Never seen a Fast movie and probably will not in the future. Not into big budget bad movies.
I don't always watch the Fast movies but I decided to order Fast X yesterday since I was staying home (I wanted to avoid the large 4th of July crowds on the Strip and Fremont Street) and I was honestly a little interested in this movie since part of it took place in Rome which I will be going to for the first time this December (I am renewing my expiring passport this week.)
The shots of Rome were cool and that is one of the few things the Fast movies do well IMO is showing off the different international locations they visit. But otherwise I thought this movie was stupid and these are some of the many reasons I disliked Fast X (SPOILERS below:)
I know in a recent Fast movie there was a car that traveled into outer space but this movie also had completely unbelievable action sequences such as
-2 people jumping out of plane at 10,000 feet in a kayak
-a car taking down two helicopters and then dragging the helicopters along with it so that the destroyed helicopters also took out the vehicles pursuing the car
- a car flinging itself at a massive crane to force the crane to turn around and knock away an extremely large round and rolling bomb headed to the Vatican that was supposed to take out half of Rome, etc.
I do realize that most action movies contain unbelievable action but Fast X, by how they use their vehicles to do incredible things, is even more preposterous IMO. This was an action movie without any suspense or tension.
- somebody called Mr. Nobody arrests Vin Diesel's character and then shortly afterward tosses Diesel a gun when Diesel is attacked by Jason Momoa's character only to again turn on Diesel to show he was working with Momoa all along, none of that was convincing.
- Two characters who are friends inexplicably start fighting each other and then immediately make up afterward. I think this happened 4 (at least 3) different times (all with different sets of friends) in the movie.
- Don't get me wrong, I think family is important. But I don't think this almost 2 1/2 movie goes
5 minutes without mentioning "family" multiple times. Do they really need to beat the audience in the head with the theme of the movie like this?
From what I understand, this movie is the first in a trilogy (which explains the non-ending of the movie) to supposedly end the Fast movies (not sure if that will actually happen though with the Box Office these moves make for reasons I do not understand) but I am not sure I will see the next two movies.
