THE GAME

2128 (1st Half)
A few notes to get readers up to speed:

The fed is played competitively between myself (reno) & Josh Ramel (jcr48). We have played this way since August 7, 1989.

Our fed is divided into 5 divisions: GWF (started: 2089), CPC/POW (2106), ACE (2119), GWF Zone (2121), & GWF Originals (2128)

We are Awards-driven: each division has its own Wrestler (Tag Team, Six-Man, etc.) of the Year where appropriate, and that is what Josh & I are striving for. Awards are determined by longest title reign; a month reign is the standard for award consideration. We also have Awards for Rookie, Most Improved, Feud, & Match of the Year, that can be won from any division.

Keeping the title is of primary importance. Therefore, disqualifications & count-outs by the champion are treated like victories. There are limits to this: 3 consecutive disqualifications by a champion allows the challenger to immediately roll on the commissioner’s title match chart; a 4th consecutive disqualification results in an immediate strip of the title.

Years ago we set up our Awards Periods to coincide w/ the Promoter Newsletter that would arrive prior to each set (May/November). When Tom went back to once-a-year sets in 2119, we remained on this schedule, with a 1st and 2nd half for each year. Right now we are about half-way through the first half of 2128.

I decided to call this “The Game” because that’s what it always been called around here. When I was 13 my mom would ask, “when are you going by Josh to play the game?” Today my wife asks, “when are you going by Josh to play the game?” I can’t think of a better title for this. It also makes for a pretty cool post #100.

Fascinating. This truly looks interesting Reno.

I'm curious, for each fed/territory, are y'all pretty much only rolling/playing the title matches? I've done similar efforts in the past. It can work well, as it allows for a "highlights"-style playing experience where you're hitting the highlight matches (i.e., the biggest matches and title matches) of each fed. You can utilize a lot of playing cards this way.

I'll be watching, and would love to hear if I'm correct in my assumption of how y'all play.

You are exactly right Stu, we only have the Championship matches. We used to do ranking matches back when it was only the GWF, but it became obsolete even before the expansion era. We have some "gentlemen's rules" about not bringing a challenger 2 weeks in a row (unless the Champion was disqualified) & things like that to make sure we are rotating contenders, but we do that naturally after playing for this many years.

Thank you for the kind words sir, they are greatly appreciated! Our 13-year-old selves had some jacked-upped house rules for the first 2 years we played this, so when the color cards were introduced for the originals, we saw a great opportunity for a bunch of characters to get the proper run they didn't have 20 years ago.

In looking back over your results guys, really am digging this entire set-up (I know, I know...I'm a broken record...but hey, at least you have one fan! ;D ).

I like the mix of wrestlers y'all are using, and again, the titles serve well as the basis for all feuds, and are obviously the most important item the wrestlers are chasing.

You guys are obviously having fun with this, or you wouldn't have kept going for 20 some years now.

Glad to see the GWFZ is well-represented...did y'all have any wrestlers that you entered in the set (I'm sure I can check my handbook to find out, but hey, I'm lazy!)? The 'Z is a ton of fun to play, and gives you almost endless match-ups. Vain is a favorite of mine, and he's obviously done well for y'all too.

Thanks again for sharing this very entertaining fed. You've given me a lot to think about moving forward.

We try to always stick to the book (whichever book it may be), for reasons that should be pretty self-explanatory. We have added some unofficial (I'm sure that sounds funny in what is basically a bootleg division) female characters in the Zone, mainly to help flesh out a Women's tag we wanted to create.

VAIN is Josh's creation & seems to be an incredibly popular character across the board; I think he did a tremendous job on both VAIN & BUFFET (as well as THE SURGEON). Although, if you ever tell Josh I paid THE SURGEON a compliment I will deny it to my grave ;D. I created LEVIATHAN & VIRUS (although I wish I had had more time @ the time to write VIRUS' story, it didn't turn out the way I was hoping & is a bit of disappointment to me - storywise, not the card stats/art).
