[glow=red,2,300]What Has Gone Before[/glow]
The GWF held its first card in 2074, under the direction of co-founders Omega and Morpheus, in an attempt to provide a positive outlet for some of the hostilities that had arisen between Earth and its colonies in the wake of the Skaarj War. Their best efforts almost went up in smoke, as the tournament to crown the first GWF Galaxian Heavyweight Champion was won by the black-hearted Bullwhip, who sought (along with his partner, Blacklash) to turn the GWF into an orgy of violence. Morpheus and Omega would spend the next two years battling with the Blackhearts for control of the GWF before the rowdy team was finally driven out of the federation for good.
The next four years were a period of gradual expansion for the GWF, as new talents debuted from various locations throughout the Earth System (and, in a few cases, from beyond). This was an era of pronounced sportsmanship, with few truly heated "feuds" between competitors and some classic matches between the stars of the era: Omega, Morpheus, K.O. Keller, Hyperion, and (until his retirement) Torin Caelum.
It came as no surprise that the popularity of the GWF led to the emergence of smaller imitators throughout the colonies. Equally unsurprisingly, without the support of the GWF's rabid fan base (and, after a peculiar set of circumstances involving The Estorians, a tactile holographic imaging unit, and the GWF Tag Team Titles, the Interplanetary Parliament), these federations folded, and some of their bigger stars made their way to the GWF. Bringing a hardcore, "garbage" style with them, independent talents like Crow, Dogma, Kindred, Kanazawa, The Elitists, and Ultraspank made an immediate impact, and for the first time in GWF history, intentional injuries became a regular occurence. While injuries and violence cut many of their careers short, it took the better part of four years for Omega and Morpheus to eliminate what they considered a "bad influence" from the GWF.
The period between 2084 and 2087 was a turbulent time for the GWF. The differences of opinion between Omega and Morpheus finally boiled over, and they began recruiting wrestlers to their respective causes in a battle that ended only with Morpheus' retirement in 2085. Without missing a beat, his minions fell in with new arrival Jack Hood--the leader of the long-folded POW, who orchestrated several attacks on "Omega's Boys." After permanent injuries were inflicted on Dragon Fighter, Thantos, and the Deimos Rockers (Tano and Rama), the entire GWF finally rallied around Omega to drive Jack Hood and his most loyal followers (The Hooligans, Vice, and Polarity) out of the federation.
At that point, however, the damage had been done. Too many personal issues had been raised, and too much blood had been spilled--and the fans wanted more. Factions began to form along lines of common belief (Exo-King nad his Royal Court), Colonial origin (The Titans), and--in some cases--brute force (Krakan's Society of Death). No group was more feared than the savage Aethran contingent which had debuted late in 2085 and held a virtual stranglehold on the Tag Team Titles--at least until their hated rivals, the Kilrathi Hunting Party, debuted in 2088.
Speaking of 2088, that was the year Omega finally announced his formal retirement from ring action to become the full-time Commissioner of the GWF. Over the next few years, he recruited a number of talents to the federation; some were noble combaants who rallied behind the Commissioner. Others were brutal fighters who only received contracts because Omega's hand was forced by an alliance of rivals who threatened to boycott the shows otherwise. Omega also took an active hand in training young talents, and men like Beast Rider and Pulsar found their careers blossoming under Omega's guidance.
Perhaps Omega's involvement with certain competitors became a little too personal. Allegations of favoritism began to surface, and by 2091, it had become obvious even to Omega's biggest fans that he was much more strict when punishing his enemies than his supporters. With the Championship Committee beginning to step in to overturn some of Omega's more questionable rulings, the "Impeach Omega" movement began to gather strength, culminating in a six-man match at Starcade 91 pitting Horsemen Pulsar Prime, Paragon, and Thantos against Star Warrior, Hyperion, and The Matador. In the end, The Matador turned on his partners to cost them the match, and as a result of a pre-match stipulation, Omega was forced to step down from his position.
It is now the beginning of 2092. The GWF finds itself without a Commissioner for the first time in four years, and without a leader for the first time in its history. The Championship Committee reigns by default (and with little imagination) while they search for a new commissioner, and the entire GWF prepares to enter a new era.
Welcome to the Antimony Age!
