“How long ago is it? Eighty odd years since, upon the Fourth day of July, for the first time in the world, a union body of representatives was assembled to declare as a self-evident truth that all men were created equal. That was the birthday of the United States of America.”
-Abraham Lincoln (Independence Day Address July 1863)Honest Effort: The Trials of LincolnCreative***Improvised Build***For months on end, a violent blood feud has waged on in the arenas of Preplanus Pro Wrestling. Long time star/feared political heavy hitter Count Necros had brought in promising youngster Coven Black to take what is called The Seventh Step. The young vampire laid on a bed of nails, fasted for thirty days, and in the desert of Preplanus, pledged his mind, body and soul in service of the Church of Necros. After having been accepted into the role of the Count's protege, Coven was on a tear, 'rolling the bones' and building not only an impressive base of wins, but also a large following of female admirers that were drawn to his aura, and The Count's larger harem. Yet the verbal and physical abuse Necros and Black dished out on their 'concubines' appalled many onlookers who stood outside the misogynistic bubble embraced by Preplanus culture. Among the mistreated female worshipers is a woman known as Mistress, who purportedly left her fiance, a wrestler himself in another promotion, to join the Church of Necros. That man, HelSin, arrived on the scene with a vengeance, claiming that Black turned his wife to be against him by way of an occult trance. HelSin is on a mission to rescue Mistress, even if he must do so against her will. Standing by HelSin's side is a controversial female wrestler known as Scorn, a fellow vampire hunter who made tabloid headlines after 'killing' her fiance, a vampire, in what was ruled an act of self-defense. With run-ins and sneak attacks between these parties escalating out of control, Count Necros has issued a challenge to HelSin for a Fourth of July winner take all, loser leaves town final showdown, to which the Vampire Hunter accepted. The stakes could not be higher, if the Church of Necros has the last surviving member at the final bell, his entire team remains, and HelSin is banished from the territory forever, surrendering his quest to save his wife from Coven's influence. Should HelSin's Slayer Army win, Coven Black must leave Preplanus forever, and relinquish his control of Mistress.
Watch as a fearless Abraham Lincoln steps in to aid HelSin & Scorn's cause against The Church of Necros (Count Necros, Coven Black, Mistress, MsChif and ringside Zombie Queen Trisis) in this ultra violent Coffin & Crucifix Death Match. Serving as the commission appointed special referee is the Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre The Giant!Fourth of July Special Edition: Goth Subculture In Filsinger Games LEGENDSonline Series 1 Tour Retrospective[/b] Abraham Lincoln, HelSin & Scorn vs The Church of Necros (Count Necros, Coven Black, MsChif & Mistress w/ “Queen of the Damned” Trisis) featuring 'Special Referee' Andre The Giant (Inter-Gender Coffin & Crucifix Death Match)Play by PlayIt's a wild Fourth of July scene in Preplanus, Draco as mist and fog fill the air. A dark vibe can be felt as the cult like entrance of Count Necros, Coven Black and their bevy of female companions makes for an odd but compelling visual. Clearly representing the visiting team, Abe, HelSin and Scorn then enter the ring to a hostile audience. Eight coffins, two in each corner, line the outside of the squared circle, while cable secured crucifix stakes are placed against each of the four steel ring posts. Before the bell rings, Count Necros throws his staff of darkness to MsChif, who attacks Scorn from behind with a thunderous blow to the back of the neck, drawing heavy blood. Andre quickly grabs the staff from the Goth girl, but the damage is already done. We are underway. MsChif wastes no time, hitting the DESECRATOR on a motionless Scorn. On command, Count Necros quickly tags in and hits a Nail Eye Raker on the fallen female vampire huntress, as a ballistic HelSin, physically restrained by Andre, screams out in anger. The Count cracks an evil smile as he connects with a picture perfect dropkick that flaws the young lady. Necros signals...PHANTOM DUST...SCORN IS OUT COLD! THE COUNT ROLLS HER INTO AN EMPTY COFFIN...SCORN IS ELIMINATED!
Second Fall:
Abraham Lincoln & HelSin vs The Church of Necros (Count Necros, Coven Black, MsChif & Mistress w/ “Queen of the Damned” Trisis)
Abe & Helsin now face a four on two disadvantage, with Trisis an additional cause for concern on the outside. At the start of the next fall, Coven Black plays a cruel mind gaming with HelSin, passionately kissing Mistress as her ex-boyfriend is forced to watch on in a blind rage. Necros & Black further show their cowardice by insisting Mistress start the action for their team. A very reluctant Abraham Lincoln takes her down with a half nelson & crotch lift. Abe whips Mistress into the ropes, connecting with a back body drop. The Honest One screams at Necros & Black to tag in, but the two ignore his pleas. A Headlock Throw yields a save by MsChif. Lincoln tags out in frustration, as HelSin, tears in his eyes, passionately pleads with Mistress to come to her senses, but she goes for a kick to the groin, HelSin, heartbroken, immediately counters. Realizing this is the only possible way to save her in the long run, he hits his ex-girlfriend with a running spear that nearly takes Mistress out of her boots. HelSin drags Mistress to the top of the coffin, and then DDTs her on the lid, breaking her nose from the impact. With fire in his eyes, HelSin connects with STAKE TO THE HEART...causing Mistress' eyes to roll to the back of her head. Abe mercifully drags Mistress to the outside by her ankles, and then straps her arms and legs into a Crucifix on the steel post corner, which then ascends above the ring. MISTRESS IS ELIMINATED!
Third Fall:
Abraham Lincoln & HelSin vs Count Necros, Coven Black & MsChif w/ “Queen of the Damned” Trisis
At the start of the next fall, Lincoln & HelSin again scream for either Count Necros or Coven Black to step up, but it is MsChif who is in at the bell, slapping Lincoln hard across the face. MsChif goes for a headlock, but Abe powers out. A full nelson leaves the Goth Chick bedazzled. Abe hits a THROAT LIFT SLAM...and then rolls her toward a crucifix...but Necros breaks it up. HelSin tags in and locks on a crossface...which draws interference from the zombie queen Trisis, who rakes HelSin's eyes. In an amazing show of athleticism, MsChif hits the DESECRATOR on HelSin...putting him down. Finally Coven Black tags in...drilling his arch-rival down hard with a piledriver. Coven positions HelSin toward a coffin, but HelSin ducks a running charge, backdropping Black hard to the arena floor. Abe tags in and quickly connects with a bear hug and trip. A whip into the ropes sees Coven stun gun a charging Lincoln throat first against the ropes. Count Necros tags in...a dropkick puts Abe down to the canvas. A nail eye raker opens up a cut above Abe's right brow. Whip into the ropes...Abe hits a shoulder tackle. Tag to HelSin who connects with a slick rolling cutter. HelSin then follows up with a double jump moonsault...but Coven makes a save! The slayer signals, hitting Exorcism twice as a now crimson Necros goes into desperation mode. Trisis jumps up on the apron and attempts to slam a sheet of glass over HelSin's head, but instead decks Necros. HelSin rolls a bloody Count toward the coffin...DIVING SAVE BY MsChif! Amid the broken glass and chaos, the dictator somehow crawls to his corner and tags in Coven Black, who goes to work on HelSin with Bite of the Vampire, turning his enemy's neck into a deep gash. Coven hits DIAMOND EYES...AND ROLLS HELSIN TOWARD AN OPEN COFFIN...SAVE BY LINCOLN! MsChif jumps on Abe's back, as Trisis spits some strange green mist into the Honest Ones eyes, seemingly blinding him. Andre restores order among the carnage, with a fatigued HelSin and MsChif declared as legal. DESECRATOR on HelSin! Count Necros opens the coffin...and HelSin is rolled inside! HELSIN HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!
Fourth Fall:
Abraham Lincoln vs Count Necros, Coven Black & MsChif w/ “Queen of the Damned” Trisis
With both of his partners now eliminated, the Great Emancipator now faces a daunting 3 on 1 disadvantage, with zombie queen Trisis on the outside for good measure. Can Lincoln survive? Seeing Abe weakened from the earlier mist attack, Count Necros moves in for the kill. Shadow Boxing quickly plants Abe flat on his ass. A flying knee drop nets more damage. Tag to MsChif who hits Code Green with impact. She goes to throw Abe into the coffin, but Lincoln reverses and connects with a thunderous THROAT LIFT SLAM! With Andre physically preventing Necros and Black from interfering, Abe secures MsChif into a crucifix, as her body is lifted to the rafters. MsChif IS ELIMINATED!
Fifth Fall:
Abraham Lincoln vs Count Necros & Coven Black w/ “Queen of the Damned” Trisis
While his face still carries remnants of the green mist, all one can see in the eyes of Abraham Lincoln is fire & determination. Coven Black & Count Necros argue as to who is to start the next fall, neither man eager to leave the apron. Special ref Andre The Giant orders the team to designate a legal man at the bell, but Count Necros slaps him! Andre responds by grabbing The Count by the throat, head butting him, and then throwing him forcefully into the ring with Lincoln. Abe wastes no time with a waistlock takedown. A hammerlock sets up a LINCOLNCANRANNA! With a worn down Necros fading, Abe signals...THROAT LIFT SLAM! Abe rolls The Count toward a coffin...SAVE BY BLACK! Abe goes for a bear hug and trip...but Trisis again jumps onto the apron and enters the fray...Lincoln ducks..and this time she sprays red mist into the chest of Andre The Giant! Enraged, ATG evicts her from the match in his own special way. Andre puts her over his knee, spanks her center ring, and then drags her to a crucifix as she is lifted high above the arena!
RINGSIDE PRESENCE TRISIS HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!
The fall continues. Abe hits a THROAT LIFT SLAM...and then drags Count Necros toward an open coffin, but in desperation a bloody Count digs a spike deep into Abe's right thigh, thwarting his momentum! Andre quickly takes the spike away, but Abe is down in severe pain. Necros crawls to his corner and tags in a fresh Coven Black. The vampire man hits a piledriver and follows up with a deathjump attempt...but Abe somehow rolls out of the way. THROAT LIFT SLAM...COVEN IS ROLLED TOWARD AN OPEN COFFIN...SAVE BY COUNT NECROS! A beyond frustrated Andre throws Necros into the ropes, and then plants him down hard with a big boot to the face! Abe is bleeding heavily from the thigh, but continues to run on adrenaline. He signals again...THROAT LIFT SLAM...Abe rolls Black toward an empty coffin...and slams it shut! COVEN BLACK IS ELIMINATED!
Final Fall
Abraham Lincoln vs Count Necros
It is now down to these two men, winner take all! At the bell, the pain of the earlier thigh stabbing seems to have set in, as Lincoln collapses to one knee. Count Necros is also a bloody mess, but still has enough left to assume offense. An elbow drop connects. Shadow boxing then leaves Abe flat back. Nail Eye Raker...Abe with a mouse this time above his left eye, The Honest One is now for all intents and purposes blinded in both eyes. Count Necros rolls Abe half way into an open coffin...but Abe slams Necros' head into the lid, buying some time. Both men are bloody and exhausted. The Count connects with a perfect dropkick. Count goes to whip Abe into the ropes, but Lincoln's leg completely gives out, as he passes out from excessive blood loss. Count Necros moves in like a shark who smells blood...PHANTOM DUST...he then slowly rolls Abe toward an open coffin...and slams it shut! ABRAHAM LINCOLN HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!
COUNT NECROS IS THE SOLE SURVIVOR!
After the match, special referee Andre The Giant reluctantly raises the hand of Count Necros as he is announced as the winner. As ATG turns to leave the ring, The Count stops him, demanding he return the spike he took from him earlier. Andre ignores him, and Necros spits in his face! An enraged ATG rips off his referee shirt, body slams Count Necros down hard with authority, and then follows up with a devastating BIG SPLASH. He then carries a limp Necros to a crucifix, secures him in place and raises him high above the ring in humiliation!
FADE TO BLACK... Booking The Honest OneAn absolutely incredible match, magnitude 8.0 on the Richter Scale! I'm going to date myself, but this was a throwback to the days of Kevin Sullivan's devil worshiping Satanic cult that used to run roughshod over the Florida territory in the early 80s. Over the top scary characters like Abudadein, Maha Singh, Kharma, Purple Haze, Fallen Angel, The Lock, etc. The convenience of this Trials format allowed me to condense what would have normally been multiple shows worth of creative build, manufacture the underlying elements, and go straight to the pay-off. In my mind's eye, the visuals were compelling to think about. Spikes, mist, broken shards of glass, coffins, crucifixes, slayers, vampires, Goth chicks, a zombie queen, men fighting women, and on top of all that you had the larger than life Andre The Giant trying to navigate the action while these outlandish larger than life characters are trying to destroy each other. I viewed Count Necros (mentor) and Coven Black (protege) as cult-like leaders of their crew. Their strategy going in was that of survival, using their weak links (the females) to soften up their opponents in a war of attrition. Is feeding female wrestlers to men an act of cowardice? Probably, but I think it fit with their 'by the book' modus operandi. Facing a handicap going in, Lincoln and HelSin were quickly down 4 on 2. Then they were forced to have to go through the ladies. Mistress went down fast, MsChif held here own for a while, and even put in some major damage on HelSin, and Trisis used outside interference to play an effective role nearly up until the very end. This was a heroic losing effort for the Honest One. He stepped up his game when facing 3 on 1 odds, but the cumulative damage was just too much for him once he reached the final fall with the crafty Count Necros. Abe can at least take some consultation in knowing that Necros' moment of glory, ended in public humiliation, courtesy of Andre The Giant!Female Conversion ChartTo cut to the chase, this conversion amounts to a series of rules intended to adjust the stats of female wrestlers when competing against men. The gist of it is that the ladies have their Pin Rating and three of their attributes (Power, Out of the Ring and Cage) reduced by a static amount. Are these uniform handicaps sexist? Perhaps, but this approach provides players with an option that can make inter-gender matches unique from traditional game play. The idea of needing some form of official conversion became popular with-in Champions of the Galaxy fandom when long time female GWF superstar Amazonia formally entered the men's division in The End 2111. Years later, in perhaps a sign of changing times, GWF 2127 Black Death upgraded a female character named Strafe, renamed her Alpha Female, and branded her as 'the first female in GWF history to battle men directly', explicitly noting that players 'should not' use the Female Conversion Chart when Alpha Female fights males. While Susan B. Anthony may rejoice, from a player's perspective, this feels a bit odd to me. Your mileage my vary.
The Female Conversion Chart was originally available in the 2112 Ringside Companion, which unfortunately seems to be out of print. Those interested may want to check with Fed Headquarters to inquire about availability.Coffin & Crucifix Death Match: The Chart This is a 2d6 Chart with seven possible outcomes. No disqualification or count out. Chart use is triggered in substitute of the out of the ring or (lv) designations. Can accommodate outside interference attempts and tag match formats. For match ending situations, a double jeopardy rule is in place tied to Pin Ratings. The first roll reflects positioning near a Coffin or Crucifix, the second roll reflects successfully placing an opponent into one of the match ending gimmicks.
This chart was created to accommodate a Coffin Match (which I think makes for a fantastic visual) with-in the context of a tag match. The Crucifix (which is raised in the air with the victim's body trapped inside) was a substitute gimmick that I added in because I thought it made for an additional cool visual. Open coffins surround the four corners of the ring, while a crucifix is secured against each steel ring post on the outside. To win the match, an entire team must be eliminated in full through use of these horrifying fates. I left which specific gimmick would come into play at a given interval up to the player's discretion. Due to the fact that there are multiple people involved in the match, there is no 'cap' on when a gimmick can be used. I wanted fast pace/high impact outcomes, so Add 1/2 and even finishers were placed into the mix. If you're curious or just want to try something out of the loop, you can download the PDF below:
Coffin & Crucifix Death Match PDF Chart Goth Subculture In Filsinger GamesWhen I first came into contact with the world of Champions of the Galaxy, among the most intriguing characters I discovered in the GWF 2087 starter set was Killer Queen. Said to be a man with performance enhancing robotics parts in his legs, he wore make up and seemed to have feminine undertones. A flamboyant oddity, this male 'queen' was certainly unique. An argument can be made that he falls into the difficult to describe genre of goth.
While there are countless personal definitions, for the purpose of this little piece I will simply define 'goth' as an embrace of the unconventional with a macabre twist. Much like Boy George of Culture Club fame, Killer Queen had a shock value that placed him outside the norm of mid 80s mainstream American culture. In GWF War Games 2091, Count Necros brought the popular Goth mystique of vampirism into CotG. In GWF Revolution 2098 the Occult Overlord brought forth the a demonic faction (consisting of Mesmer, Bishop Hell, and Vlad Hammer) called the Brotherhood. Starting with the GWF Birthday Bash and the debut of Blazing Skull, the region of Brymstone, Betelguese would begin to take the dark aesthetic of goth characters to further reaches, eventually originating such stars as Anarchy, Cyclopes, Death’s Head, Erebus, Hunger, Korsus, Maleph, Mourn, Omen, Serpentine and Turge GWF Revelations 2115 marked the coming of the Cosmic Battle and 'Other Realms', included 4th Realm stars: Darkseed, Nightmare, Petarra, and feared 5th Realm star Godsend. Coinciding with the mainstream popularity of Twilight, mysterious vampire type character Coven Black emerged on the scene in GWF 2125. In fact, this whole Black Death Era series is another of those phases where the GWF really stretches the boundaries of the supernatural.
Outside the GWF, the entire aCe series is a must for those who are into rich sci-fi elements that involve angels, demons, spiritualism and great card mechanics. LOW players can also discover a little goth in the Harker Dirge LE Card and MsChif (Legends of the Future: Trios) Card found in the online store.
While so many Filsinger Games characters and storylines have come and gone over the last several decades, the quality of the content stands the test of time. If you are into goth elements, and haven't yet explored some of the referenced material, consider taking a leap. You may find some real gems are waiting for you, material that can fit your own personal definition of goth, inspire your imagination and enhance your enjoyment of this hobby. For the record, I'm typically very much a 'non-fiction' type of guy, but that wacky Inter-Gender Coffin & Crucifix Death Match was a hell of a lot of fun to roll out!Count Necros (2091): The CharacterDebuting in GWF War Games 2091 was this mysterious man from Preplanus, Draco. Standing 6'1 251 lbs he served as a dictator and claimed to be a vampire. An intimidating figure, he would often end his matches using the PHANTOM DUST, which entailed spitting dust into his opponents eyes!Count Necros: The CardHeight: 6'1 Weight: 251 lbs. Preplanus, Draco
At a Rahl Rating of 29 (31), the dictator from Preplanus is well grounded for action. A powerful offense nets 17 total points, including a handicap free L10 and a respectable static potency finisher on L30. Defensively the Count nets 11 total points between L1D & L2D, finishing on the light end with a PIN 6 (3). With a promising card at the start, Necros proceeds to come up short at the close, netting only 1 point on his attributes, and bringing forth very limited tag proficiency. A cult favorite to be sure, but he may need a bit of help from the dice when facing upper tier competition.Coven Black (2125): The CharacterDebuting in GWF Legends 2125 was this alleged vampire from Draco. Standing 6'2 230 lbs he exudes a dark magnetic charisma that attracts women to his side. In addition to sharing the same Bite of the Vampire signature move as forerunner Draconian vampire Count Necros, he will often finish his matches with the DIAMOND EYES, a snap double underhook DDT. Coven Black (2125): The Card Height: 6' 2 Weight: 237 lbs. Draco At a Rahl Rating of 33 (34) (GWF 2125 version) this agility blessed man from Draco brings forth a great deal of promise. A mixed bag of offensive highs and lows finds him with a stellar L2O that nets 8 points, before sinking downward from a L3O that carries two 'move - 2' designations. Defensively a total of four 'down - 3' listings should serve as a handicap, but he is cushioned with an elite PIN 4 (1). Attributes net 7 points, included an impressive Agility -4, while a lack of tag proficiency indicates Coven is best equipped to fly solo. An impressive rookie card with hints of room to grow.Helsin (2126): The CharacterDebuting in GWF Council of War 2126 is a mysterious vampire hunter from Belos of the Draco system. Standing 6'2 245 lbs, HelSin is obsessed with rescuing his former fiancee, now known as Mistress, from the dark influence of Coven Black. HelSin often finishes his matches with STAKE TO THE HEART, a flying double foot stomp to the chest.Helsin (2126): The Card Height: 6'2 Weight: 245 lbs. Draco
At a Rahl Rating of 29 (30) this rookie from Draco makes an impressive debut. His offense nets a solid 15 points, with a handicap free L10, and a daunting L30 that includes a move - 3 add 1 listing and a powerful +3 static potency finisher. His defense includes four total counters, but is dragged down by the dreaded L2D 'down - 3'. Attributes are on the low end, and tag proficiency is nowhere to be found. There's a hint of upside for this youngster, whose full potential may be realized in time.Mistress of Darkness (2126): The CardDebuting in GWF Council of War 2126 is a woman said to be under the trance of Coven Black. Once the bride to be of HelSin, she now answers to the beck and call of the GWF's resident vampire. Standing 5'10 135 lbs her skills increase when Coven Black is present at ringside. Her finisher is the fill in the blank style COMPANION CONTROL, which in storyline is any move at a particular moment that is instructed to her by Coven Black (ie. it is left to the player's imagination).Mistress of Darkness: The Card Height: 5'10 Weight: 135 lbs. Draco At a Rahl Rating of 27 (29), this female superstar from Draco debuts with a respectable base. Offensively, her skills are pedestrian, that is up until reaching L30, where she has dual zero potency finishers. However, in order for her finisher to work, she requires Coven Black to be at ringside. Without him, she has no finisher! Defensively she has only two 'down - 3' designations, but is hampered by a lowly PIN 7 (4). Agility rich attributes are a plus, but she is curiously labeled as a tag specialist, yet only sports two defensive tag designations. MsChif: The WomanDebuting in LEGENDSonline Series 6 (and the cardstock Legends of the Future: Trios) is real world Indy star MsChif. Standing 5'7 135 lbs from The Inferno, she is known for her goth style flamboyance. In addition to her wrestling career, she is a genetics scientist who works at a microbiology laboratory. Well versed in the art of submissions, she has a dance and gymnastics background, combining them into a dynamic package. MsChif will often finish her matches with the DESECRATOR, a modified DDT.Top 10 Moves of MsChifMsChif PromoMsChif Microbiologist ProfileArticle: "MsChif, Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers"MsChif: The Card Height: 5'7'' Weight: 135 lbs. The Inferno
At a Rahl Rating of 26 (29) this Goth chick from The Inferno brings forth some interesting firepower. Her Offense nets 15 total points, including a solid L10 and a static potency finisher. Defensively she makes up for a weak L2D with a wildcard L3D move, that at best can lead to a counter, but at worst can result in a DQ. Attributes score on the low end, while tag proficiency is not much her style. She could make for a spoiler!Scorn (2126): The CharacterDebuting in GWF Council of War 2126 is a female vampire huntress from Luyten's Star. Having once fallen victim to a vampire attack, she was since rescued and had the process successfully reversed. In morally questionable act, Scorn is said to have killed her vampire fiance with a stake to the heart. Standing 6'1 165 lbs she has joined HelSin in his quest to take down Coven Black and free Mistress from his trance. In action she will often use BURNING SCORN, an airplane spin into a Burning Hammer!Scorn: The CardHeight: 6'1 Weight: 165 lbs. Luyten's Star
At a Rahl Rating of 36 (36) the woman known as Scorn charts in with a strong debut. From top to bottom, her offense is handicap free, netting 18 points. An L2D 'down - 3' designation brings her back down to earth, but an elite PIN 5 (2) makes for a nice recovery. This lady from Luyten's Star finishes with attributes that net 9 points, but has not one single iota of tag proficiency. On paper, a potential force on the diva's singles sceneTrisis: The Card (aCe 2119)This is a non-wrestling outside interference chart from aCe 2119: A Dimension Divided. 2d6 with seven possible outcomes. Long story short, Trisis is a tragic character. Initially a happy go lucky Dixie Carter type, this non-wrestler burst upon the scene with a smile in GWF The End 2110. Over the years she would work as a goodwill ambassador, interviewer to the stars, and popular face valet/manager. She eventually went on to marry a wrestler (Corporal Aegis) but things would turn for the worse. At this point in her career, she had contracted a plague, which robbed her of her beauty, her mind and her relationship with her husband. The Trisis seen here was basically a drone, easily manipulated, who made for a purposeful vegetable. Andre The Giant: Special Referee Height: 7'5 Weight: 450 lbs. Grenoble, France
The Eighth Wonder of the World is one of those cards every player, of any Filsinger Games brand, should consider adding to their arsenal. In this instance, Andre played to the periphery (special ref) so I won't breakdown his card stats, but just his mere presence added something of note. The Andre The Giant Limited Edition card is available for purchase here. LEGENDSonline Series 1 Tour RetrospectiveTime flies when you're having fun. Even after playing all these years, this project is a reminder of how easy it is to get lost in the experience of this great hobby. Tom truly created something special for all of us who were lucky enough to have stumbled upon this great game. With some time now having passed after playing out these matches, here's a look back on Abe's tour of LEGENDSonline Series 1:
Match 1: vs Boris Zhukov
In his debut with midcard heel Boris Zhukov, shades of the old USA vs USSR nationalistic rivalry hung in the background. Abe stepped up and had his hand raised high at the end. Yet at the bell, Zhukov's running buddy and fellow Bolshevik, Nikolai Volkoff, ran in from the outside. Abe got lucky because a guardian angel, none other than S.D., Special Delivery Jones himself, made the save. Why S.D.? I wanted Abe to earn rank if booked in future tag matches later in the tour, and S.D. fit the bill as an understated but passable partner.
Match 2: w/ S.D. Jones vs Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov
The Salt n Pepper unit of Lincoln & Jones find a way to overcome the more experienced men from Russia. I could see this one booked toward the open of a card on a mainstream Fed...but if they were working a small city Indy card at a local high school gym, they may have found their way in as headliners.
Match 3: vs King Kong Bundy w/ Bobby Heenan
This was a big test for The Honest One. Abe's first encounter with The Brain was hate at first sight. Scoring an upset win on Bundy turned Heenan's mindset from viewing Abe as an object of ridicule, to an object of scorn. A feud was born.
Match 4: vs Bobby Heenan (Deneb Double Fist/Weasel Suit Match/Review)
When trying to 'make a star', you need carpenters who build from underneath and spark the illusion. Here I gave Abe a chance to ascend to the next level, and as luck would have it, the dice played their part, albeit in a win by DQ. Abe took a giant step forward into the unknown, but with a target now squarely on his back!
Match 5: vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka 'Alternate Heel Version' (w/Bobby Heenan) 'Fijian Strap Match' w/ Downloadable PDF
Abe was riding momentum, looking to take out the Superfly in his own specialty match. In the end, he came up short in a valiant effort, leaving an impression of his own.
Match 6: w/ The Road Warriors (w/ Paul Ellering) vs Heenan Family (Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Snuka & King Kong Bundy) 'Chicago Street Fight' w/ Downloadable PDF
Abe's war with the Heenan Family was at its peak, and this time supportive booking gave him the ammunition he needed to fight fire with fire. The Road Warriors were the perfect partners in this type of match, as Abe took home the spoils!
Match 7: vs Rikidozan (2 out of 3 Falls)
Here Abe traveled to the Far East to do battle with the Father of Puroresu. In the end, he lost like a gentleman.
Match 8: w/ Mildred Burke vs Paul Ellering & Ida Mae Martinez (2 out of 3 Falls, includes Nightmare Matrix & Gutarr Stick/Chart Reviews)
Total bedlam. Mildred Burke proves why she is widely considered head and shoulders above the rest of the ladies, as Abe shares in the winner's purse.
Match 9: vs Killer Kowalski (Titan Death Match: Wilder Version/Chart Review)
The Killer silences The Honest One!
Match 10: w/ Magnum T.A. vs Al Snow & Konnan (Tag Team Elimination/Tirion Triple Threat Match/ Chart Review)
A complex encounter that saw Abe come close, but wither away in a war of attrition.
Match 11: vs George Hackenschmidt (Coliseum Death Match/Chart Review)
The Russian Lion takes it to the Great Emancipator.
Match 12: vs The Destroyer (Hunter's Prey Match/Chart Review)
Abe was out of his element but leading for most of the way. At the close, Beyer's experience made the difference.
Match 13: vs Tiger Mask
Abraham Lincoln takes the win with authority.
Match 14: vs Harley Race (Lumberjack Match)
In the farewell match of his tour in LEGENDSonline Series 1, Abe closes out his war with the Heenan Family against The Brain's ace, Harley Race. The methodical legend was heavily favored going in, but in storybook like fashion, Lincoln overcame the odds and walked away a hero. This one would find prime positioning on Lincoln's future Best Of...DVD
In summation, Abe competed in 14 matches, amassing 4 singles wins, 3 tag wins, 1 singles win via disqualification, and 6 singles loses. Not too shabby against such high level competition. Going ForwardIn closing, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who read along on this little adventure, especially those who were kind enough to place a comment. Honest Effort: The Trials of Lincoln will return for its second season in August. This thread will be moved into the GWF Fed forum as Abraham's next tour will see him take on the iconic stars of GWF 2087. It's been 26 years since I played Tom's very first release, and its a testament to the quality of what he produced that it still holds my interest to this day. Until then, good bye, God bless and God willing, the creek won’t rise!Well, I'm not the kind to live in the past The years run too short and the days too fast The things you lean on Are the things that don't last Well, it's just now and then My line gets cast into these Time passages There's something back here that you left behind Oh, time passages Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight-Al Stewart 'Time Passages'
