Live 10 PM EST on PPV. Werdum makes his return after a stint in Strikeforce. Diaz/Condit is for the interim WW title. A Koscheck win could put him back in the title picture if GSP's recovery time lags.
Main Card
Nick Diaz (169) vs Carlos Condit (169) Fabricio Werdum (246) vs Roy Nelson (246) Mike Pierce (170) vs Josh Koscheck (170) Clifford Starks (185) vs Ed Herman (185) Scott Jorgensen (135) vs Renan Barao (136)

Ah, to order or not to order. I've not missed a UFC in 7 years but just wasted cash on Rumble. Used to alternate PPVs with a buddy but he's bailed out due to finances. It's either this or the Bendo/Edgar card. That card is much much deeper than tonight but I'm a huge Condit fan. Of course, if Diaz wins I'd be pissed spending money to order it and I've got a bad feeling about it. First Facebook fight was awesome and it's getting me stoked to order though.

Well. Caved in and ordered. Even though Bendo/Edgar is better card, I'm a bigger fan of Condit and Pierce than anybody on the Japan card. Now if both of them lose I'll be very very cranky.

Well, that went pretty well. 1 for 2 isn't bad although I thought Pierce won but unlike Nick Diaz, I ain't no B.....

Awesome fight tonight. Condit definitely won but it was close.
I have never been much of a Werdum fan but he looked great tonight as well.

Video: Nick Diaz announces his retirement during his post fight interview...
"I'm not going to accept the fact that this was a loss. I've lost fights before, where, you know, like, I'm not going to accept that either.
"This ain't right. I pushed him back the whole fight. I walked him down. I got the take down. I'm the guy who went on top. Had I thought I wasn't ahead, right I'd bet you anything i'd have finished that arm lock.
"Hey Carlos is a great guy, I'm happy for him and his family.
"I think I'm done with this MMA. It's been great out here. I've had a good career. You guys pay me way too much, but I don't think I'm going to get enough to keep going in this. It's been a good time. You know Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Good job Carlos, you're the man, bro.
""I don't need this shit. I pushed this guy backward the whole time, and he ran from me the whole fight. He ran this whole fight.
"He didn't throw. I landed the harder shots. He ran the whole time. He kicked me in the leg with little baby leg kicks the whole fight. That's the way they understand how to win in here, so I don't want to play this game no more."
"... I'm out of this shit."

All I'll say about that fight is three things -
1) I totally agree with Diaz. I've never liked how UFC scores their fights.
2) most times the path of most resistance is what it takes to get the most important things in life. Diaz was supposed to fight GSP. Instead Condit will get that fight. GSP will win and if Nate doesn't quit he'll fight GSP then.
3) GSP will probably just lay on Diaz for 5 rounds and Diaz will lose, get pissed and want to quit again anyways.

The way the UFC fights are judged have always been questionable. Dana White always says, "Don't leave it in the hands of the judges." That is such a ridiculous statement. You shouldn't be scared that the judges will totally screw things up. They should be able to look at a fight and judge it properly.
Dana White should add to his statement with, "Don't leave it up to the judges because they all suck." I gotta agree with Diaz, too. It has to be frustrating to lose a fight that you clearly think you controlled.
The UFC needs to train its own judges. The ones they get from state athletic commissions obviously aren't doing a very good job.

The UFC has no control over the selection of judges (or referees) for its US events. Each State Athletic Commission decides qualification standards and event appointments. Zuffa has no say in it whatsoever.
One thing I would like to see instituted is the use of enforceable warnings for stalling, evading and inactivity. In Pride, there was no incentive to 'point fight'. A fighter would be warned outright for not 'fighting with an intent to finish'. A second warning would be a 10% hit to their purse. A third warning would be an outright disqualification, netting the losers purse. Changing the incentives would move away from encouraging point fighting and deter the problems that foster unentertaining fights, such as wall and stall (pushing the opponent against the fence with no intent to advance), lay and pray (gaining top position through a takedown and then not attempting to advance) and strike and bike (counter striking an advancing opponent without an intent to finish, and then running away to reset and repeat the pattern all fight long). Under the current rules, those are 'smart tactics' that usually win the favor of the judges.
