the new set is awesome...we'll the extended booklet is...I'll see the cards in a few weeks and then the whole thing will be FREAKING awesome!

Well, it really isn't up to Mark. But I agree the Glads are not all that great as faces right now. But I don't see why a Gladiator would fight in any other fed but the GWF. They consider themselves the best and to fight in any other fed but the GWF would be an insult. The best *wrestling* fed....in terms of MMA-style the POW could be the premiere company in the COTG universe. IMO the Gladiators would want their people to compete at the highest level possible in whatever sport they're competing in. If they box, they box against the best. If they wrestle, it's the GWF. But in MMA terms... I just think it makes more sense than you're allowing for. I was going to say the same thing. The POW is definitely the UFC to the GWF's WWE. There could even be a stipulation that Rage does not wrestle, he merely competes in MMA. I agree that the Aethrans want to be the best at anything and everything. MMA and Wrestling are two different sports the way that Brazilian jiu jitsu and judo are two different sports, or the way downhill skiing and cross- counrty skiing are different, or the NFL and Arena football are different. Each has the same basic :elements,but have different rules and strategy. |

And to think this thread started out asking for reviews of the new set... lol! I know right!?!? Either way the set is a great read and from what I gather the cards will be great as well. The aCe, cP... ummm.. .POW, and GWF all look great in their own respects and all are great federations to run! Thanks Osk, Mark, and Tom! KEEP THOSE DICE ROLLIN!!! |

Just got the set from COTG Online and am looking at the gallery. Swarm's new top finisher is the Go 2 Sleep? Nice!

I just got the cards on Friday…so here’s my take on the whole package (bearing in mind that I won’t get a chance to ‘play’ the cards for a little while (I’m still in 2121)
Handbook (****)
I like how the handbook has evolved over the past couple of years. The dialogue really helps flesh out the characters and storyline elements and is something I’ve always found useful in my own fed…mixing in a few backstage or ‘in ring’ segments to keep things a little more three dimensional. One thing I’d like to see is maybe a brief one page ‘summary’ of the goings on in the Galaxy…any political instability…how is the economy (I remember there being something about a recession in 2119…)…how are things on Andromeda…Aethra…Earth…anything interesting going on that might be motivating the wrestlers from those homeworlds? I just think something like that would really add to the ‘atmosphere’ of the game.
Cards (****)
Iron Hand (Art:**** , Story:***** , Overall:***** )
Great Art. Great story. Great Character. Great Commissioner. It just works. His introduction in the handbook was perfect, and he’s come in and shaken the GWF up like few have ever done. As for the stripping of Titles and putting them on ‘his’ guys…I’m usually not a big fan of doing that…but I’ll probably do something similar when the time comes in my fed…it just works! Plus, because I don’t do it, that’ll make it that much more of an impact. Very cool.
Swarm (Art:*****, Story:*** , Overall: ****)
Now I can finally get behind this guy. Amazing art. The AniMen are my favourite team (by far) and Swarm has always been an ‘outsider’ to me when it came to the team…but recently, I’ve tried to have him slowly earn back the respect and trust of his AniMen brothers…and this card will go a long way towards that. Now he ‘looks’ like an AniMan. Its great. The storyline is a nice twist, and adds some depth…but I probably won’t go that route…as I’ve never really used Swarm according to the handbook.
The Main Event (Art:*****, Story:***, Overall:****)
I really like this guy. The fed has been lacking a bit in the ‘glitz and glam’ department, and this guy looks like he’s just what the GWF needs. I kind of see him as the GWF’s answer to Avarice…meets Ric Flair/Randy Orton…and I like that he’s a loner who just wants to fight in high profile matches against top competition…for fame, money and glory…nothing wrong with that. I got BIG plans for him…so I’m hoping he is NOT Gatekeeper/Dead Ringer and is someone totally new.
Nitro (Art:****, Story:***, Overall:***)
At first, I thought the idea behind the card was kind of lame…but then after reading the stories from Galacticon, and reading the story in the handbook, and then finally getting the card in my hand, I’ve kind of warmed up to the guy. I’ve always liked the Titans…and Nitro has a cool look, and adds a new dynamic to the team that Reckless just wasn’t bringing. Solid addition…but the jury is still out if he’ll be a useful addition to the roster.
Patch (Art:****, Story:****, Overall:****)
I like Patch for much the same reason I liked Sly Drury right away, even though his card was only ‘average’ (as far as stats). He just looks like a tough dude…and from the sounds of it…he’s a bad dude too. The eye thing just takes it over the top. This guy is going to be a very welcome addition to my fed.
Sleeper Cell (Art:*****, Story:****, Overall: *****)
Great art…great story…great card dynamic. I’m really looking forward to bringing a Sleeper Cell into my GWF.
Deadliest (Art:****, Story: n/a, Overall:****)
I don’t have a women’s division, and I may never have one…but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the cards…and this one I like. I’ve got something ‘brewing’ with my women in 2121…and maybe introducing Deadliest a little early might actually get something going as far as regular appearances on my fight cards.
Gryt (Art:**, Story: **, Overall: ***)
Another guy who’s old art I preferred…I don’t really like the new look. I like the circus aspect, and the fact that he really looks like he’s working hard to be just like Tanck…but it’s a bit of a different direction from where I was taking the character…but who knows, it may work for me…which is why he still gets ***.
Tricks (Art:**, Story: ****, Overall: ***)
To be honest, I kind of liked the old art. I really like where the story is going, and I don’t mind at all that he’s ‘Jokeresque’…I think it works, and it’s a wonder why it hasn’t really been a lot…some of my favourite characters were ‘Jokers’ of some sort (Mad Jester, Comedy). I still think the card is a nice upgrade, and the art is still good…I just liked his old look better.
Tauran (Art: ****, Story: *****, Overall ****)
One of the more interesting sub-plots in the GWF is Tauran’s reverse aging…and this card does a nice job of giving him an update, a new (younger) look, and adding an element of the storyline (what’s happening to me?) into the art. I’ve always liked Tauran…he’s never really been able to break out cause he’s a little bland IMO…but this story can only help him.
Overall (****)
Everything since 2119 has been really top notch. I’ve enjoyed each set for different reasons, and this one is no different. I hesitate to call this set the ‘best set ever’, for a number of reasons…I still think 2121 was a really BIG deal…but its yet another solid addition to the GWF’s history…and really offers promoters great opportunities to really shake things up in their fed.

Wow......your lowest rated art was probably my two favoriets. I absolutely love Tricks new artwork and his card is really cool. He and Tauran had one of my best matches in ages in my IP title tourney.
