"By the fruit the tree is to be known. An evil tree cannot bring forth good fruit."
-Abraham LincolnHonest Effort: The Trials of Lincoln
LEGENDSonline Series 1 Tour: Match 4CreativeHaving achieved a hard fought victory over Heenan Family charge King Kong Bundy, Abraham Lincoln secured a match of his choosing with the man who has endlessly insulted him since his debut, Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan. Fired up over being lashed by Heenan with his own suspenders, the Honest One looks to return the favor and hand his nemesis a taste of humiliation. Signed and sealed, these two will meet in a taped fist match, where the object is to knock out your opponent and then stuff him inside of a Weasel suit. With redemption in sight, can Lincoln deliver the goods?Abraham Lincoln vs Bobby Heenan 'Deneb Double Fist/Weasel Suit Match'
Play by PlayAbraham Lincoln stalks a visibly nervous Bobby Heenan, taking him to the mat early with an ankle pick and double chicken wing. A full nelson weakens The Brain, who barely reaches the ropes for a break. Lincoln climbs the turnbuckle and attempts a double ax handle, but Heenan drills him hard with a glove shot to the stomach. Heenan poppycocks with the crowd, but Abe recovers and busts him open hardway with a stiff right, left cross combo. Abe grabs the Weasel Suit from under the ring and places it by the corner turnbuckle for future use. The Man From the Log Cabin locks in an arm bar hold down as a bloody Heenan nearly passes out. Abe places the top part of the Weasel Suit (the face) over the head of The Brain. Unable to see, a blind walking Heenan tries to escape back to the locker room, but Lincoln nearly takes his head off with a discuss punch. Lincoln then slides both of Heenan's legs into the suit, but Bobby slows Abe's moment with an eye rake. Abe signals to the crowd for a THROAT LIFT SLAM...as Heenan lands unconscious with a sickening thud! Abe stuffs both of Heenan's arms into the Weasel Suit, and then goes to zip it up the middle...DIVING SAVE BY SUPERFLY JIMMY SNUKA! The ref immediately calls for the bell, as Bobby Heenan is disqualified!
Post match Snuka gets in some additional cheap shots on Lincoln, even hitting a high impact SUPERFLY LEAP on the Great Emancipator. A bloody and embarrassed Bobby Heenan is helped back to his feet by the ref, yet somehow finds the strength to slap a prone Lincoln across the face in a parting shot!Booking The Honest OneI love Bobby Heenan. Whether as a manger/commentator/bump taker/stooge/whatever, I've been fan of his work since the day the Heenan Family first hit the WWF. So even though his card is understandably on the weak side, this was a fun match to play out and worked out well for what it was. As expected going in, Abe controlled the action from start to finish. The old Weasel Suit gimmick was a natural, while the taped fist element played into this being more along the lines of a fight than a competitive outing. Being in a position where I want to use 'all the cards' during each tour, the introduction of a heel Jimmy Snuka SE seemed convenient. I could imagine a rule-breaking Superfly as part of Heenan's stable similar to the way he was a disciple of Albano in the early 80s (with The Brain taking advantage of the language barrier, stealing his payouts, mismanaging his interests, etc). The Chart: Deneb Double Fist Match: Credit Eric KonecneThere are so many quality fan made charts in the PDF Download Library, I decided to incorporate content and reviews into this project. For this match, I used a number generator from random.org. The selection was this oldie but goody, the Deneb Double Fist Match. It has a bit of a sci-fi element (the gloves contain electronics that have various impacts on the competing wrestlers) but with a little imagination, roll consequences can be carried forward while downplaying the original intent.
This is a 2d6 chart with ten possible outcomes, some consequences have multiple tiers, is triggered in cases where the regular charts would come into play, the finish has a double jeopardy component (roll twice for victory) combined with an automatic stoppage based on cage token accumulation. It compares favorably to the Brass Knuckles Match found in the LOW Ringside Companion, as it offers greater dimension. Players looking for a specialty match that gives off a fast paced, hard hitting brawl type vibe may want to check this one out. It flowed nicely, and played to the underlying intent of the program (an angry Abe looking to pound on the physically over-matched Bobby Heenan). Victory required a successful double jeopardy roll, so I easily improvised the Weasel Suit spots into the mix.
For those interested, the chart can be downloaded here:Deneb Double Fist MatchBobby Heenan: The ManThe role of Bobby Heenan was played by Raymond Louis Heenan. A long time fan, Bobby broke into the business in 1960, working as a gopher for local talent. His training was said to be self taught, he learned to promo and convey emotion through practicing into a mirror while shaving. Looking back, you can see traces of Ray Stevens influence on what Bobby did. By '65 he had developed a heel manager gimmick, one he would parlay into a lucrative career. Heenan began a very successful run in Verne Gagne's AWA promotion in '69, a run that would last until the better half of nearly 15 years. In '84 he was recruited to the WWF, working on air as a manager and color commentator, with backstage duties helping talent with promos. His tenure ended in late '93. Bobby's final extended period in the business came as a full time commentator with WCW, a run which lasted from '94 into late 2000.
Hailed for his promo skills, exemplary bump taking, and ability to generate money drawing heat, many consider Bobby Heenan to be among the greatest wrestling managers of all time. At his peak, I would be hard pressed to disagree. From a fan perspective, I loved his WWF managerial run, and enjoyed him just as much as a commentator alongside Gorilla Monsoon. He was amazing. His WCW run was forgettable, but if he made a living off it more power to him. Since his retirement he has battled issues with throat cancer, but is still known to make sporadic appearances from time to time.Bobby Heenan/The Sheik vs Dick The Bruiser/Bobo Brazil '74Promo From His Run In Georgia Circa '79The Birth Of The Weasel Suit Bobby Heenan vs Greg Gagne 'Weasel Suit Match' 8/17/80Paul Orndorff fires Bobby Heenan Circa '85Bobby Heenan/Ken Patera Debate '87Classic Prime Time Moments from Gorilla and Bobby HeenanGorilla Monsoon Fires Bobby Heenan on RAW Circa '93Bobby Heenan/Brian Pillman F-Bomb Incident '96Bobby Heenan says goodbye to Gorilla Monsoon 10/99Bobby "The Brain" Heenan WWE Hall Of Fame Speech 2004 Bobby Heenan: The CardHeight: 6'0 Weight: 245 lbs. Beverly Hills, CA The Brain clocks in at a Rahl Rating of -11 (-2). A pure enhancement level card. Bobby's attributes (at -11) are among the worst in Filsinger history. Offensively he's a laggard on all levels. His defense is respectable on Level 1 but then falls off a cliff. The lowly PIN 8 (5) combined with a lone COUNTER - 1 and down - 3 designation on Level 2 are tough to overcome. Heenan's two saving graces are his stellar Distractor Rating of 9 (which makes him a great asset outside the ring) and his proficiency at defensive tagging (an impressive 9 points). Yet when in the ring as a wrestler, he's a sure fire liability.Going ForwardIn his bid for redemption, Abraham Lincoln was a few zipper pulls away from fully wrapping Bobby Heenan up in a humiliating Weasel Suit. Out of nowhere, a heel Jimmy Snuka chose to ruin Abe's special moment. Now these two look to be on a collision course, as Abe's war with the Heenan Family enters a new chapter!

This is very intriguing...cool to see one of my specialty matches being used. I loved creating those sets of matches. Deneb also has a Dog Collar, Ladder and other matches using similar properties. I'm digging this Abe thing, it's like a "Best Of" DVD of sorts. I'll be reading.

One great chart of yours that I plan to put old Abe through down the road is the Venusian Cane Match...one of the best of its kind. In a nod to pop culture, Lincoln plans to get a bit extreme when 'vampire hunting' dark talents like Count Necros and Coven Black. I'm sure your chart will help up the violence quotient! "And I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder. I looked, and behold, it was Death, saying, "Come and see." And I saw...and Hell followed me!"-Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
