Inferno Series
I run the GalactiCup each year for a shot at the Galaxian Heavyweight Championship; it is my one singles tournament I plan to keep going through the years. However, I want to create an end of the year series of matches between the top two contenders. I have entitled this the Inferno Series.
Basically, due to Star Warrior and Wolf being my top two contenders for Thantos' newly won strap at my mid-year rankings, I'll run a series of nine matches (9 Circles of Hell -- Dante's Inferno) with the two. The winner will face the Galaxian Champion at the year end PPV. The time frame will be from GWF Deconstruction #16-#24 (my bi-weekly card). The 25th card of the year is a PPV I have yet to give a name.
What should I do with my current champ at the time? Thantos is the champ, Nexus and Massif are right behind Star Warrior and Wolf. Would it make sense for Thantos to defend the title against Nexus and Massif while this series is going on? I don't know how I feel with Thantos not defending the title that long, and I'd like to see Wolf hold the gold before year in. It wouldn't bother me if Thantos wasn't the champ by the PPV.
Do you think this will work at all?
Thoughts?
Would you scratch the idea or book it differently?
Is nine matches too much?
I just really like the gimmick.

Great gimmick, run with it, 9 matches is just fine. I'd just have the champ defend the title like normal and whoever the champ is at the time, that's the one they'll have to face. That's the beauty of this game, seeing who'll be there at the end and no matter who, it'll be a great match up. Also what's involved in this Inferno series, are they just straight matches or specialty? Love the name and I may use it if I may.

Avarice, I'm a huge fan of your GWF, so you can use the Inferno Series gimmick anytime. I'm thinking of making these matches gimmicks matches. I'll start out with a standard match, then run down the list. That would make nine if the series goes that far. By the way, what is the Hitman match? Also, what does a Survival match entail?

The challenge with booking a fixed amount of Head to Head matches is that you run the risk of a diminishing return. Imagine Wolf sweeps Star Warrior in the first 5 matches. The remaining four are anticlimactic because Wolf has already won the series. Now imagine Star Warrior wins the remaining four. You now have to sell a slumping Wolf as the top contender to Thantos. Quite a conundrum. I'd suggest doing a head to head in 'best of' style so that the winner clinches with some form of momentum. If you wanted to stick with the 9 Circles of Hell idea (I like the concept) I would have any remaining matches on the program after the 'best of' clinch be a series forced tag matches with cooperation enforced under threat of suspension. That in itself would be a form of hell. Imagine Star Warrior & Wolf vs Proteus & Omega (a best friend and a father). Check out the Parejas Incredibles Match

With the talk of gauntlets as of late, it got me thinking maybe this could be ran that way too. Say top 10 in rankings or just 10 random guys. Start with 10 and 9 in a specialty match, then winner goes on vs. #8 in another specialty match...and down the line each with a different match. It could end up vs. champ or just to determine a #1 contender. I may also use this as an annual event. My fed is gonna be chalked full of gauntlets with different things, but I think I may like it.

That's a good idea, but I'm going to keep thinking...
