So as a kid I had the very first COTG complete set. Had those cards till they turned yellow lol. Problem was I had no one to play w/ Now as an grown man I'm thinking about buying either COTG or Legends. My Question is since I still have no one to play with (My step son is five and not quite ready lol) is the online versions better and does it have a very online active community (can you play other people. join feds etc?) Thanks

There's several places you can join feds. Online is a bit sporiadic but you can often find someone to play.

Actually most of us play solo and have long running feds, and only play against someone at conventions like GalactiCon. I think the best creativity in the game is when you are playing your own fed.
My 5 year old daughter likes playing, even though she doesnt understand everything going on. We usually play the Chikara game, because she is more familiar with those characters and the color is a big plus for kids vs. black and white.

Online does make the game more portable, as you can play anywhere you have internet.
I have both cards and online. I play online unless I am at a convention or someone actually agrees to play me at home. (My brother lives far away, but we play when we get together) I have played more games online then face to face ever. Plus you get to meet guys and talk wrestling.

Thanks As far as a spontaneous interactive element (ie. log in at any moment, have an easy time finding free people to play against) its not really a strength. That said, you shouldn't have a problem coordinating small meet ups. There are some other premiums built into COTGonline that make it unique from the cardstock version: Character progression (select cards will be upgraded/downgraded from set to set before official changes occur).
Access to out of print material that is no longer sold in cardstock form (ie. the limited print run Johnny Rocket's Launch Pad).
Lifetime PDF Print At Will: you can freely print PDF versions of the game booklets you digitally own at will/forever (time and wear & tear take their toll with the sole cardstock version of the booklets).
All the rosters are in color (most of the older cardstock sets are only sold in the original B/W form, and some seem to be going out of print/converted into PDF form, if sold at all)The LEGENDSonline version is a bit different. A large body of LOW content is currently cardstock exclusive, and the trade off premium (alternate versions of existing cardstock wrestlers) may not be seen as appealing. There is a demo version linked here that you can sign up for and test drive. Good luck!
