Outstanding. I love the way the movie focused in on the passage of the amendment. Making the scope too broad (such as covering Lincoln's entire presidency) would have provided a superficial view of the times, not to mention a 9-hour movie. I'm very pleased with how this one turned out. Daniel Day-Lewis should be in Oscar conversations for sure.

Matt, if you liked the movie, you may also enjoy Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The author's work provides the basis of this film.

Happy to hear two good reviews. I will have to find a good time to catch this. Team of Rivals has been on my "to read" list for a few years now. I will probably get through it on audiobook whenever I finish my current audiobook, 1491.
