More great NWF action, Tim! I think the NWF needs to crack down on the heinous actions of Ivan Koloff and his evil Russian chains. It's going to be hard for Vachon & Valiant to stop the Kangaroos' assault on the tag titles.

Card #269 – 02/29/2008 The Palisades – McKeesport, PA
We’re back at The Palisades, and the last time the fans saw a title change was back in May 2003 when Nikolai Volkoff upset Bobo Brazil for the United States Title! The U.S. belt has since become the North American Title, and it will be defended here tonight! The Sheik looks to snuff out the challenge of the man who unified the U.S. and Americas titles to create the North American Title, Ted DiBiase! We’ll also see Oliver Humperdink’s crazed Samoans, Larry Hennig against the Heenan Family and much more! Let’s get to the action…
1. Danny Doring b S.D. Jones Decent opener as Doring wins with the Danaconda. He’s 3-1 in his “Year of Greatness” and claiming he’s championship caliber and Top 10 material.
2. Mad Dog Vachon b Larry Sharpe Mad Dog was on a rampage, and went through Sharpe like a warm knife through butter. The Pretty Boy tried to leave the ring at one point, but Vachon grabbed him and hauled him back in to continue the beating. Mercifully, Vachon ended it with a Piledriver.
3. Samoan Island Tribe b Riviera Playboys Oliver Humperdink said his Samoan team would start at the bottom and destroy every team in their path. Sherri Martel and the Playboys weren’t thrilled about being considered so close to the “bottom” after being one of the NWF’s top teams of 2007. This was a great one, with the Playboys dominating the first half of this lengthy bout. It was looking like a cakewalk until the bigger Samoans finally got Koko trapped in their corner and worked him over. Koko couldn’t make the tag and was brutalized the remainder of the match. It looked like Alofa had the pin with a power slam, but a bloody Koko somehow managed to kick out. That only prolonged the agony, as the bigger Samoan moments later used a Samoan Drop to scratch out a win. Definitely not the “easy” contest that Humperdink imagined.
4. Jimmy Valiant dq Al Costello This was a very good battle that saw the brawling Valiant against the self-proclaimed superior technical wrestler. Match saw manager Red Berry get involved to turn things around. Just when it looked like their cheating would pay off with a win, Red Bastien came to the ring and gave Valiant a little help. Costello got frustrated when his wrestling moves weren’t working and the rule breaking wasn’t working either. He finally gave Valiant a low blow right in front of referee Mark Curtis, who called for the bell.
5. Diamond Dallas Page dq Bobby Eaton You can see Page getting more and more frustrated with Jim Cornette – and that’s not a good thing. DDP was putting it to Eaton right away. Somehow, Bobby managed to grab DDP and toss him through the ropes to the floor. Eaton tried to distract ref Andy DePaul while Cornette used a racquet shot, but it didn’t work. DePaul saw Cornette blast DDP in the back and called for the bell.
6. Bob & Brad Armstrong dq Greg Valentine & Ivan Koloff It’s seems like there is a trend forming. Ivan Koloff has been using his Russian chain more and more often to inflict damage and injury to opponents. Furthermore, he’s not even trying to conceal its use from referees. Here, the Armstrongs were doing well until Bob got clobbered with the chain, which resulted in the DQ. Bullet Bob has been all over NWF officials regarding Koloff’s use of the chain, and is trying to have it removed from ringside before matches.
7. Red Bastien b Roy Heffernan The Redheads and Kangaroos have just been unloading on one another. There’s no holding back, and that was the case here. A good part of the match was wrestled without a referee. Official Bucky Palermo got too close to the action and was nailed with a top rope elbow from Heffernan when Bastien ducked at the last second. Heffernan looked like he was getting the better of the action, but Red came back to win with the Atomic Drop. 8. Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens dq Larry Hennig & Larry Zbyszko The last time these teams met there was a fluke countout that looked suspiciously intentional. This time the match lasted longer, but tempers flared and things broke down resulting in several near DQ’s by referee Paddy Grimes. Zbyszko had Stevens tied up in the ropes, and Grimes was literally trying to pry him off. Zbyszko grabbed Grimes and hurled him through the ropes for the DQ, and returned to pounding Stevens. All four men wound in the ring, and soon Harley Race and Curt Hennig joined the fray. It wound up in a standoff, with Larry Hennig seeming very uncomfortable being in the ring with his son on the opposing side.
9. North American Championship: The Sheik b Ted DiBiase Many had thought former NWF and North American champ DiBiase would be the man to finally take the belt from Sheik. Since his return to the area in 2007, DiBiase had rolled up an impressive 11-3 record with only one pinfall loss. Of course, normal logic doesn’t apply to The Sheik. This match saw DiBiase off balanced by Sheik’s awkward yet amazingly effective style. At one point, Sheik went for the Fireball, but DiBiase saw it coming and was only grazed. Still, it was Sheik’s relentless pounding attack on DiBiase’s lower back to soften him up for the Camel Clutch that made up most of the action. In the end, DiBiase fell victim to the torturous hold like many before him. By the time Sheik’s next title defense comes around, his reign will be at 336 days, tying him for 3rd all-time, behind only Nick Bockwinkel (504 days) and his own 343 day reign in 2006-2007.
Danny Doring was miserable when he was told that he didn’t make the Top 10 rankings for February. After a tantrum, he surmised he must be #11, and on the verge of breaking through – what an optimist! Speaking of miserable people, King Kong Bundy & Rick Rude have decided to leave the NWF for greener pastures. The duo complained they weren’t getting enough of a chance at the tag belts, despite their recent loss to champs Vachon & Valiant. Rude had also had NWF title shots at both Nick Bockwinkel and Steve Williams, but came up short each time.
The next stop on the NWF’s traveling roadshow will be Altoona, Pennsylvania! Here’s the current lineup for the Jaffa Mosque:
* Mad Dog Vachon will face one half of the Fabulous Kangaroos! Red Berry has given the tough task of fighting the Mad Dog to Roy Heffernan! The upcoming tag title match between the respective teams should be a showstopper!
* Sir Oliver Humperdink and his untamed Samoan duo of Samu & Alofa will challenge the Flying Redheads in their quest to run roughshod through the NWF’s tag-team division! This will be their toughest test to date, as the Redheads have been one of the elite teams in the area for some time!
* Ted DiBiase and Nick Bockwinkel will tangle once again in a battle of former NWF kingpins! DiBiase scored the win back in September 2007, but Bockwinkel is looking to get back in the title hunt as a single!
* Once again you’ll see Bullet Bob Armstrong facing Ivan Koloff, but this time – Koloff’s Russian chain will not be allowed at ringside! Armstrong’s complaints to NWF officials have finally been heard! Can Koloff defeat Armstrong in a fair match? We’ll see next week! * Jim Cornette’s Midnight Express put their undefeated streak on the line against DDP and his partner du jour Brad Armstrong! Page & Armstrong aren’t complete strangers to one another, as they teamed once in 2007. The Armstrongs have no love for Cornette, as Bullet Bob will attest, so this one could get wild!
* Your big main event will see Steve Williams defending the NWF Title against former 3-time champion Harley Race! The two have not had a conclusive finish in either of their prior meetings, but this will be a No DQ match with no one allowed at ringside! Someone will be leaving the Jaffa Mosque with the NWF belt, and this time there won’t be any doubt who the better man is!
It’s the return of NWF action to Altoona, PA next week!

Can't wait to see Bock-DiBiase and Williams-Race. Two main event caliber matches in one card- the fans in Altoona will certainly get their money's worth!

You can see Page getting more and more frustrated with Jim Cornette – and that’s not a good thing. Very nice! I'm liking Danny Doring's mini-push. A big win for the Samoans over the Playboys. Awesome stuff!

NWF RANKINGS As of February 29, 2008 NWF Champion: STEVE WILLIAMS (C) North American Champion: THE SHEIK (NA) 1. Harley Race (1) 2. Ivan Koloff (4) 3. Ray Stevens (8) 4. Ted DiBiase (3) 5. Nick Bockwinkel (6) 6. Curt Hennig ( - ) 7. Bob Armstrong (2) 8. Red Bastien (10) 9. Greg Valentine (7) 10. Jimmy Valiant (9) NWF Tag-Team Champions: MAD DOG VACHON & JIMMY VALIANT (C) 1. Fabulous Kangaroos (2) 2. Midnight Express ( - ) 3. Bob & Brad Armstrong (3) 4. Greg Valentine & Ivan Koloff ( - ) 5. Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens (1) NOTES: No changes to the champions, but the contenders got shaken up a bit. Curt Hennig makes a strong return to the singles list, and credits joining the Heenan Family for his turnaround. Of course, his father isn’t too thrilled about that. Ray Stevens makes a big jump and is undefeated so far in 2008. Bob Armstrong takes a tumble after not being able to win the North American belt from The Sheik. The top three duos on the tag-team chart are all undefeated in 2008. The Kangaroos have been awarded the next tag title shot, and have knocked arch rivals Red Bastien & Billy “Red” Lyons out of the Top 5. Jim Cornette’s second incarnation of the Midnight Express make their debut while Bockwinkel & Stevens are close to dropping off the list after winning only one of four contests so far in 2008.
