Thanks for the feedback cruefan68 . I also wanted Hanson to go further in the tournament but how can you resist having the Nature Boy cheat to win. Valentine is one of my favourite cards as well and he usually does well in the tournaments but the dice had other ideas unfortunately. Williams was a complete bust in my MLW federation so I was not surprised at all when he fell to Hennig in convincing fashion.
Harley Race (4) v. Ivan Kolkoff (29)
Race catches Koloff with an earlier swinging neckbreaker. Kolkoff manages a tackle after being sent into the ropes and then sends Race rebounding into the ropes but Race manages an inside cradle that gets the first pin attempt of the match (R9/P3). Head butts from Race and Kolkoff is slung into the ropes again but Race’s back drop is countered with a kick to the teeth. Koloff takes it to the floor but comes out on the wrong end of the brawl when Race sends him hard into the post busting him open. Back in the ring, Race executes a VERTICAL SUPLEX and gets the three count (R2/P4) ending the match.
Robert Gibson (13) v. The Crusher (20)
Crusher tries to slow things down early with a headlock but it is countered setting up rapid fire knee drops from Gibson. Back elbow smash from Gibson downs Crusher who decides to take a breather and regroup. Gibson is fired up and follows but it is a mistake as Crusher picks up Gibson and rams him back first into the ring post. Stomach claw punishes Gibson before he is tossed to the floor like a sack. Crusher is out after him but Gibson reverses a whip and Crusher goes hard into the post. Crusher is busted open. Back elbow smash to the chin and Gibson follows up with a trip and spinning toe hold. Crusher escapes (R9/P3) but Gibson connects with a moonsault for a two count (R7/P4). The fans are buzzing as Gibson moves in for a GIBSON LEGLOCK. With blood pouring down his face, Crusher makes the ropes (R8/P5). Gibson connects with a flying elbow drop and then unloads with big haymakers. Getting punched seems to actually make Crusher stronger and he takes over with stomps to the body. Belly to belly suplex is countered. Both men are missing moves or countering. Crusher with an elbow drop followed by a lengthy stomach claw that slows thing down. The fans want Gibson to escape and he does by reaching the ropes (R6/P4). CRUSHER NELSON is applied but Gibson quickly backs Crusher into the ropes (R11/P5). Crusher keeps on Gibson and muscles him into a second CRUSHER NELSON this time in the middle of the ring. Gibson cannot escape and Crusher advances (R5/P6).
Hard to pick a favourite match this week. Bockinwkel v. Armstrong, Rogers v. Hanson and Gibson v. Crusher certainly lead the way. I will give it to Rogers v. Hanson just because I enjoyed the finish so much.
Up next . . .
Jerry Lynn (44) v. Pampero Firpo (53)
Lynn has been on fire in my MLW fed even looking good in matches against Lou Thesz so this one should be interesting.
Road Warrior Hawk (28) w/Paul Ellering v. Brutus Beefcake (60)
Beefcake already pulled off a significant first round upset by defeating Jimmy Snuka. Will he put Hawk to sleep as well?
