Honest Effort: The Trials of Lincoln
Creative
Last show, in an experience that gave fans of the Honest One a serious case of the heebie-jeebies, Abraham Lincoln did battle with Superfly Jimmy Snuka in a brutal Fijian Strap Match. When all was said and done, Abe came out on the short end of the stick. Left staring down the barrel of a daunting three on one disadvantage, Snuka, Bobby Heenan and King Kong Bundy were in position to prey on the vulnerable ex-President. Yet before the worst came to pass, the Road Warriors stormed the ring and cleared Bobby Heenan and his henchmen from ringside. Manager Paul Ellering later noted that the Legion of Doom had a 'score to settle' with the Heenan Family, and will be cashing in on an old contract stipulation that grants them a match of their choosing...
The stage is now set. Read how the Honest One fares as he ups the ante in his war with the Heenan Family, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Road Warriors, in a Chicago Street Fight!
LEGENDSonline Series 1 Tour: Match 6
Abraham Lincoln & The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs Heenan Family (Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Snuka & King Kong Bundy) 'Chicago Street Fight'
Play by Play
Wild action breaks out at the bell, as each man squares off with another from the opposing side. Snuka laces into Abe with a series of hard chops, Animal floors Bundy with a dropkick, and Hawk rocks The Brain with a high vertical suplex. Smelling blood early, Hawk slams a table over Heenan's head, busting The Weasel open hardway. Animal emerges from a quick search under the ring with a fire extinguisher, blasting all three members of the Heenan Family with ruthless aggression. With the action fast and furious, Abe picks up a trash can and levels Heenan with a stiff shot. Hawk locks Snuka in an over the shoulder backbreaker, but Bundy makes a lumbering save. The big man then locks Hawk in a backbreaker of his own, but Animal sends him down hard with a hard shot with the ring bell. Outside the ring, a bloody Heenan goes to whip Abe into the guard rail, but a high, wide and handsome Lincoln reverses, smashing The Brain into the cold hard steel ring steps. Snuka and Bundy go to work on Animal as KKB connects with a brutal running power slam, but Hawk quickly makes the save. The Road Warriors nearly decapitate Snuka with a double clothesline, and then signal for the DOOMSDAY DEVICE...1,2,SAVE BY BUNDY! Animal sends Bundy into the ropes, connecting with a stiff 2x4 shot to the midsection that double the big man over. Abe traps Heenan against the turnbuckle, drilling him with a series of hard shots with a microphone that reverberate throughout the arena. In clear command of the chaos before them, Hawk and Animal connect with a devastating spike piledriver on Heenan, leaving him as dead as a door nail (pin rating of 12). In a show of brute strength, Animal lifts Bundy onto his shoulders, as Hawk connects with the DOOMSDAY DEVICE...1,2,3!
Post match, the Heenan Family is left laying as Hawk and Animal celebrate. A confused Lincoln seems a bit in awe of what has just happened. Paul Ellering eases his discomfort, gently placing a pair of spike shoulder pads onto his frame, while Hawk and Animal hoist the Great Emancipator up high on their shoulders in victory celebration style. A most unique sight to behold for fans of the LEGENDSonline 1 territory!
Booking The Honest One
Wild match. Rolling a six man tag using LEGENDSonline worked out surprisingly well. The new game table can accommodate viewing of all six cards after a zoom out. With all the cards neatly close together, the tornado style rules were easy to implement, making for fast paced play. The temp-lock forced CSF Chart use early as both Road Warriors hit their designated finishers quickly. Heenan was totally slaughtered under these rules (accumulating a pin rating of 12 in very short order) while Snuka and Bundy didn't fare much better. Hawk and Animal have such a dominant offensive arsenal that when things click, its difficult for any opponent to turn the tide. The rules of this match seemed to further accentuate their strengths.
As for Abe, this was a relatively easy night for the Honest One. He rode the LOD's momentum and isolated an over-matched Heenan for most of the match. In real life, the idea of Abraham Lincoln standing side by side with the hulking spiked out Legion of Doom would be quite a sight. On this night, he lived a day in the life of Riley, one upping his rivals, and exiting the ring with barely a scratch!
Chicago Street Fight: The Chart
This is a two tier, 2d6 chart. Tier one has eleven possible weapon selections. Tier 2 has seven possible match content outcomes, all of which incorporate use of the weapon result in Tier 1. Tornado tag rules, no disqualifications or count outs, one fall to a finish. All pin attempts are rolled double jeopardy style (success requires two rolls). A temp-lock was in place on match ending designation until the chart came into play four times. Defensive tags trigger a partner interference attempt. The Road Warriors enjoyed an outright designated advantage on Tier 2 Slot 7.

Road Warriors: The Men
The Road Warriors were comprised of former Minneapolis bouncers turned wrestlers, Hawk (Michael Hegstrand) and Animal (Joseph Laurinatis). They trained under Eddie Sharkey. Their big break came in Georgia Championship Wrestling, where they were booked by Ole Anderson to destroy the local enhancement talent in quick stiff matches that were seen on national cable (Superstation TBS). Their size, look and style immediately set them apart, garnering a cult following. At an early stage, they became special attraction draws, finding bookings throughout the territory system, as well as overseas. Promoters the world over would attempt to replicate their drawing power by cloning similar gimmicks, none of which would attain the same level of success. From a fan perspective, I remember first reading about them in the Apter mags circa '83. Back then, photos and kayfabe stories were all the access I had to them, yet even at just that they were intriguing. When I did finally get to see them on television, they were packaged in short squash matches and music videos highlighting their strengths. The spikes, war paint, haircuts, use of Black Sabbath's Iron Man...in combination it was over huge with the fans.
From a technical standpoint, Hawk and Animal were never among the best of in ring performers, but in their own way, they were great workers. They lived their gimmick, perfected what worked for them, drew money across a myriad of promotions, and did so for a protracted period of time on a global basis. In the end, what else is there? Tragically, Hawk passed away from a heart attack in October '03 at age 46. He was an excellent promo man, with snappy lines and effective delivery. Animal and long-time manager Paul Ellering accepted induction of the Road Warriors into the WWE HOF in 2011. It would be very difficult to argue against them having a very firm place in history as one of the most successful tag teams of all time.

Road Warrior Animal: The Card
Height: 6'1
Weight: 285 lbs.
Chicago, IL
This card is an interesting mix. Animal's attributes reflect that he was the power man of the team, with a bit less agility and higher propensity for being disqualified. Defensively he's solid (13 points) and his tag proficiency is evident throughout. The way Animal's Level 3 Offense is structured maximizes his potential as a tag wrestler. Two finisher designations (one applicable in singles matches, one that is tag specific) provide him with a 33% chance of hitting a match ending scenario when wrestling as one half of the Road Warriors. An issue that isn't as cut and dry, is how this will effect him in singles matches. Players that use house rules where they simply re-roll on Level 3 Offense when a tag finisher is rolled, change the odds of him landing his singles finisher to a highly favorable one in five. On the flip side, players who choose to roll a level up (Level 2 Offense) in those situations will in effect impose a handicap (eliminating any chance of re-rolling an immediate finisher). Regardless, the fate of how Animal's L3O will be handled in singles matches is ultimately one of those 'It's Up To You Promoter' issues.
Road Warrior Hawk: The Card
Height: 6'3
Weight: 277 lbs.
Chicago, IL
Hawk is a high level card. Defensively, he's as tough as they come, netting 13 points. As would be expected, his tag proficiency is top rate, with potency on every level. He has very sharp attributes across the board, net an impressive 11 points. In contrast to Animal's card, Hawk's Level 3 Offense is structured with only one finisher designation (tag specific), along with a simple substitute potency during singles matches. This cleaner approach to L3O is a trade off, it doesn't give him the same juice Animal has in tag matches, but avoids the house rule conundrum discussed above.
Going Forward
After a triumphant victory in the Chicago Street Fight, and having gained a measure of revenge against heated rival Bobby Heenan, Abe Lincoln appears to be getting his swagger back. Never a man who is content to rest on his laurels, he now prepares to do battle with an all time great, a man who promises to push Lincoln's body, and challenge his mind, to the very limit!
