NAPWA Year 1 Card 6 04.25 from the Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston Texas- Singles Match - Larry Hennig defeated ”King” Bobby Shane by disqualification. Match Notes: This was a text book example of what happens when one man fights angry and another man fight smart. The Ax, making his in ring debut after coming to the ring last week to break up the three on one beat down The King and the Hamilton Wrecking Crew were administering to his son Curt, started out strong and hot; delivering repeated vicious chops to Shane's chest. But The King weathered the initial storm and then systematically took the elder Hennig apart. The King forced Hennig to submit to the Japanese Sleeper, but then, in an act of viciousness, refused to release the hold, causing the referee to reverse the decision and award the match to Larry Hennig via DQ. - Tag Team Match - The All Night Express defeated Hillbilly Jim & George “The Animal” Steele via pinfall after a spinning leg lariat. Match Notes: After Kenny King picked up an impressive win on card #5 over Hillbilly Jim, everyone's favorite Kentuckian went out and got a partner in the form of George "The Animal" Steele! Unfortunately for Mudlick's favorite son, Kenny King continues to be a riddle he can't solve, and The Animal wasn't any help. The match had barely gotten going when King caught Steele with a spinning leg lariat out of nowhere! The Animal was knocked out and King made a quick and surprisingly easy cover. . - Singles Match - Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) battled Mr. Siato (with Johnny V.) to a double disqualification. Match Notes: The bad blood between Johnny V.'s V Foundation and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine continues to boil. This battle between Jimmy Hart's second generation star and V.'s Asian enforcer was a hotly contested, back and forth affair. Unfortunately, just as things were getting good, the referee found himself sandwiched in the corner between these combatants. In a controversial decision that displeased everyone, the referee proceeded to disqualify both men over the incident. - Singles Match -Afa Jr. defeated ”Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilber via pinfall after the "Lights Out". Match Notes: Afa Jr. continues to be impressive, picking up a one-sided victory over Eddie Gilbert. The Samoan Savage got a near fall with a quick roll up in the corner soon after the bell rang, and then immediately followed it up with the "Lights Out" suplex for the win. - Singles Match - Magnum T.A. defeated Hacksaw Jim Duggan (with Johnny V.) via pinfall after an atomic drop Match Notes: Magnum T.A. continues to steamroll through the competition, this time getting the better of Johnny V.'s brawler, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Though interference from "The Luscious One" gave Duggan a few (very) brief flurries of offense, this one was all Magnum, who picked up the "W" after hitting Duggan with an atomic drop. - Singles Match -Earl Robert of Eaton defeated ”Handsome” Harley Race (with Jimmy Hart) by disqualification. Match Notes: This one stole the show as these two tag team specialists got to show what they could do in singles action. "Handsome" Harley seemed, for a time, that he would cruise to an easy victory, hitting his devastating vertical suplex early in the match. But Earl Robert would not go quietly as he continually battled back. At one point, it seemed Earl Robert had turned the tide as he hit three "Tower of London" leg drops in a row! But after each one, Race stunned the crowd and Eaton by getting his shoulder up. At the end of the match, after a 4th "Tower of London" leg drop, Race's manager Jimmy Hart got involved. He distracted the referee and Eaton, allowing Race to recover and to retrieve Hart's megaphone from the corner. Race nailed Eaton with it, but the referee saw and awarded the match to the Blue Blood via disqualification. - Singles Match -Colt Cabana defeated Kurgan (with Johnny V.) via pinfall after a flying hip attack. Match Notes: From the outset, Cabana used superior agility to keep the South African giant on the defensive. Cabana got several near falls with the Colt .45 and the folding Lou Thesz press, and was finally able to put the big man away after a series of flying hip attacks. - Tag Team Match -Lou Thesz and Giant Baba defeated One Man Gang and North American Champion ”Classy” Freddie Blassie(with Jimmy Hart) via submission to a double wristlock Match Notes: A disappointing main event. North American Champion "Classy" Freddie Blassie never got into the ring, except to break up two early pinfalls (on the second such attempt, he was intercepted by Giant Baba, whom Blassie clearly wanted no part of). As a result, the story here, once again, was One Man Gang getting his clock cleaned and disappointing manager Jimmy Hart, who left with out him after Lou Thesz forced Gang to submit to a double wristlock.

- Lots of disappointment in card #6, as those matches which didn’t end in disqualification were highly one sided affairs. The only real bright spot was the battle between Earl Robert of Eaton and ”Handsome” Harley Race, and even that ended in a disqualification. At card #7 we’ll see if these men’s partners can put on as good a match when Squire David Taylor faces off with ”The One” Billy Gunn. -While The Blue Bloods and The Blond Bombers are jockeying for position, NAPWA Tag Team Champions The Vachons will be in action on card #7, taking on the impressive duo of Afa Jr. and Chris Candido in a non-title match. -In another big tag team match, One Man Gang gets another chance to get out of Jimmy Hart’s dog house, when he will team up with Greg “The Hammer” Valentine to battle Johnny V.’s Mr. Fuji & Mr. Siato. - ”King” Bobby Shane, for his refusal to wake up Larry Hennig has joined his new allies The Hamilton Wrecking Crew on the suspended list. Shane received a 4 card suspension, to go with the Tolos Brothers’ 5 card suspension, so all three will be allowed to return after card #10. ”Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig is expected to be able to return to action from the injuries these three inflected sometime around card #12. Larry Hennig will be in action on card #7. -Also on card #7, it’s a battle of the big men when Giant Baba battles Kurgan. Card #6 was a perfect night for Johnny V’s V. Foundation… In that they pitched a perfect zero in the win column. The New York loud mouth will not tolerate such failure and expects his South African giant to return to his winning ways at once. -In the main event of card #7, the extremely hot Magnum T.A. will challenge North American champion ”Classy” Freddie Blassie in a non-title match. A win here would earn Magnum a shot at the gold in the immediate future.

NAPWA Year 1 Card 7 04.29 from The Sportatorium, Dallas TX - Singles Match -Larry “The Axe” Hennig defeated ”Pretty Boy” Bobby Heenan via pinfall after connecting with "The Axe". Match Notes: Larry "The Axe" Hennig squared off in the opening match against the debuting "Pretty Boy" Bobby Heenan. The young man from Beverly Hills gave the one man Minnesota Wrecking Crew a tough fight, but the extremely angry Hennig made an example of the newcomer, sending a message to "King" Bobby Shane and The Hamilton Wrecking Crew by laying Hennan out with The Axe! - Singles Match -Squire David Taylor defeated ”The One” Billy Gunn via submission with a sleeperhold. Match Notes: Before the match referee John Stiltz laid down the law and sent Earl Robert of Eaton, "Handsome" Harley Race, and "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart to the back, insuring a 1-on-1 match-up. The cleared out ringside did not help out Billy Gunn, who found himself on the defense right away. "The One" battled back, and got a nearfall after hitting the standing leg-drop, but he could not put the Englishman away. Taylor battled back and got a win after locking Gunn into a classic sleeperhold. - Tag Team Match -Greg Valentine and One Man Gang (with “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart) vs. Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito (with “Luscious” Johnny V.) ended in a double disqualification. Match Notes: Should it come as a surprise to anyone that a match between a team managed by Jimmy Hart and a team managed by Johnny V. would end in a double disqualification? Fuji and Saito were having their way with Hart's makeshift duo, thought One Man Gang's power gave them fits. But after Fuji-san threw salt in One Man Gang's eyes, The Hammer came in and Saito jumped into the ring and a wild brawl ensued which caused the referee to toss the match out. - Singles Match -George “The Animal” Steele defeated Rhett Titus via submission with the Flying Hammerlock. Match Notes: Kenny King has had Hillybilly Jim's number in recent weeks, but his partner could not replicate that success against Jim's new partner. Three moves was all it took: a rake, a bite, and the flying hammerlock. Rex didn't even get his vest off. - Singles Match -Bryan Danielson defeated Eddie Gilbert via disqualification after a fireball. Match Notes: "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert and The American Dragon locked horns in match that people will be talking about for a long time. This was a great battle between two evenly matched opponents that was marred by the brutal actions of Eddie Gilbert at the end of the match. Frustrated after failing to secure a victory after connecting with the Hot Shot for the second time, a frustrated Gilbert went into his tights and produced the means to throw a blinding fire ball into Danielson's face! The referee, who had seen the whole thing, immediately disqualified Gilbert. While medical personnel tended to a writhing Danielson, Gilbert, who until now has always enjoyed considerable popular support, stood on the middle turnbuckle, drinking in the boos of the crowd. - Non-Title Match -Afa Jr. & Chris Candido (with Sunny) defeated NAPWA Tag Team Champions The Vachons via disqualification. Match Notes: Much has been made lately about how impressive the duo of Chris Candido and Afa Jr. has looked in their recent outings. It seems the Vachons came in looking to prove who the most impressive team in the NAPWA really is. Though Candido and Afa Jr got in a few good shots, the Vachons physically manhandled their opponents. Eventually, Mad Dog tossed Afa Jr. out of the ring and repeatedly rammed him head first into the guard rail at ringside. This caused the referee to disqualify the champions, but as Sunny quickly led her men away from the ring, they didn't look much like winners. - Singles Match -Kurrgan (with Johnny V.) defeated Giant Baba via pinfall with the "Paralyzer" claw hold. Match Notes: The two biggest men in the NAPWA met in match that closely resembled the collision of two semi-trucks. For a long time, neither man seemed to be able to gain the upper hand, but after a series of front suplexes, Johnny V.'s South African Giant got rolling and caught Baba climbing back into the ring with the Paralyzer claw hold for the surprise victory. - Non-Title Match -NAPWA North American Champion ”Classy” Freddie Blassie (with Jimmy Hart) defeated Magnum T.A. via pinfall after hitting the Southern Neckbrecker. Match Notes: Magnum TA has been hot lately, but that hot streak got cooled off in a major way when he stepped in the ring with the reigning North American champion. With the Mouth of the South at ring side yelling instructions through his megaphone, Blassie took the challenger apart with methodical brawling style. After busting Magnum open on the ring post, "The Vampire" finished him off with a picture perfect Southern Neckbreaker. After the match, Blassie continued to pound on Magnum, which brought Lou Thesz (dressed in a suit and tie as he had not been in action tonight) running out from the back to chase off the champion.

Thanks, neily. - It was great to be back at the Sportatorium for card #7. We’ll have some more home cooking at card #8, before the start of what promises to be a semi-annual west coast road trip with cards in California, Oregon, British Columbia, Alaska, and Hawaii. -Matches featuring Jimmy Hart’s Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and Johnny V.’s Mr. Saito have ended in double disqualifications the last two cards. At card #8, Valentine will face off against Saito’s partner Mr. Fuji, while Saito will take on One Man Gang. - The All Night Express will team up with the controversial ”Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert in six man action on card #8. Gilbert seemed heading for a certain suspension after he threw a fire ball in Bryan Danielson’s face, but Danielson was not seriously injured and requested that he be given the chance to get payback in the ring. Danielson will join forces for this match with Hillbilly Jim & George “The Animal” Steele- Chris Candido & Afa Jr. defeated the Tag Team Champions by disqualification at card #7, but in light of the whooping they took, you would think they wouldn’t be in any hurry to get back in the ring with The Vachons. You’d be wrong though, as Sunny has booked her men in one on one matches against the champs at card #8. The second generation Samoan savage will tangle with Butcher Vachon, while the New Jersey blond will take on Mad Dog. -Also on card #8, will be two big tag team matches. First, The Blue Bloods will face off against Kurgan and ”Hacksaw” Jim Duggan from the V. Foundation. The Blue Bloods are in the running for a shot at the tag team gold, while this will be the first pairing of Johnny V.’s South African giant and the Glen Falls tough guy. -And in the second big tag team match, the main event of card #8, Jimmy Hart’s Blond Bombers will face off against Giant Baba and Lou Thesz. Thesz has been officially named the #1 contender to NAPWA champion ”Classy” Freddie Blassie, and will get his shot at the gold at card #9 in Los Angeles. One can only assume that the Blond Bombers will be looking to soften Thesz up for their stable mate.

Nice fed and really liking how you are presenting it. Just a couple things. One, the devil, as they say, is in the details. The Hamilton Wrecking Crew's suspension went from 2 cards to 5 but did not see anything in the NAPWA Insider explaining why. Whats up with that. Inquiring minds want to know . Two seeing all the DQ's between Johnny V's boys and Harts boys how long before some kind of no DQ match? The fans mouths would be watering for it. Keep up the great work!!

I retroactively increased the Tolos brothers suspension so that they would return at the same time as Bobby Shane... And hoped no one would notice ;D As for the V. Foundation/First Family rivalry, watch for the next issue of the Insider for a big match announcement regarding this rivalry.

NAPWA Year 1 Card 8 05.05 from The Sportatorium, Dallas TX - Singles Match -Magnum TA defeated ”Pretty Boy” Bobby Heenan via submission with a scorpion deathlock. Match Notes: Magnum TA wasted no time getting back in the win column after his tough lose to the North American Champion last time out. He made short work of the man from Beverly Hills, getting a submission victory with a scorpion leglock. After the match, Magnum took to the house mic and announced that the NAPWA was heading west for six shows, but when we returned to Dallas for card 15, the first ever NAPWA Southern Champion would be crowned! Magnum then went on to say that he would be one of those fighting to win that title, and guaranteed that he would be the first Southern Champion! - Singles Match -Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) defeated Mr. Fuji (with Johnny V.) via disqualification. Match Notes: Another match between the V. Foundation and The First Family... and another disqualification. (yawn) This time, it was Mr. Fuji getting disqualified for hitting Greg "The Hammer" Valentine with a chair after Valentine pursued Fuji out of the ring. - Six Man Tag Team Match -”Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert and The All Night Express defeated ”American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, Hillbilly Jim, and George ”The Animal” Steele via pinfall. Match Notes: On the last card Eddie Gilbert stunned everyone and turned his back on the fans when he threw fire at the face of Bryan Danielson. Danielson got lucky and suffered only minor injuries, but the bandage on the American Dragon's face must have been like a big red bullseye for Gilbert and his partner's for the night, The All Night Express. Where as Danielson's partners, Hillbilly Jim and George "The Animal" Steele, weren't much of a factor in the match, ANX played a big part here, softening up Danielson before tagging in "Hot Stuff". What's more, when Danielson rallied and had Gilbert in trouble, Rex Titus distracted the referee and allowed King to come off the top rope with an elbow that turned things back around in Gilbert's favor. A few moments later, Gilbert hit Danielson with a running spear for the victory. - Singles Match -Mr. Saito (with Johnny V.) vs. One Man Gang (with Jimmy Hart) ended in a double count out. Match Notes: No one will ever confuse this for the classic between Harley Race and Earl Robert Eaton a few cards back, but it was a hell of a lot of fun in its own right. These two brutes tossed out the rule book and flat out brawled for almost twenty minutes. Eventually, the action spilled out of the ring, and both men were counted out. - Singles Match -Mad Dog Vachon defeated Chris Candido (with Sunny) via disqualification. Match Notes: On card #7, The Vachons took Sunny's team of Chris Candido and Afa Jr to the woodshed. So, it surprised many when Sunny requested singles matches for her men against the tag team champions, but the Vachons were happy to oblige. This match didn't go much different for Chris Candido, as Mad Dog Vachon dominated the New Jersey loud mouth. After getting a near fall with a piledriver, Mad Dog tossed Candido out of the ring, and followed him out looking to do more damage. But, before he could, Afa Jr. attacked out of no where! Sunny's men double teamed Mad Dog, and left him laying, before being chased off by Butcher Vachon. -Tag Team Match -The Blue Bloods defeated Kurgan and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (with Johnny V.) via pinfall after a British Suplex.. Match Notes: Johnny V.'s hodgepodge team of Kurgan and Duggan looked good for most of this match. Though the Blue Bloods had Kurgan in trouble early with hot tags and fast strikes, the South African giant tuned things around, and then he and Duggan flat out beat the tar out of Squire David Taylor, getting several near falls. But, once again, Taylor showed tremendous toughness, battling back and hitting a British Suplex on Duggan for the victory. - Singles Match -Afa Jr. (with Sunny) defeated Butcher Vachonvia pinfall after a leaping slash in the corner. Match Notes: Butcher was looking to get some payback for the two on one beat down Sunny's team gave to his brother earlier, while Afa Jr had to know that a victory here would all but guarantee him and Candido a shot at the tag team gold. This was a great, back and forth match up that could have gone either way, but in the end, the second generation Samoan savage connected with a big leaping splash in the corner and got the pinfall victory! - Tag Team Match -Lou Thesz and Giant Baba defeated The Blond Bombers (with Jimmy Hart) via pinfall after a neckbreaker drop. Match Notes: The number one contender to the North American championship, Lou Thesz, and his ally, Giant Baba, took care of the First Family duo in short order. Billy Gunn had Giant Baba in trouble briefly, connecting with the standing leg drop for a near fall, but the Japanese giant rallied and got the victory after hitting young Harley Race with the neck breaker drop. After the match, North American champion Freddie Blassie, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, and One Man Gang hit the ring, looking to lay a beating on Thesz, in advance of Blassie’s defense against Thesz in Los Angeles on card #9. However, Thesz and Baba were able to slip away leaving an angry Blassie and Hart in the ring.

- The NAPWA roles into California next, for the start of what promises to be a bi-annual west coast tour. Events in Los Angeles California and Fairbanks Alaska have already sold out, and we’re told tickets to the events in northern California, Oregon, British Columbia, and Hawaii are all selling like hot cakes. -For our L.A. debut, all the stops are being pulled out. The NAPWA tag team champions, The Vachons will make their first title defense, taking on the duo of Afa Jr. and Chris Candido. This feud has gotten hot fast, and we’ll see if Sunny can lead her men to gold. - The Blue Bloods are reportedly not happy about being passed over for a shot at the tag team gold. Earl Robert of Eaton will be in singles action in L.A., taking on a promising young talent by the name of Ken Doane in what is being described as a “Try out” match. -The fans and the NAPWA board of governors are tired of the constant disqualifications and count outs in matches between Johnny V.’s V Foundation and Jimmy Hart’s First Family. The board is determined to see this feud come to a conclusion during the west coast road trip, and as such have scheduled a series of specialty matches between the two factions. The first will be a “Hollywood Boulevard” Street Fight between The One Man Gang and ”Hacksaw” Jim Duggan! -Also on card #9, the new and extremely hot rivalry between ”Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert and ”American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will continue to burn as these two face off once again in L.A.! -It all leads up to the main event, North American champion ”Classy” Freddie Blassie makes his first title defense against Lou Thesz. The first time these two met, in the finals of the North American championship tournament, it was an instant classic, and this rematch promises to be even more intense as the bad blood between these gladiators has only gotten worse.

I think OMG, a fave of mine, vs Duggan will be a real pier one brawl. Looking forward to that. And nice to see NAPWA giving young guys a shot. Hope this Doane has the Spirit to make a good impression.
