With my Legends Colour rebooted I am going to turn my attention to my Indy cards. This federation will follow the approximate schedule of Smash Wrestling out to Toronto kicking off with the Northern Tournament. It will be a two-night event will the winner of the tournament being crowded the first Northern Champion!
Card 1 – Northern Indy Wrestling presents . . . The Northern Tournament Night One – The Phoenix Concert Theatre, Toronto, ON
Northern Title Tournament – Round One
El Generico b. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett w/Maria and Brutal Bob
Bennett looked very impressive early on with a solid power attack but the fans urged Generico on and he responded in a big way. An exploder into the buckles forced Bennett to the floor for a regroup but Generico dove to the floor onto Bob & Bennett lighting up ringside. Back in the ring, Bennett survived a SPIKE BRAINBUSTER and then battled out of a BRAINBUSTAAAHHH!!! before Generico planted him with a second SPIKE BRAINBUSTER for the three count while Bob still down and out at ringside.
Tommaso Ciampa DQ Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini
The fans were eating up the exchange of forearms early on. A distraction from Martini allowed Strong to slam Ciampa off the top of the buckles to the mat. Later, Ciampa was able to roll through a cross body deathjump from Strong for a big near fall. Ciampa and Strong battled to the floor where Strong tossed Ciampa into the ringside table knocking the contents everywhere and earning a controversial disqualification.
“Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare” Kevin Steen b. Robert Anthony
Anthony used his agility to keep Steen on the defensive early on and an Ace Crusher forced the action to the floor. Steen took over at ringside getting the best of the brawl. Back inside an F-CINQ was followed by a PACKAGE PILEDRIVER for the three count.
Jay Lethal DQ Adam Cole
Handshake started the match and the exchange of arm drags and counters was awesome. The pace continued to pick up and the fans ate up the action. Lethal Combination landed for a near fall. Cole battled back including a German suplex that planted Lethal on this head. They went to the floor several times until Cole grabbed a chair and walloped Lethal with it stunning the fans. Cole seemed to enjoy his heat and left Lethal in a heap on the floor.
“King of Old School” Steve Corino DQ Rhino w/Truth Martini
Fans knew the potential for a disqualification between these two was high and it did not take long for that very result to occur. Corino lead the action outside but Rhino took control and slammed Corino through the ringside table with a powerslam from the apron in a move that left both men in a heap on the floor and ringside on their feet chanting.
“American Wolf” Davey Richards DQ Arik Royal
This one was back and forth from the outset with both men holding nothing back. The fans ate it up as the exchanged strikes and chops all over the ring and on the floor. Richards took flight with suicide dives to the floor and managed to land kick to death at one point. Royal battled just as hard including To The Last Drop. The action ended up at ringside where Royal, in the heat of the battled, cracked Richards with a chunk of the broken table from the prior match and was disqualified (snake eyes!). The fans were not pleased with the outcome but the action carried on post bell with both men brawling to the back.
“Zombie Princess” Jimmy Jacobs b. Homicide
With four DQs already tonight fans were assuming that this one would end the same way but it was not to be. Not that either man followed the rules in this one however. It was a brawl from the outset but Jacobs wisely locked in THE END OF TIME multiple times in an effort to put Homcide away. They brawled outside the ring where Jacobs used a piece of the ringside table to choke out Homcide. Homcide battled back busting Jacobs open with his fork. Jacobs regained the advantage at ringside with a low blow and then a crack with a chunk of the ringside table. Back in the ring, Jacobs put away Homicide with THE END OF TIME.
“Die Hard” Eddie Edwards b. “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin w/Truth Martini
The hard night for the House of Truth continued in the main event. Elgin looked unstoppable early on as his power attack overwhelmed Edwards. Edwards was able to catch Elgin with a superkick that stopped him cold and then went on the attack including a tiger suplex and a belly to back sit-out facebuster. Elgin was kicked out of a pin attempt but Edwards caught him with diving double knees for the three count.
The field in the battle for the Northern Title was reduced by half tonight with some surprisingly violent encounters that lead to several disqualification finishes. We are back at The Phoenix Concert Theatre tomorrow night with the following matches already announced:
**In women’s tag team action, Re-Generation X takes on the team of Queens of Winning
**Young Bucks will be in action against Rhett Titus & Johnny Yuma, collectively known as The Afterparty
**In yet another tag team attraction, the Briscoe Brother look to prove their superiority when they face Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team
**Four Northern Title Tournament Semi-Final encounters
**Northern Title Tournament four-way elimination match finals!
