I got back a few hours ago from Los Angeles and seeing BOLA last night and I once again had an awesome time at PWG!
Before the show, I met Cman at this small Mexican restaurant called El Cancun just down the street from the union hall where PWG runs their shows. The food was awesome and authentic even though the waitress screwed up part of my order (but I think that was more of a language issue with our waitress than an actual service quality issue). But my dinner was delicious so I will probably go there again to eat when I go to my next PWG show in Reseda, a great restaurant find by Cman!
After eating, we went over to the union hall and the line was pretty long- but we could have cared less since we had front row reserved seats. The line wasn't quite as long as the one me and Toasterboy waited in for Threemendous II back in July, but I was still surprised when I saw fans show up after us and act stunned about the size of the line (yeah, it's the last night of the Battle of Los Angeles and right at the time they're going to open up the doors- so why wouldn't there be a line? ).
Before the show started, the ring announcer said whoever owns this one Toyota left their lights on and as the owner got up to turn of his lights he got serenaded with chants of "You f'd up" by everyone in attendance.
Some thoughts of some of the matches I saw during the show:
The opening segment for the first match of the Quarter-Finals between Joey Ryan and Brian Kendrick was hilarious as Ryan said he spent the day at Disneyland, the happiest place on earth, to prepare for his match against Kendrick and gave Kendrick a mouse ears hat with the word "Brian" threaded on it only to get attacked by an angry Kendrick to start off the match. Ryan won to advance and that was one of the only results I didn't pick correctly for this night.
Omega vs Lost. Awesome match. It was obvious to me when Omega's music played that he was the crowd's pick to win the tournament and at the end of the night alot of people went home happy.
Intermission. They played Bad Religion's "Los Angeles is Burning" which is a great song for the Battle of Los Angeles:
During intermission I went to the PWG merchandise table and asked about getting the DVD for their September show "Guerre Sans Frontiers" which was Bryan Danielson's final PWG appearance when he won the PWG title from Chris Hero. But that DVD was sold out, so instead I bought a ROH DVD called "Chicago's Elite: The Best of the Second City Saints" which is a DVD of ROH matches of PWG's Colt Cabana and his former tag team partner CM Punk. I then bought a cup of beer at the bar before going back to my seat.
Colt Cabana/Johnny Goodtime//Jerome LTP Robinson vs Austin Aries/The Cutler Brothers. Colt Cabana was hilarious in this match. I still really don't understand why the WWE didn't keep Colt Cabana. At one point, the action spilled outside of the ring right onto our seats. But I saw it coming, so I grabbed/saved my beer that I bought at intermission and got out of the way in time.
Brandon Gatson vs Roderick Strong. Gatson is a great wrestler and received a big push in this tournament with his wins over Nick Jackson and Alex Shelley. But, although I think Gatson is going to do well with PWG in the future, as expected Roderick Strong won to advance to the finals to take on Kenny Omega who defeated Joey Ryan (one of the most popular wrestlers in PWG) in the other Quarter-Finals match.
Young Bucks vs Kevin Steen and El Generico. Best PWG match I've seen among all 3 of the PWG shows I went to this year! This was the first time I've ever seen Kevin Steen "Mr. Wrestling" wrestle and, although I think he is an amazing wrestler, his character is really disgusting. Both me and Cman at one point thought the Young Bucks were finally going to lose their title but the Young Bucks managed to win after giving Steen multiple superkicks that kept dropping him closer to the mat after each kick and then the Young Bucks got the victory.
5 minute intermission. Me and cman went outside and this one dude in a DX shirt told his friend he doesn't like the Young Bucks but he respects their ability and I told Cman I could say the same thing about DX. But alot of the talk around us by the other fans who also went outside to smoke or whatever during this break was excitement about the Young Bucks match because it really was that good (even better IMO then their great match against 2 Skinny Black Guys at Threemendous II back in July and I really liked that match alot).
Kenny Omega vs Roderick Strong, tournament finals. Great match, but I wish they could have kept more of it in the ring as some of it spilled outside of our view and of course there is no Titan Tron in PWG's union hall. At one point, Omega and Strong were chopping each other's chest outside of the ring just inches away from the heads of me and Cman. Omega won and the crowd was extremely pleased. Afterward Omega got jumped by the Young Bucks and Brian Kendrick but saved by his enemy El Generico and also Colt Cabana. Omega and El Generico then became friends and El Generico placed the PWG World Championship around Omega's waist and this made me wonder what is going to happen in the future with Omega and his tag team partner Chuck Taylor.
Afterward, some more cool stuff happened that I can't talk about yet (but someday I have an absolute awesome story to tell ).
