Should the Washington Nationals have shut down Stephen Strasburg today for the season?

i say yes. if you aren't going to use him in the playoffs, and you really feel it's Iffy...just shut him down now

I can understand the reasoning for shutting him down, but I think it is a good question for discussion.

It is hard to say yes. However, I had Tommy John surgery in the late 90s and I know how your body can trick you into thinking it has recovered. This young man should rest this post season and come back hungrier than ever.

Stephen Strasburg arguably isn't even the best pitcher on his own team. I've been saying this to everyone in the DC area that Jordan Zimmerman and Gio Gonzales are just as good as Strasburg, and Edwin Jackson and Ross Detwiler are still pretty solid.. They would still have the best playoff rotation in the majors with or without Strasburg. Rizzo is smart to save Strasburg as a long term star and not burn him out like Mark Prior.
