I drove through the desert all night and I just got home from PWG's DDT4. Since I had to miss the March show, this was the first PWG show I have attended since Kurt Russellreunion III back in January at Wrestle Reunion 6. That may not sound like a long time between shows, but the last time I went 3 months between going to PWG shows was back in 2009.
I got to the Legion Hall and stood in line as security told everyone to have everything out of their pockets by the time they get to the front of the line. One guy then asked "are you going to frisk us?" Security said "yes" which immediately led to about 30-50 people in the line pumping both their fists in the air and chanting "Yes! Yes! Yes!" at security.
Once I got inside the Legion Hall, I bought the DVD for Kurt Russellreunion III and a beer before finding an empty front row seat which ironically was the exact same front row seat that I sat in for last year's DDT4. I wish I got there just a little earlier as El Generico was selling his new Ole t-shirt. But perhaps instead I can still buy it from El Generico next weekend in Chicago?
At the merchandise table, PWG World Champion and PWG World Tag Team Champion Kevin Steen was selling a new shirt that I had not seen before. It's not Steen's "Evil" shirt that you can order on the ROH website. Instead it is a shirt about Steen's upcoming opponent, ROH World Champion Davey Richards, at the next ROH IPPV. Steen's new shirt says something about Davey Richards which I am not sure i can post on the board.
1st round results:
1) RockNES Monsters defeated Fightin' Taylor Boys. the Taylors however got in alot of offense in this match and received alot of support from the crowd which chanted "Fight Taylors Fight!"
2) Future Shock defeated The Dynasty.
3) Two Husky Black Guys (Willie Mack and El Generico) defeated Roderick Strong and Sami Callihan. When El Genericio teamed with Human Tornado in PWG, they were called Two Skinny Black Guys. Now that Generico is teaming with Mack, their tag team name was announced as Two Husky Black Guys. This match marked Callihan's PWG debut and after he got pinned Callihan got on the microphone to say he wanted to accept Steen's open challenge for a title shot tonight which I expected based on what Steen and Callihan have been saying to each other on Twitter recently.
4) Super Smash Brothers defeated the Young Bucks. It appeared that the Bucks were about to advance as Nick Jackson super kicked Player Uno on the apron and the Bucks then went for MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK on Stupefied (Player Dos.) but instead, as Nick Jackson was climbing the turnbuckle, Stupefied suddenly rolled up Matt Jackson for the pin.
Intermission. I bought one more $3.00 beer.
5) Two Husky Black Guys defeated the RockNES Monsters.
- This match ended when Johnny Goodtime threw El Generico out of the ring right in front of me. Fatigued, El Generico sat in the seat right next to me. If I was sitting in the center of the front row on any side of the ring whatsoever (no guard rails at PWG), I immediately would have got out of the way as it is in the center where once a wrestler sits down or gets tossed out that his opponent will come diving through the ropes after him. But I was sitting in the front row partly behind one of the corner turnbuckles, so I did not think anything of it until suddenly Goodtime hurdles himself over the entire turnbuckle and launches himself right at El Generico who was sitting right next to me. I started backing my seat out of the way and thankfully Goodtime mostly hit El Generico- but the impact did push my seat back. Right as that happened, Mack pinned Johnny Yuma and Two Husky Black Guys advanced to the finals.
6) Super Smash Brothers defeated Future Shock in arguably the match of the night. Although Kyle O'Reilly and Adam Cole don't currently team anymore in ROH, I am glad PWG keeps Future Shock together as a tag team because they have had some incredible tag matches since they debuted in PWG back at Steen Wolf last October.
7) PWG World Champion Kevin Steen defeated Sami Callihan. To start the match, Steen and Callihan brawled around the Legion Hall and at one point were throwing each other around just inches away from me. Steen yanked a Super Dragon mask off of the head of one fan and proceeded to wear the mask of his tag team partner while attacking Callihan. Steen also for awhile put on Callihan's jacket during the match. At one point in the match, as Callihan lay on the mat a fan called for Steen to do his moonsault. Steen looked at the fan and asked "Did you buy my new shirt?" The fan said "not yet" and Steen then flicked him off and told him no moonsault. Steen however did go for the moonsault, but Callihan got his knees up to take over on offense but Steen won to retain the PWG World Championship.
- Afterward, Steen said he is going to go back to the East Coast to dominate a certain fed and Callihan is going to go back to the East Coast to dominate another fed, but they will come back to wrestle in the best fed- PWG. Steen told Callihan "Welcome to PWG!"
- I really enjoyed seeing Steen vs Callihan last night in Los Angeles and now I am really looking forward to seeing Steen vs Eddie Kingston next Saturday in Chicago!
8) Super Smash Brothers defeated Two Husky Black Guys to win DDT4. I admit I was surprised by the Super Smash Brothers winning DDT4, but I like them and I am glad they will apparently continue to be in PWG for awhile.
- Afterward the Young Bucks appeared and attacked both SSB and Two Husky Black Guys before Steen (who was doing commentary with Excalibur at the time) made the save. After they were chased from the ring by Steen the Young Bucks said they wanted a rematch to regain the PWG World Tag Team Championship from Steen and Super Dragon. Steen then praised the SSB and Mack, but said he still does not like Generico before leaving the ring.
I had a great time at PWG (my personal favorite fed) last night! I had to miss PWG's March show and based on my schedule it is possible I may also have to miss PWG's May and June shows (but I am almost positive I can make PWG's 9th anniversary show- Threemendous III?- in July and I will likley be at the August show too. I am hoping PWG schedules their August show- which last year was the Battle of Los Angeles- for the same weekend as Summerslam which I am attending for the 3rd straight year this summer.)
