I had mixed feelings about the new Tricks card (mostly the art) at first, but after seeing The Dark Knight and realizing the influence Heath Ledger's Joker character is having on pop-culture, I've gotta say it was a very cool move by Tom to upgrade Tricks in this fashion.
I've seen a little bit here and there in the Fed Forum, but are you guys having some extra fun with the character of Tricks after seeing the brilliant Joker performance from The Dark Knight?
My GWF fed isn't up to date, but I know I'd be having a blast writing Tricks with the same chaotic mentality of the 'new' Joker...

I haven't seen the movie, but I am definitely having fun with Tricks and making him more twisted and evil (mind you, I have read some of the darker Joker stuff, so there is still soem influence)

I too wasn’t a fan of the new Tricks art (nothing to do with The Joker nod...I just preferred the old art) but I like the upgrade, which should allow Tricks to sort of stand on his own a little bit more (as a stronger singles wrestler). I'm sure the TDK influence will come out in some way as his character develops...cause he was just too cool in that movie!
As far as having more fun with the character because of the Joker link…I was sort of taking him in that direction anyway…as a cross between a warped kids clown a la Doink who plays to the crowd, and The Joker…so its hard to say…but I’ve always been a fan of the ‘jester/clown’ characters (Mad Jester, Comedy, Tricks) so he’s got a bright future for me…we’ll see when I get there (still in 2121)
As for Troy…dude…I can’t understand how you can look at your avatar and say that the new art is better than that picture…the new picture makes Tricks kind of look like a bum, with the stubble and the ‘tattered’ jacket…plus it looks like he’s put on a few pounds…he just looks more ‘disheveled’…which kind of works with the whole psycho/Joker thing…but I liked him as the slightly skinny, cruiserweight style wrestler with the wicked grin…but that’s just me…

Talk about stealing ideas straight from the source . . . .
Since I have one commissioner too many in my stack of cards (Prodigy has waited patiently for either Massif or Prell to move on, and since Ironhand replaced Massif . . . .), I came up with a storyline in which my newly formed ROGUES GALLERY has stated that NUPW Commissioner Prell will be assassinated in the ring. Tricks has identified himself as the leader of the group, but he's mum on who his accomplices are. The "Psychotically Cerebral Clown" has most recently been seen in the company of Painmaster and Jack Hood, but it's uncertain if they or other NUPW stars are part of the plot.
Of course, he and his men are willing to let Prell live if the commissioner will help him answer the nagging question; is there really an Animan under that Swarm mask?

Just five weeks into the year I haven't really had a chance to play with Tricks' character too much. I'm just getting into using him more now as he's about to get involved in a bigger way. He's getting crazier and more dangerous, but I'm not writing him too drastically different than what I've always done with him.

I still don't know how I feel about such a direct copy of Heath Ledger's Joker....but I have enjoyed the character more now than before. He just wasn't very good or compelling in the past, but now he's got that "dangerous" edge.
As such, I've had him menacing people more and playing up the intelligent psycho persona.
So yeah, character is cool now, but still mixed on when there are such obvious copies of comic/other entertainment characters.

mind you guys that tom wrote the character and had the art done before he even saw the movie in theaters. Most of the influence came from just seeingmovie posters and things before the movie released

I don't know about that. The movie's been in the works for awhile, and I'm guessing Tricks was drawn earlier this year. There were certainly movie clips and pics long since out then.

This is what I am doing with Tricks: Rampage #80It has been said on the other board that there are laugh out loud moments from Tricks there. I don't care for him as the deranged psychopath, more a fearless lunatic. Sorry for the plug but believe me, it is worth not spoiling the laugh out loud moments.
