Last night on SD Sheamus def. Chris Jericho. Sheamus and Jericho put on a clinic in the ring and the crowd loved it. The match was close to 20 minutes and Sheamus connected with a Brogue Kick for the victory.
today, Chris Jericho apparently posted this on his Twitter account:
"Glad you enjoyed my match with @wwesheamus- I was very proud of it! It was one of my favorites I've had so far this year! #BestintheWorld."
Why would a heel ever say this. He lost the match.
It's bullshit like this why WWE sucks right now. They aren't even trying. All they care about is social media. How many "likes" can we get? meanwhile the actual product severely struggles. Doesn't matter how many people see your shit, if your shit sucks.

Just a question, would you rather it go back to the old days where wrestlers didnt break character inside/outside the ring? I understand what your saying, I don't mind wrestlers posting things like that on their tweeter accounts. I just want better writing these days, like how good the writing was in the original Four Horseman days.

this is something i don't get either. They're totally 'out' to the public that it's a show. How can you have it both ways. it would be cool if they did angles that spilled over into other media outside of RAW, where they are building feuds . On the other hand if you ever look at the WWE Facebook page you'll be amazed. The people on there talk like it's totally real. I mean they really do.

Here's my thoughts. This is more of a Jericho move rather than WWE wanting social media up. I'm guessing if someone like Damien Snow, Hunico, or Darren Young were to post something like that, they would be less likely to tolerate it.
Jericho knows there's not a whole lot that WWE can do about it, especially since he's one of the top heels on the roster. Even if they could, he would likely be content going back on tour with Fozzy.

Jericho used to be cool but he's turned into an attention whore egomaniac who probably posts on Twitter every 20 minutes. I can't stand him.
I for one would love to go back to the kayfabe era. As fans, we know too much now.
I've been slammed with work this summer and had to give up checking in with Pro Wrestling Torch every day, and I'm happier for it. It's been nice to be so out of touch with all the "rumors" and "shoot interviews". I even watch RAW in the background while doing other stuff (like I am right now).

It's possible to acknowledge a great match afterward in character ("Proud of my effort, hell of a match that didn't go my way") but I admit I have trouble envisioning how a heel could do that effectively.
Worse than this was right after Angle appeared in TNA--they had some video package hyping up an Angle/Joe match where Angle said, verbatim, "I guarantee you one thing: my match with Samoa Joe will be the Match of the Year."
I barely can believe I even have to explain this--and I know from the other posts here that I'm preaching to the choir--but A WRESTLER'S GOAL SHOULD NOT BE TO PUT ON AN AESTHETICALLY PLEASING WRESTLING MATCH. The goal is to beat up the opponent and win, preferably in Goldberg/Ryback fashion. Great matches generally should APPEAR like they're happening organically, no different than in a real sport. Has any football team ever strategized to win in overtime after 6 second-half lead changes?
This is where the term "self-conscious epic" that I've seen tossed around on other boards comes from. Main event type matches are all actively designed to be as epic and dramatic as possible. And that's perfectly fine--but the issue is a lot of these matches LOOK designed and rehearsed, and that's a Bad Thing.

i don't think it's just Jericho. I've seen wrestler interview's outside of WWE programming where they are totally giving away that it's a work, even talking about particular programs with wrestlers where it's a blood feud, but showing that it's not. it's become a grey area.

Looks like I was wrong, and in fact they are looking to turn Jericho face again. Now we know why Jericho broke back into his old character with Daniel Bryan a few weeks back.

I understand what your saying, I don't mind wrestlers posting things like that on their tweeter accounts. I just want better writing these days, like how good the writing was in the original Four Horseman days. To an extent, yes, I would like to see wrestlers remain in some semblance of character away from the ring. I don't mean something stupid and contrived like Alberto Del Rio attacking Sheamus at want of the B A Star appearances, but I think it would actually be better for the product if guys stayed somewhat true to their characters when tweeting, touting or whatever they will be doing in six months. Jericho cutting promos on fans via twitter would do a hell of a lot more for him and the show than praising Sheamus' performance and throwing in a #BestintheWorld.
