Hello, I am a returning player (my last set was Sudden Death 2095 back in the early 90's, I was like 14 or 15 back then) I have jumped back on board with the "New Beginnings" set and had a few questions:
1) How in the world do you decide who the champ should be in your fed.? A tournament maybe??? The sample card on the back of the new beginnings has Endgame listed as champion. Should I go with that? What were some of your guys ideas? When I was a lad I started off Star Warrior as champ.
2) I need a refresher course on the Agility and Power Ratings. The instruction booklet reads that a -4 is excellent and a +4 is poor. WTF? - better and a + poor? Shouldn't that be the other way around??? How do you take the numbers into account during a match. My game didn't come with a sample match so I can't consult that for a detailed example.
3) Cage ratings. How are they used? Do you roll two 6d and the lower number is the winner or escapes cage. Does it increase like pin tokens if you are unsuccessful? again, no sample match for reference.
4) On the back of the Disaster playing card on Level 2 Offense there is a move that reads:
"6.Decapitator-3 Add 1"
"Add 1" what? I couldn't find the explanation of this in my printed materials.
also on back of the Havoc playing card there is a move that reads:
"6. AETHRAN ATROCITY (+2) tag"
am I suppose to roll for a tag of 6 or less to see if the finisher is successful?
5) How do some of you players store and protect your cards? Are there any special baseball card like sleeve you can buy or do you Laminate them? My cards from the early 90's are starting to yellow a bit. I currently use a paper clip to hold my characters together in their respective factions but the paper clip method kind of wears the corners a bit.
Any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

I did a tournament to decide my champion. Because my champion at the time (Thunder) left the GWF at the end of 2118, I had to determine a new champion at he start of 2119 and Disaster won my tournament.
Add 1 moves mean you add 1 to the opponent's PIN rating before he rolls on L3D (Level 3 Defense) and then if you roll PIN at that time you then add another 1 to the opponent's PIN rating if that PIN/submission attempt is unsuccessful.
Cage ratings work just like PIN ratings.

Any move that is followed by a "tag" designator means that the move can only be performed with a partner in a tag match.
SO, along with what Vegas mentioned, if you a move that end with "-3 add 1 tag" that means you would add1 to the opponent's pin rating before they roll l3d, but the move only works if it's a tag match.

- is better than + because it has an effect on the dice rolls when using the choice situation chart options in the advanced rules. Instructions on (ch ) chart state, for example, on ch D a wrestler may try reverse atomic drop-3 (works on roll of 9 or lower, plus or minus opponent's agility) or full nelson suplex-(works on 9 or lower, plus or minus opponent's power). So if a wrestler has -4 agility the atomic drop would only work on a roll of 5 or lower instead of 9, giving the wrestler on defense a much better chance of countering the move. Conversely, if a wrestler had +2 agility the move would work on a roll of 11 or lower, meaning it would almost always work (+3 or +4 would make the move an automatic hit).
As for champ, I always just did a tournament.

Welcome back! You are gonna fall in love again! 1) How in the world do you decide who the champ should be in your fed? Tournament is how i did it...but in my first run i did went with what Tom had on the handbook...in staying Star Warrior was. Of the two, i would go with a tournament...really opens it up for lots of stories lines, both according to the book and spontaneous with tournament match results. 2) I need a refresher course on the Agility and Power Ratings. The instruction booklet reads that a -4 is excellent and a +4 is poor. WTF? - better and a + poor? Shouldn't that be the other way around??? How do you take the numbers into account during a match? Yep seems backwards...I think Tom explained it once to me, but i don't remember. Negative numbers are better in the GWF...you'll get used to it again. An example...Endgame goes for his running knee lift (#3 on level 1 offense) in a match with Disaster...since Endgame has -3 agility rating compared to Disaster's -1 agility rating, the move is successful and Disaster rolls on level 2 defense. - 3 is better then -1. Say Endgame goes for his waistlock suplex (#5 on level 1 offense) in the same match...Endgame has a -3 power rating and Disaster has a -4 power rating...Disaster would take over on level 2 offense because his better power means that Endgame was unsuccessful in completing the move. -4 is better than -3. If both wrestlers have the same rating, then you play where the move works in similar fashion to the first example. Cage ratings. How are they used? Do you roll two 6d and the lower number is the winner or escapes cage. Does it increase like pin tokens if you are unsuccessful? Used just like pin rating fir matches that take place in a cage or cell. Rather than using the pin rating on level 3 defense in these matches refer to this number when rolling pins. Tokens do increase just like other matches for unsuccessful pins or escape attempts. Basically when someone rolls a pin in a cage match it is assumed the opponent is trying to escape the cage, either through the door or over the top. On the back of the Disaster playing card on Level 2 Offense there is a move that reads: "6.Decapitator-3 Add 1" "Add 1" what? I couldn't find the explanation of this in my printed materials. also on back of the Havoc playing card there is a move that reads: "6. AETHRAN ATROCITY (+2) tag" am I suppose to roll for a tag of 6 or less to see if the finisher is successful? "Add 1" moves are signature moves that are so devastating that they add one token to the opponent's pin rating! They don't lead directly to a pin, but cause major damage! For the FINISHER (+2) "tag"...these are tag team finishers...meaning that they can only be used in tag team matches. So Havoc rolls Aethran Atrocity in a tag match with teammate Paralyze...the opponent adds 2 to the pin rating and rolls for pin. If Havoc wrestles a singles match, he cannot perform the move, because he only does half of it, so you have to re-roll on level 3 offense for a move he can accomplish in a singles match. How do some of you players store and protect your cards? Are there any special baseball card like sleeve you can buy or do you Laminate them? My cards from the early 90's are starting to yellow a bit. I currently use a paper clip to hold my characters together in their respective factions but the paper clip method kind of wears the corners a bit. There have been multiple threads on this...some laminate their cards...others have found various sheet protectors (i use 5 x 8 sheet protectors and mini folders to hold them...C-Line products Style #62058) one other promoter uses "passport protectors" (you can find them at office depot)...do a search on the broad for card protection (or protecting cards) and you'll see. Again, welcome back! If you have any more questions just post them...the members of the board are standing by with answers!

While I agree with and tend to use tournaments to decide vacant titles, I've also found that a Battle Royal is a good way to award championships, especially if you want quick results. On at least one occasion, I used a Battle Royal to decide the Universal and Intergalactic titles. The last two men in the ring for this 20-man battle royal were awarded belts based on who won. The bout took about 30 minutes, and I had two champs decided right away.

I don't think anyone said this yet. Any (tag) move, whether it has add 1 or is a finisher, it also means the partner is now the legal man in the ring.

My way of crowning a champ is to do a battle royal with the top three advancing to a tournament. The #2 and #3 fight a regular match advancing to fight against the winner of the battle royal. However, the winner of the #2 and #3 retains all fatigue counters earned during the semi-final match.

The reason the - is better than the + is for the choice chart. The higher the number the better off the move can be pulled off.
