Now that I am home in Las Vegas and now that Best in the World 2012 is over, I wanted to post a longer recap/review than just the brief comments I made last night on my IPad from the bar in the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank as I was waiting to catch my flight home to Las Vegas.
I am a major wrestling fan who uses his bonus check at work each semester on a wrestling related trip. I used my First Semester bonus check to make the trip to Chicago for Synergy (CHIKARA and ROH shows on the dame day) back in April and I used my Second Semester bonus check to make this trip yesterday.
I flew into Burbank on Friday night- but my flight was delayed by over 2 hours (at least Southwest up in the air always lets you drink for free- if you ask
- when their flights are delayed.) Toasterboy unfortunately recently got hurt last weekend and currently can not drive, so we scheduled a rental car- but due to my flight delay, for reasons beyond my control, I could not pick up the rental car that night.
So I took a cab to my hotel and the cab driver after picking me up at the airport actually yelled/lectured at me because he said I closed his door too hard (but somehow when I got to my hotel I ironically- but accidentally- slammed his door even harder.)
In the morning, after getting breakfast at Jack in the Box which was located in the same parking lot area as my hotel, I picked up the rental car- a 2012 Toyota. After insurance, the total bill was actually only a little less than $30.
I picked up Toasterboy from his home and we drove to the City of Industry. The signings took place at Frank and Sons which is where the first-ever PWG shows were held back in 2003 so I wore my PWG Kurt Russellmania shirt from Wrestle Reunion 4 back in 2010.
Frank and Sons continues to host wrestling shows and is hosting an upcoming AWS wrestling show on July 7th featuring AWS Heavyweight Champion Johnny Goodtime vs Scorpio Sky and MsChif vs Christina Von Eerie.
Frank and Sons is basically a large wherehouse with many collectible dealers with booths dedicated to sportscards and other sports memorabilia, movie memorabilia, comic books, action figures (including Star Wars, G.I. JOE, Marvel, DC, WWE, etc.) and many other things. I enjoyed walking among their booths while waiting for the next scheduled wrestler autographed signing.
Yesterday, I got these 4 copies of my LOW cards signed: 1) Buff Bagwell (who looks really good considering he was recently in intensive care following his recent car accident,) 2) George "the Animal" Steele (I really enjoyed meeting him, it was actually George Steele and not the NWO that caused me to make the trip yesterday,) 3) Nikolai Volkoff, 4) Bepo Mongol (signed by Volkoff.)
Yesterday, I also got my WWE Encyclopedia signed by : 1) Lex Luger (it was really nice to meet him,) 2) Wendi Richter (I told her that I enjoyed seeing her on RAW last week- she told me that she really liked my Kurt Russellmania shirt
,) 3) Kevin Nash.
Harley Race, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner, and Tito Santana were also there yesterday- but since I met them all before I didn't meet them again.
Malkamania (a
super wrestling fan who those of you who regularly listen to Colt Cabana's podcasts know about as he was a guest earlier this year on Cabana's episode 87 that featured Eddie Kingston) was there yesterday and he saw me and gave me a fist bump saying he (just like Wendi Richter) liked my Kurt Russellmania shirt.
If you have not seen Malkamania yet, here is a clip of him talking to Colt Cabana last year at Wrestle Reunion 5 in LA at the LAX Hilton:
also, here is a clip of Malkamania talking to Torrie Wilson last year at Wrestle Reunion 6:
also, here is a clip of Malkamania meeting Mike Tyson back in January at Wrestle Reunion 6 (I was actually standing just in front of Malkamania in line and I had just met Mike Tyson myself less than a minute before this clip takes place:)
Although Scott Hall somehow missed his flight twice in the same day (Kevin Nash apologized to the crowd saying he had personally promised to bring in Scott Hall who Nash said got to the airport and got to security but did not get on the plane- American Icon Autographs has a great record of having few no-shows for their signings but Scott Hall even no showed for them yesterday,) I had a great time. Afterward me and Grant went to dinner at this Hollywood BBQ place before I dropped him off at his condo and then returned the rental car so I could catch my flight home to Las Vegas.
What an awesome day!
