the past few years. I absolutely love stuff like DDT and the silly spin on wrestling. What guys like the Young Bucks, Joey Ryan, Colt Cabana, Will Ospreay and Riccochet, etc are doing with the artform is my favorite stuff in wrestling. But like many say, its a different flavor of ice cream for people. Like any form of entertainment these days there is a choice of different sub genres within each genre and wrestling is no different.
I honestly think deep down Cornette appreciates what this new generation is doing to get over and make money in wrestling, and those he rails against appreciate the brand that Cornette has developed for old school fans.

Modern pro-wres, especially on the independents and in Japan is very good. I really enjoy classic wrestling because of that air of realism that modern pro-wres lacks and can never regain. No matter what you say, pro-wres being exposed fundamentally changed the business and I do think wrestling, as a whole, is worse off for it. As far as I'm concerned, the best wrestling to ever grace the squared circle took place in All-Japan during the King's Road era. Obviously it could never last, but that 10/15 years period in Japan featured some of the greatest wrestling matches I have ever seen.
