They should've had Santino actually win it last year. That would've completely restored faith that "anyone" can truly win it. Although Del Rio winning was still a bit of a surprise.

I gotta go with Shawn Michaels. At the time he won his Rumbles, he needed to evolve from the Intercontinental plane to the main event plane. I don't think that he could have gotten the fans to buy into him without those wins. Not talking about ability as a performer, but as the perception of the fans. It gave him some traction and leverage to get his career to the next phase, and again, I don't think he could have done that without winning his Rumble matches.
