(Pinfall – Styles Clash)
Match Highlights:
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles came up big in the main event as he successfully defended the LOW World Heavyweight title against former three-time champion Bobo Brazil. LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox ruled that the loser of the match, in this case Brazil, would become the special referee in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Card #1124) when Andre the Giant gets his rematch for the title. Brazil had a decided size advantage not to mention his world title experience but Styles is an incredible performer who is on a roll like few others have enjoyed in LOW. His world title victory over the previously undefeated Andre put him in a place that no other athlete in LOW history could claim to be. Styles used his decided speed advantage to counter Brazil’s size and in the end, he planted him with a Styles Clash to score the pin and retain the title in his version two defense. Brazil spoke with PWI Editor Bill Apter backstage afterward and said that while he is disappointed in losing the match he credits Styles for being a fighting champion. He added that when he dons the referee shirt in Montreal he will call it down the line and may the best man win.
The Midnight Rockers (Stan Lane & Marty Jannetty) overcame a serious disadvantage to make history in Toronto as they defeated the Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey & Bobby Eaton) to win the LOW World tag team titles. Manager Jim Cornette was thrilled to have Condrey back from his injury layoff even though he claimed that he could substitute and beat the Rockers by himself. The Express are a well-oiled machine as evidenced by five reigns as LOW World tag team champions but there was a question going in if Condrey would be back at one-hundred percent from his injury. Cornette always has a game plan and this time it was to have his men jump the Rockers before the bell. The plan worked initially as Condrey and Eaton took turns punishing Lane as Jannetty, who was hit in the back by a tennis racquet shot from Cornette on the floor, tried to get back up on the ring apron. Things were going great for Cornette and his men until a surprise counter by Lane led to the Rockers hitting a Flapjack on Eaton with Jannetty diving on him to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as Cornette fell to his knees realizing that the titles had slipped away.
LOW Junior Heavyweight and IWA J-Crown champion Tiger Mask, the busiest man in LOW, ventured to Toronto to defend the former against the strange Lord Zoltan, a member of the Army of Darkness headed up by Kevin Sullivan. Bruiser Brody stormed down to ringside before the match to fend of Sullivan who attempted to stay at ringside for the championship match. The two battled all over ringside and back to the locker room as a preview of their upcoming singles match in Montreal. Zoltan did not seem bothered by the disappearance of Sullivan as he took the fight to Tiger Mask in what turned into an incredible bout. Zoltan took some short cuts, like using foreign objects, but was unable to get a pin. Tiger Mask wowed the crowd hitting his trademark Space Flying Tiger Drop late in the bout before scoring the pin using the Tiger Suplex. It was a successful version one defense of the LOW Junior Heavyweight title for the popular masked star.
The continuing Real World Tag League sponsored by Kings Road United featured both A Block and B Block matches in Toronto. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) picked up a crucial A Block win over the tough duo of Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov. Using their finesse and teamwork The Fantastics kept their larger foes off balance and picked up the win with a Rocket Launcher on Zhukov. The win enabled the popular duo to join Giant Baba & The Destroyer and Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito in a three-way tie for the top spot in the A Block. The B Block saw a fourth team join the tie for the top spot as Da Hit Squad (Monsta Mack & Dan Maff) picked up an impressive win over War Machine (Hanson & Raymond Rowe). Hanson took a great beating, including being busted open, but refused to go down as he escaped some serious pin attempts by Da Hit Squad. Rowe tried to go it alone late but Da Hit Squad took him out when Mack pinned him with the Mack Splash.
