and apparently the Lakers did not even have to trade Pau Gasol in this deal!
They just added the league's best center for only Andrew Bynum and a protected future first round pick!
Hopefully David Stern won't veto this trade like he vetoed last year's Chris Paul to the Lakers trade (but that was a trade involving the NBA -owned Hornets at the time.)

If he did, there would be definite howling about Stern having it in for the Lakers.
Should be a really good trade assuming approval.

So basically the NBA is a two team league again. Yawn.

Figured it was only a matter of time before the Lakers got Howard. They always get the best centers. He isn't signing a long term contract yet, but you gotta imagine he says for the huge paycheck, even if he will be second banana to Kobe.

it's not a two team league. Nash and Kobe are both getting up there in years, and Howard is coming off back surgery. The Thunder are darn good. Has to be done on the court. plus "world peace" is still in the starting lineup

OKC is obviously alot younger and have proven chemistry together. But I definitely like the Lakers' chances much better now. In addition to the Lakers, I think the Nuggets also improved their team in this trade. Same with the 76ers if they resign Bynum (who is from the area.) But who knows what the Magic were thinking? I know they had to trade Howard- but they had better offers earlier this summer from New Jersey and Houston. Since those 1st round picks are all protected, the Magic did not even get a lottery pick for the NBA's best center. And Orlando still made this deal.

Since those 1st round picks are all protected, the Magic did not even get a lottery pick for the NBA's best center. And Orlando still made this deal. Dwight "Big baby" Howard held Orlando hostage, that's what happened. He first demanded to be traded to the Nets, giving Orlando all the power, which ultimately worked against the Nets, and they were forced to move on. Then Howard refused to go to Houston. It was also rumored he refused to go the Clippers, and who knows who else. Point blank, Dwight Howard threw a giant adult baby fit and in the end, was rewarded for his crying. I'm not a big NBA fan, but a couple of years ago Howard was my favorite player. Now I have zero respect for him. I can't even imagine how I'd try to explain all this to a kid who was a Howard fan. "Well son, if you throw a big enough tantrum, you end up getting everything you want." Great lesson there Dwight. F Howard and F the Lakers. All they are is Miami part 2. Joke. It may not be a 2 team league yet (debatable) but it's damn close to being a 4 or 8 team league. Honestly, there are at least 12 teams the NBA could wipe off the mat today and no one would even notice. Orlando is one of them. And forget ever being excited about your team getting a big name player. He's just going to cry and whine until he's traded to NY or Boston or LA or Miami. NBA sucks big time. By far the shittiest of the big 4 sports. Basically unwatchable with shit like this going on.

I agree about Howard acting immature. If Howard did not want to be in Orlando then on the eve of last season's trade deadline he should not have waived his opt out option and this summer he could have gone to the Brooklyn Nets or any other team he wanted as a free agent. But instead he changed his mind and whined about it afterward when it was his own fault he was still with the Magic. But I don't blame Howard for Orlando not getting a better deal. Orlando had a much better deal with Brooklyn yet hesitated and Brooklyn instead had to resign Brook Lopez who was getting offer sheets from other teams instead of sending him to Orlando in a sign and trade and as a result Lopez now can't be traded until December. Howard did not have a no trade clause to Houston who was willing to acquire him without assurances he would sign an extension. But Orlando turned that deal down too and instead agreed to a worse deal yesterday. I feel sympathy about Orlando's situation, but it was the Magic's own mistake they did not accept the better offers. Howard acted like a diva but Orlando also mismanaged their situation and its their own fault they didn't get more as compensation as a result.
